I believe we are in the midst of one of those magically Red Sox years where they win the World Series. I prefer someone from the National League wins, mostly the Dodgers.

But if I had to choose a team to win in the AL I will say Houston because it isn’t Boston and mainly this could be Dusty Baker’s last year coaching. He deserves a WS.

Coached the Giants, Cubs and Nats and those teams all won World Series after he left though not immediately except for Washington.

Unfortunate that he was 6 outs away from a WS in 2002 when they were up 5-0 only to give up 3 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th to lose game 6 and eventually game 7. After this is contract wasn’t renewed. Crappy way to go out. And then the very next year he joins the Cubs and that was the year we had the Bartman interference.
I have a hard time seeing anyone left beating out the Dodgers. It feels so dirty cheering for Houston in a series lol.

Wasnt Bostons manager Alex Cora part of the Houston cheating?

Look's like he gave the cheat code to Kike Hernandez this playoffs.

I think the Braves have a legit shot. Didn’t think they could beat the Brewers with that rotation and pen and they did without guys like Acuna and Ozuna.

The key for the Braves is to get early wins. Over the last 5 days the Dodgers used Schrezer twice and over the last 4 they used Buehler and Urias. So the Dodgers will have guys on short rest and start the series using openers.

Not to mention that despite having 18 more wins than the Braves, Atlanta has home field advantage over the Dodgers. MLB has some really stupid rules.

It really all does come down to whether the Dodgers can eke out some good pitching performances from some tired arms. I do think they're a much better and deeper team so I still think they're going to win handily but this is definitely an X-factor.

Jays win 91 games and miss the playoffs. Atlanta wins 88 games and gets home field advantage over a team that won 105 and had to win a one-game Wild Card to sneak into the playoffs.

Atlanta winning it all would be hilarious.

Sucks that Atlanta is the only team that I wouldn't hate to see win it. Any combination of Dodgers/Red Sox/Astros sucks.

I have zero interest in this years playoffs. MLB really need to change the playoff format. It’s so stupid and I’ve been saying that for years. This year really highlights it though.
And all series should be best of 7. It's already hard enough to make an 8 team plus 2 wildcard playoffs, but then once you do the division series are only best of 5? Just silly.

AA did come from the Expos mailroom and worked for Friedman.

Also, everyone who comes from the Rays org is great except for....

I'd add a third wild card team in each league and have the lowest of the three division winners have to play the wild card (but probably give them the first seed regardless of their record compared to the WC teams).

I'd increase the Wild Card series to 2 out of 3 (probably all in the higher team's park).

The wild card winners would play the top 2 division winners in a 3 of 5 series. You could possibly expand this to 7 but I kind of like the increasing length of series as they get more important.

And of course, the winners of those series would meet for the League championship with the winner going one to the World Series just like now.

If MLB expands to 32 teams (which I think they will), I think they'll either realign each of the AL and N into 2 divisions of 8 (like the NHL) or 4 divisions of 4 (like the NFL). At that point, I would expand the playoffs to 8 teams from each league (my thought is division winners plus enough wild card slots to make it 8) . There would then 4 rounds like the NHL and NBA. Personally, I'd look at 3 out of 5 for the first 2 rounds and 4 out of 7 for the league championship series and the World Series.

They could look at reseeding between rounds but that seems to be a less popular option these days and I suspect the leagues have reasons to believe that a straightforward bracket ia preferred by fans.

Well, AA had already GMed a team to a league championship series before he ever worked for Friedman.

And while I don't always agree with Montoyo's managerial decisions, I have no problems with the idea that management sees things in him that they consider more important than game strategy. And while, we can all point to Montoyo decisions that MAY have cost the Jays games. We have no idea whether or not other aspects of what he did as a manager MAY have won the Jays games.

Truth be told, there is no way to know how things might have changed if Montoyo had made different decisions. And as fans, we simply do not have enough information to evaluate how he does his job,

Report: MLB to require teams to provide housing for minor league players

we already pay ours the most in the league. wonder if teams will vote to change locations of minor league affiliates to get them in to one region. then turn around and buy a complex or build one for the teams

The Jays are actually in the process of building a hotel by the water in Dunedin for its players to live.

"The hotel is to be built on a stretch of property near the water in Dunedin, which is located on Florida’s Gulf coast — and happened to be one of the stops on Zach Honig’s tour of the area earlier this year.

The proposed development is a three-story, 51-room boutique property that is being called the J Hotel. It’s a fitting name, given that the hotel is meant to be a dormitory exclusively for Blue Jays players during spring training. The city commission had a meeting about the hotel Oct. 7 with the developer and landowners, according to the St. Pete Catalyst."

if that's the case i wonder if they should contemplate moving all the minor league affiliates to Florida. I cant see that being very likely with the amount of teams that would be vying for that location

Looking for the Marlins Next Catcher
Blue Jays: The Canadian birds are loaded with young, cheap, controllable catchers, with varying degrees of appeal. Danny Jansen is entering his age-27 season, which will be his first of three arbitration years. MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz recently projected his salary will be a modest $1.5MM. He dealt with various injuries in 2021 and only got into 70 games, but hit 11 home runs in that time and slashed .223/299/.473, producing a wRC of 105 and 1.4 fWAR. Reese McGuire got a lot of playing time when Jansen was hurt, getting into 78 games and hitting .253/.310/.343, for a wRC+ of 78 and 1.3 fWAR. He’ll turn 27 in March, has just over two years of service time and is therefore one season away from arbitration and four away from free agency. Alejandro Kirkalso spent some time on the IL and only got into 60 games. He hit .242/.328/.436 for a wRC+ of 106 and 0.7 fWAR. He’ll turn 23 in November and has five years of team control remaining. On top of those three MLB-ready options, the club also has one of the best catching prospects in the majors in Gabriel Moreno. Baseball America lists him as the 8th overall prospect and the second-highest catcher, behind only Adley Rutschman. MLB Pipeline and FanGraphs both have him as the 32nd overall prospect. Though he hasn’t reached the big leagues yet, he finished 2021 at Triple-A and will be appearing in this year’s Arizona Fall League. With the Blue Jays losing Robbie Ray and Steven Matz to free agency, they could perhaps part with one of these catchers in exchange for one of the dozen or so starting pitchers that the Marlins have to offer.

Man I swear every game is just a battle of the bullpens. These games are turning into 4 hour marathons. Anytime a base runner reaches base a new pitcher is summoned.

So what has happened to the Vancouver Canadians? I know they changed leagues? There playing 66 home games. But all the teams are the same as when they played in the short season.

I thought they were playing higher competition?

The whole league was elevated from short-season Low-A to High-A (well, except for Boise and Salem-Keizer. They were cut out of the league and ended up in a pair of Independent leagues).

So they play the same opponents as they used to, but the level has risen 2 steps and become full-season (May-September for a season of 110+ games) High-A ball and some of the other teams' affiliations have changed as the league shrinks from an 8-team operation to a 6-team one. The affiliation changes saw the Cubs, Rangers, and Padres leave the league, the Angels join, and the Giants and Rockies switch from the two ousted teams to two of the remaining ones that were vacated by the previously mentioned departures)

It still seems like a kind of shortsighted alteration. I'm not sure what genius thought that playing in open-air stadiums in the Pacific Northwest before mid-June was a good idea. Without even looking at all the schedules from last season it seems like there were potential rain-out problems (if they weren't covid cancellations) as the 6 teams in the league played 111, 119, 112, 117, 116, and 119 games respectively.

I want a Boston vs Atlanta finals. Dodgers loaded up by spending more money than certain countries and the Astros deserve every bad thing coming their way.
Yeah getting another Dodgers v. Astros final would be lame

Playoffs need to be expanded in all faucets to make the regular season mean something. Here is what I would like to see so more have meaningful baseball in September and October:

1) Shrink regular season schedule from 162 games to 155 games
2) Top 6 teams in each league make playoffs, with 1 wildcard team from the entire league (both in AL and NL)
3) Top record in AL and NL get byes in first round of playoffs. Remaining 6 teams are seeded based on records 1vs6, 2vs5, 3vs4. First round is best 2 out of 3.
4) Remaining 4 teams are re-seeded again. 1vs4, 2vs3. 2nd round best 4 out of 7.
5) ALCS and NLCS, best 4 out 7.
6) World Series, best 4 out 7.

That allows 2 additional teams to play meaningful playoff games every year. It provides excitement in the division playoff spots and wildcard spot.

Some may say that teams lose gate revenue this way if you dont make the playoffs. My response, then make sure your try to field a strong enough team to compete year in and year out. This should promote more parity in the league to want to win instead of throwing away seasons.

Crappy divisions are not rewarded and top teams actually make the playoffs.

If we use AL as an example this past season:

1. Tampa Bay
2. Houston
3. Chicago
4. Boston
5. Yankees
6. Toronto
7. Seattle

Round 1

Tampa Bay = BYE

Houston vs Seattle
Chicago vs Toronto
Boston vs Yankees

If we use NL as an example:

1. SF Giants
2. LA Dodgers
3. Brewers
4. St Louis
5. Atlanta
6. Cincinnati
7. Philadelphia

SF Giants = BYE

LA Dodgers vs Philadelphia
Brewers vs Cincinnati
St Louis vs Atlanta
