Desired results tonight:

- MTL regulation loss to DET

- OTT win vs. BOS:
OTT win + MTL reg. loss = OTT moves 3 pts ahead.

*If MTL loses in regulation, they will finish Bottom-5*
*But if MTL wins, OTT only needs 1 point to mathematically be out of reach*
*If MTL loses in OT/SO, then it won't matter what OTT does. They will be tied at 76 pts, but OTT hold the tie-breaker with more RW's, but what ARI does tomorrow will be determine if MTL would finish Bottom-5 or Bottom-6*

Don’t think Boston will try to manipulate their standing but I’d imagine they’d prefer to play the Leafs than the Lightning. But it’s likely more important to guarantee home ice in round 2.

It will be curious to see if they plan to rest some guys. Although they'd probably prefer having home ice advantage, they still might prefer not risking injury.

I'm sure MTL will make the playoff before Ottawa draw in.

I believe next year MTL are going to be fighting for a playoff spot and might steal a spot.

One ore time: GO WINGS GO!
I mean there’s no way the Habs (healthy) are worse than the Caps, Flyers, Red Wings. Even the Isles for that matter. They are all so painfully average.

A regulation loss tonight = #5 lottery position
An OT Loss = #6 lottery position
A win = #7 lottery position

The last two results are dependent on the Sens and Yotes results.

Everyone wants the results of suffering without actually undergoing any suffering. Tanks suck but they are necessary. I can't believe 3 years into a rebuild with a 1st OV pick blossoming, some fans still cannot comprehend this.
I think the disconnect is in thinking that the tank is ruined because we might end up drafting 7th instead of 5th this year or 5th instead of 4th last year. No matter what happens tonight we are getting a top pick and great players will be available to us.

Like there's the suffering of going through a losing season and there's suffering because Gallagher scored two goals in a game we lost.

Last year was disappointing because of all the centres available just out of our reach and the Michkov drama that led to us skipping on him. A year after the fact, Reinbacher looks like a really solid addition. The only way I think I’ll be disappointed at this draft is if we do fall out of 5th and that spot wins the lottery to get into the top 2. But then again, that could happen at any place we pick. It can be a be careful what you wish for scenario.

We are playing with out any pressure. It would be completely different when we fight for a playoff spot.
I guess we will find out. But I’d argue we have the best 1st line of the teams I mentioned (though the Larkin line is really good) and the better goaltending save for the Islanders.

I actually predicted us to be around 10th this year but that was before Dach went down.

If 7th is worst case scenario, that’s a good position to be in. Still hoping for 5th and a lottery win. :)

I'll always remember when the Houston Texans last year won a "meaningless" game against the Indianapolis Colts on the last game of the season, the Houston Texans went on a 14 play, 83 yard final drive and scored.

Everyone laughed because that win pushed them out of the 1st pick in the draft, which the Carolina Panthers eventually traded up to, in order to draft Bryce Young 1st overall.

The Houston Texans ended up picking 2nd and drafted CJ Stroud.

Bryce Young struggled as a 1st year started on a very bad team.

CJ Stroud won Offensive Rookie of the Year, garnered MVP votes and led his team to the playoffs and they're now one of the most exciting teams in the NFL that pundits are starting to pick as a favorite in the AFC.

There's a lesson to be learned in here...

As a Jets supporter I would completely disagree with that take!!!
With meaningless wins in week 15 and week 16 in 2020/2021 after a putrid season (one of the worst in history) they manged to overtake the Jaguars in the standing and got 2nd overall.

The Jets missed on Trevor Lawrence and got freaking Zach Wilson instead!!

This haunt me still to this day.

Well that's kind of my point lol, you just really don't know how that is going to play out.

Maybe the Jets should have picked Parsons or Chase or Sewell at #2 instead.

You don't always control where you pick, but you have some form of control about how and who you scout.

This is why i'm never really concerned about if we pick 5, 6 or 7, obviously, I'd love to pick 5th or 1st, but if not, the goal is to draft the right player at our slot.

P.S. Trevor Lawrence is pretty mid to be honest.

Are you enjoying having Slaf as much as you'd enjoy having Wright? Draft position matters during a tank.

Kotkaniemi over Tkachuk and Galchenyuk over Forsberg says different.
Obviously a good drafting position doesn't mean your team will draft the right guy. But it means that the "right guy" is avalaible to draft. With a worse position that "right guy" might not be avalaible. I should not have to explain that to adults honestly.
