Would be dumb to miss camp, especially with new coach. Don't put yourself above the team. It looks bad on the player.

Still not concerned. Not a huge deal if he misses the first couple of days. First day is only physicals anyway so they have until Thursday to get it done without him really missing anything. If this spills over into next week and he's missing preseason games, then I'll be concerned.

As soon as Stepan realizes he has to take a two year deal, I'd imagine it gets done quickly.

This is getting ridiculous. Step played under 50 games at the level that he's asking to be paid at for the net 5 or 6 years. I want him to keep it up as much as anyone, but I'm not sure he will. Why put that pressure on yourself after half a good season? Take the most you can get out of the bridge and work hard to get that next payday.

We have two top 6 centers even without Stepan in camp. It won't be an issue and there is 0% chance he misses any regular season action.

He was streaky and played poorly by his standards in the postseason, but Richards put up the prorated equivalent of a 60 point season last year. That's top 6 material, even though he was force-fed minutes.

If we can get 60 from Richards this year, it would be a big and very unexpected contribution.

If DZ couldn't hold out being DZ after his solid .5PPG season, Step isn't going to be able to do ****. 2.55 for DZ, Step will deal with 2.75-3.

The only question i have is whether or not Step is being low balled. We all thought Zucc would get 1.75. Zucc had arb too.

Stepan is a significantly better player than Del Zotto IMO. He's not a head case at all at any time. Smart in the defensive end--plays in all situations. Just a better all around player.

He was a bit of a headcase to start last season, he even talked about how he was in his own head.

Hence the higher pay. Knowing Glen & co. though, that won't translate to much since it was only a shorten season. His start last year was poopy.

Its ludicrous to compare stepan with DZ, Dubinsky, or Anisimov. He has about the same points in 3 years as those two combined.
His Production has went up every season, Most reliable 2 way center on team.
everyone on here uses the small sample size against him. What more do you guys want as a sample size. coming in as a 19 year old making the big club and never missing a game(healthy scratch, Injury) in 3 years and thats with Torts who has a track record for mistreating kids. Last year he was a legit #1 center. Year before a legit #2
He will take a 2 year bridge deal thats not the issue.
But it needs to be 3 - 3.5 mill per and he is only being offered 2.6 per right now.
Kadri has been offered 2.9 per and is asking for 3.5.
They are not even real comparables they had similar stats last year but that is the 1st real year kadri even played in NHL.
Derek has been doing consistently and is way better as a 2 way player.
He is projected by most to center the 1st line on the US olympic team they need to get him signed and in camp.
If you dont think he is a # 1 center thats fine. He is not asking for 1st line center money.
He wants to be paid like his comparables and thats it.
2 yr bridge at 3.2 per gets this done and he gets paid like a 4-6 forward. pretty fair I think

Interesting take on the situation. Where do you get these numbers?
Like I said, one cannot really compare Stepan with Anisimov or Dubinsky. Just a bit nasty by me doing so, but something I am pretty sure Glen Sather is doing as well. More comparable with Couture or Duchene (that has a much higher pedigree and value due to draft position - like it or not that is how it works). He will soon see a bridge deal signed. Subban got $2.875 in a bridge deal - then he won the Norris. Doubt seriously Stepan will get more. Time will tell.
