There are good examples and bad examples. Oilers are a bad example as they have 2 top 5 players in the league, one potentially being a top 5 player all time when he's done his career. A good example that you could've used is Florida finally being a winning cultured team after years of never winning a playoff series. Personally I think it has more to do with team building but counter points to that perspective would be a team like Buffalo or even Ottawa who on paper are teams built to do better but have a culture of losing that they can't shake
Is it a culture of losing or a team that has a lot of talent but is poorly built?

Yes it is. The top 2 lines are OK. Needa better 3rd. Heineman will never be healthy. And need a better rw than RHP.
The way I see it, Roy and Newhook are 3rd liners on a contender until proven otherwise.

We still need two top 6 forwards or we'll go back to the perpetual mediocrity zone imo, good enough to make the playoffs not good enough to win anything.

Newhook I totally agree. Roy I can think can be a second liner (we don't know his ceiling yet as it's too early on).

Not only do we lack top 6 talent but we lack a franchise gamebreaker. One such player and we're on our way.

Agreed, hence the ''3rd liners until proven otherwise''. I see the potential but I've been burned too many times with this team so I aim low and wait to be pleasantly surprised now.

I just don't get the ''we already have all the pieces, don't worry about the tank'' point of view. If we'd won the Bedard lotto I'd kinda get it but this roster still needs an influx of high end offensive talent.

They are both 2nd line calibre. But they do need a couple of more scoring line calibre forwards. If they have 6 guys better then Roy and Newhook they have a Cup contender on offense.

If Ottawa beats LA I'll dye my hair pink and go to work butt naked tomorrow, that's how confident I am these losers won't get the job done.
On my way to work right now, a promise is a promise but Ottawa only got a point so I figured I should be allowed to wear one piece of clothing of my choosing. :sarcasm:

Scoring wingers are usually easy to find. We see the prices Tarasenko went for. Every year they are available in free agency too.

We draft one this year with our 1st, the acquire one like Tarasenko. And there's our top 9

Ottawa still hasn't beaten a Western Conference on the road this season. What a crazy stat.

They get a point. 4 pts back with 2 games in hand.

They play the Sharks Saturday.

Meh I don’t think we need to worry about tanking too much, think all the pieces are pretty much in place.

Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Newhook-Dach-Roy
Heineman-Beck-RHP

Hutson-Reinbacher
Guhle-Mailloux
Xhekaj

Monty/Fowler

That’s the core

I think Newhook and Roy should play with Beck on the 3rd if we all want to see Habs become a legit Stanley Cup contender.

Yes Newhook and Roy can play on top 6, but today in NHL, if Habs want to become a force, I see the High Pick 2024 pick Forward with Kirby Dach and a really good young talented forward from trade or a really good forward from UFA for build a really really good 2nd line.

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield.
High Pick - Dach - Trade//UFA.
Newhook - Beck - Roy.

That will be really really good to see in the future.

Expected loss vs. Carolina happened. Remain on track for a 70 pt season. We should expect a loss on Saturday against Toronto, especially since they'll roster all their additions and look to prove a point after losing twice to Boston.
