Flyers Insider,
Nashville Insider,
Arizona literally took the next RHD

I don't know what more you need, after the consensus top 4 we had 3 teams and at least 4 think that he was the best. Hell Grier is quoted as saying he wasn't sure that Michkov is the sure thing fans see him as
Who said Michkov @5
Philly Assistant GM in interview
Nashville GM Trotz said when Askarov’s name was popping up this fall Said more than once in interviews months after the draft that they had been targeting a “young Dynamic Centerman” at 5.
Michkov told Arizona to F off before the draft.

The best to describe this team for me now and over the last 30 years is mid. Even now, they don't have enough talent to win a cup and are supposedly too "good" to acquire that talent by actually drafting high. Depth is easier to acquire than core talent yet for some reason, the Habs are proud of their depth as a rebuilding team and will never address their core concern :help:.

They're only going up. Botched rebuild imo, especially last year when for whatever reason, they didn't sell high to secure a franchise C.

David Reinbacher was clearly a legitimate choice at #5. He had an outstanding draft season in what may be the second or third best league in the world, there are multiple lines of evidence that he was not a reach st his position, and if he meets his potential he will be a perfect fit for the Habs' core. He was the BPA and he fills a need.

I hope he develops well and I look forward to seeing him in Laval next year.

I'm not going to argue on this other than NL is not the 2nd or 3rd best league in the world. KHL, SHL, Liiga and AHL are all better imo.

D’s are notoriously difficult to judge, even some time after the draft. I’m rooting for him.

Even when Michkov is putting up 100 points in the NHL and Reinbacher is Adam Larssen, Coping Habs Fans are still gonna be like:

So we’re just making stuff up now lmao cool
Michkov wanted to be a Flyer. Which doesn't speak well for his intelligence but if he told the Coyotes he wouldn't sign there then why would he not have told HuGo the same thing.

Not sure the players leading the KHL in scoring would be in the top 10 in the AHL.

It is pure fanfiction. I could understand for Arizona. I don't think any player want to be drafted by this team. But Montreal? Russian player do love the city. Pretty sure, it has Kent (and his scout) who did not want Michkov with the Habs.

I'm happy with Reinbacher. The 2023 draft is over. Let move on. I'm confident, we will find a good forward in this year draft. We also draft twice in the first round in 2025.

He said he wanted to play for the Flyers. He told Arizona to get lost. All he had to do was get HuGo to pass on him to get to the Flyers.

I have to disagree....just because I can't agree yet.
This was our line-up on game #1

Caufield - Suzuki - Anderson
Slafkovsky - Dach - Newhook
Pearson - Monahan - Gallagher
RHP - Evans - Ylonen

This has not be close to our line-up for this seaons. All I have is 4 periods.....Habs scored 7 goals in those period.....Dach was on the ice for 4 of them, 2 points.

Too small of a sample. not conclusive for sure.
But how can we analyze where we are?

If Dach is the point per game he pretty much was since he was placed back at center.....I won't agree with you, If he's just the average 40-45pts center, then I totally agree with you.

Having a 6'4'' center able to drive a second offensive line change the whole complexity of the line-up.

Man that's way too optimistic. Dach has proven nothing yet and is likely Ryan Johansen 2.0, not some franchise C. Our standards for quality keep falling and we're okay with it. In Montreal, we have a rich history of expecting the very best and it should stay that way. Sad to see people being okay and even embracing the perpetual mediocrity that this team has been. Half-ass attempts to compete for a cup followed by half-ass attempts to rebuild and acquire top talent.

NL is on par with the KHL and SHL, maybe a notch below as I haven't seen a ton of their games since it's not a league we ever had much prospects play in. It's a strong league though. Liiga no way as that league while better then the weak Czech league, it's at least a notch below NL I would assume. I haven't seen that many KHL games this year though and I'm a big fan of the SHL vs the NL, Liiga, or Czech league.

Since the AHL is 95% NHL owned, it's just a development league to me so I don't like to compare them to pro leagues who sole job is to try and win so they don't get regulated to a lower level.

Fair enough. Maybe times have changed but I just don't recall the NL ever being very strong.

Dach could be nothing, but a PPG center of that size...well, you're lucky to get that in any draft, even if it's not an instant stars and before injury, he was getting there.

We have a rich history of living in the past, when ther was 20 teams, not european and no cap space allowing to overspend the 3\4 of the league. Time has changed.

Management can't will what's going on the ice, we finished 5th last year, 1st overall the year prior, they traded practically everything of value......you called that half-ass?

1st two years ago was a Bergevin/Ducharme double combo. Last year, we could've traded Anderson and Monty. This year, they're just getting to OT on goaltending so yes it is half ass. Want to tank, go all in. Want to compete for a cup, go all in.

The NL/NLA was always strong because it's known as one of the highest paying leagues outside of the NHL, it's why you see a lot of former NHLers end up there.
