When you add more outdoor games you dilute the winter classic... This isn't to say that try won't gain rev... But it's not like adding 3 - 4 more Winter Classics will multiply the rev by that #.

Agreed. The Winter Classic is more sizzle than steak. It's a spectacle, but the quality of hockey is awful hockey.

The outdoor game is a money maker for the NHL. They pay the team for the home date and rent the stadium. Everything goes in the NHL pocket. All of the tickets for the US games have sold fast. Even in NY,they could sell more than 2 outdoor games.

I really have no desire to go. Freezing my ass off and dealing with poor site lines isn't too appealing to me. Im too old to play the "just to say I was there" card.

And thats without mentioning my biggest reason -- I loathe lining the NHL's pockets.

The strange thing is that a bridge deal could end up working out in Stepan's favor. He'll become UFA under a much higher salary cap and teams will actually have cap space to throw money his way. Also, with all the other elite forwards locked up long term Stepan could easily end up being the most coveted forward in that offseason.

Given Slats & co. doesn't leak much, I wonder if the term is settled to a certain extent and it's about the money.

To me, the best part of the Winter Classic last year for the 24/7 leading up to the game — not the game itself. The play was pretty terrible.

I too still have my self-imposed embarg against the NHL (and to lesser level the Rangers).

Matt Oates was another dick draft pick by Neil Smith.

Let Stepan hold out. It will give people an excuse when he goes through scoring slumps.

Going to the Winter Classic in Philly was one of the best sporting events I've been to. Nothing else like sitting down in a row of Rangers fans while an entire stadium of Flyers fans is standing during the Briere penalty shot and the entire stadium sitting down simultaneously while just our row jumped up after Lundqvist made the save. The atmosphere at that game was amazing.

The Bridge deal doesn't get him to UFA.

The bridge deal gets him to his Arb. years.

He will still be a RFA after a two year bridge deal.

Then the Rangers sign him long term keeping him from UFA status until his early 30's.

Glad you had fun. It was a pretty poor display of hockey on TV.

Boyle at $1.7M. Swap him and you have the $ along with waiving Asham and Powe. Does Lindberg at $700,000 make Boyle expendable? Hagelin and/or Callahan on LTI. Does Lindberg's performance at Traverse City change the Rangers thinking? They had never seen him play in North America on the smaller ice until TC. McDonagh has 3 group 3 years in his $4.7M.

Exactly. I'm not eager to see the Rangers move players out to accommodate Stepan's demands.

His demands? ha

The guy is worth more than $2 mill or whatever.

Love how a mismanged franchise should equate to Steps taking a hair cut.

Slats is a goof.

Brooks reports that Stepan is being offered $2.75-3M which is fair for a player coming off an ELC with no arbitration rights.
