The New York Rangers are a perfectly built team this year

Also, that 1 win was against a depleted islanders squad made up of mostly AHL guys

I would definitely say shocking. When it was 3-1 I was saying to myself...we came back 3-1 last night against a struggling team, this is a 2 goal deficit against a world class goalie, don't think that's happening tonight.

This thread is going to go down in the pantheon of HFboards threads, well done OP.

They better hope they’re nothing like Kakko Andersen Lafreniere and Kravatsov.

Cythil is solid I think.

They'd somehow ruin Bedard at this point, Gallant would play him a 4C checking role.

I feel like the Islanders have had the Rangers number for a lot of years now, dating back to the Rangers pre re-tool times.

Too lazy to check but I remember betting a game back in 2016 thinking to myself how weird it is that the Islanders had won 7 of the last 10 meetings as the Rangers were considered the better team at the time. And I don't remember that really changing over the last few years. Maybe in 19/20 NYR swept a home and home series but other than that the wins have been quite rare.

So it's probably not so much on Shesterkin to be fair.

Unfortunately( if rangers draft him) I think he will be really hard to ruin. Kid is special.

I think for sure since the Lou era.

That being said, goalies should come up big. There was a whole thread last year where rags fans were insulted if you even insinuate

I’d say definitely since the Lou era. I mean he hasn’t been an elite goalie against the Islanders. Also there was a thread last year we’re Rangers fans were up in arms and insulted if you even insinuated that another goal he could be as good as Igor or even come close to him. Even though I had detailed stats that proved Sorokin was right there. So I’m not making any excuses and letting them get away with any excuses. 1-7-1 against your rival is pretty pathetic when you’re supposed to be the greatest goalie on the planet.

That being said, he is elite but he isn’t the undisputed best goalie in the world like rangers fans love to believe.

I simply do not see any weaknesses in the Rangers roster this season, they are solid in every department. In my mind they are the best team in the East and only the Avs match them.

Vezina winning goalie in Shestyorkin

Norris winning defender in Fox

Elite 1C in Zibanejad

Elite 1W in Panarin

Great 2C in Trocheck

50 goal scorer in Kreider

Big physical presence in Blais, Reeves, Trouba

Elite young players in Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov

Deadly power play and solid penalty kill

Great coaching by Gallant
What’s the opposite of burning down Villages?

Oh, for sure Sorokin could easily have a season like Shesterkin last year. He's got the ability for it.

The google machine says isles are 26-11-1 against the rangers since the the 14-15 season, which was the (first) last season at the Coliseum

Extremely hyped up defense core.

I mean their defensive efficiency isn’t good

The way they talked about Schneider, and Miller, and trouba like they are all top pairing or top pairing in the making
Trouba has always been way overrated. Schneider and Miller are actually talented. Miller isn’t Hedman like some rags fans were saying he would be but they’re both really solid young defenders. I think it could be a coaching issue with them. Zac Jones too.

Lots of teams are guilty of gushing about younger players until they have time to see the warts, but yeah the Rangers D is vastly overrated. Fox is real good, but not the world beater he's made out to be, but after that it's a lot of nothing burger.

K'Andre Miller is solid and Schneider fills a need for them the way Mayfield fills a need for us. In theory, the construction of their d is not perfect but it's what most teams would like to have. #1 offensive D, complimentary defensive defensemen in Lindgren and Schneider, two-way top 4 in Miller, big-hitter with o ability in Trouba and possible 2n unit pp qb in Jones.

Seems like coaching is the big issue there.
