Will Grier, QB of the Florida Gators, suspended for the remainder of the season. Supposedly steroids.

Poor Brock Anton. That really sucks.

Hmm... I need a shorter title.

Rationale/Commentary:

Most of the Sun Belt really sucked last year. I hope they suck again this year.

My gut tells me we will lose one conference game that is winnable on paper. Idaho was awful last year, but we never seem to win when we go out west. I'm penciling that one in as our random loss, but it might as well be anybody.

The GA Southern game will have the most buildup and will probably be the rowdiest night of the season. I'm betting hoping praying the atmosphere will help us narrowly avoid losing to them again.

i made it halfway through the season before getting one wrong

i am very smart

then again predicting a loss for a game we won 59-14 kinda feels almost as embarrassing as swinging at a wild pitch

And the list of whose name has come up with regards to replacing the Spurrier at USC based on the names that have flitted about the blogosphere since Spurrier announced his resignation:

  • Dino Babers (Head Coach, Bowling Green)
  • Matt Campbell (Head Coach, Toledo)
  • David Cutcliffe (Head Coach, Duke)
  • Mark Dantonio (Head Coach, Michigan State)
  • Shawn Elliott (Interim Head Coach, South Carolina)
  • P.J. Fleck (Head Coach, Western Michigan)
  • Scott Frost (Offensive Coordinator, Oregon)
  • Justin Fuente (Head Coach, Memphis)
  • Mike Gundy (Head Coach, Oklahoma State)
  • Tom Herman (Head Coach, Houston)
  • Skip Holtz (Head Coach, Louisiana Tech)
  • Chip Kelly (Head Coach, Philadelphia Eagles)
  • Lane Kiffin (Offensive Coordinator, Alabama)
  • Chris Kleiman (Head Coach, North Dakota State)
  • Will Muschamp (Defensive Coordinator, Auburn)
  • Ed Orgeron (Defensive Line Coach, LSU)
  • Rich Rodriguez (Head Coach, Arizona)
  • Kirby Smart (Defensive Coordinator, Alabama)
  • Jake Spavital (Offensive Coordinator, Texas A&M)
  • Charlie Strong (Head Coach, Texas)
  • Brent Venebles (Defensive Coordinator, Clemson)
  • Dave Wommack (Defensive Coordinator, Ole Miss)

I'd have no interest whatsoever in Kiffin or Holtz. Smart, Fuente, Cutcliffe, and Herman interest me.

Could probably take out a bunch of those just based on the job he has now (Strong, C Kelly, Dantonio). Those are better jobs. Of course, Strong could be out soon but you never know.

For the sake of the program (meaning, don't just rinse and repeat a coach after three years when they don't succeed under unrealistic expectations), I would go with a guy who's built a program from the ground up. Lean on THAT type of guy. Because SC isn't a "great" program. You can't just say "Gamecock" to a southern kid and they'll follow.

Fuente seems like the hot commodity at the moment. And, he is exactly the type of guy I'm referring to. That Memphis could go into Ole Miss and dominate....ridiculous considering the stature of both schools.

I'd go with him and GIVE HIM TIME. Which of course is the hardest thing to do in the age of social media.

Skip or Lou? :sarcasm:

Either. The rumor always was though, that in Lou's contract that there was a clause that if he retired, Skip was to be given preference as the next head coach. I think that clause went away the minute Lou stripped Skip of his Offensive Coordinator role in their last year. Now THERE'S a family issue that I'd love to hear more about. How do you tell your son and heir apparent that you've just killed his career?

I think Strong and Dantonio get put on the list given their connections to the program with Strong being a former Defensive Coordinator at USC and Dantonio being an alumni. Building a program from the ground up is one of the things that intrigues me about Cutcliffe. I just can't overlook what he's done at Duke. I can't help but wonder what he'd do at a school where football is already the number one sport and where he'd have access to resources that he could only dream of at Duke.

If I'm South Carolina, I'm giving Kirby Smart a blank check. USCe seems like a job that would tempt him away from Alabama as well.

I think Fuente ends up in Knoxville when Jones inevitably gets the sack.

I forget who it was that tweeted that USC would absolutely be a job that Smart would leave 'Bama for.

Ahhh that gets filed under "two things I didn't know." Makes more sense the, re. Strong and Dantonio.

Cutcliffe is intriguing. You're right about Duke, he's built that program amazingly well. Plus his old SEC connections don't hurt.
