And Richard Nixon wasn't a crook.

The forcefulness of a denial has no bearing on its veracity. Regardless, the disaster isn't that they cornered themselves into trading Giroux for peanuts because they wouldn't agree to bring him back, but that they cornered themselves into having to trade him at all.
Doesn't mean he's telling the truth, but Briere's flat rejection is still the best evidence we have so the rumor is certainly not an undisputed fact.

There's no reasonable place on this team for a 35 year old Giroux eating up a major chunk of cap space, so it's a moot point, anyway.

I do believe yesterday’s stories were probably exaggerations based on a few breadcrumbs about internal debates.

EDIT: I should clarify that I think the sources probably exaggerated these breadcrumbs.

The idea handshake agreements don’t happen in sports is one of the most tap your nose and wink things. Everyone knows they happen. Leagues don’t even have negotiating windows and players get signed instantly. They just can’t happen publicly so as to violate policy. So, no one would ever publicly say anything to the contrary. Surely, someone with, say, a legal background would understand self-incrimination. Arguing against this isn’t contrarianism; it’s flaunting how gullible and naive you are.

I don’t know if it’s true, but something has always smelled fishy with Giroux’s exit. Notice someone like LeBrun (Giroux’s go-to media guy) didn’t even broach the subject of a Flyers return. Just asking if it was possible. It’s like it’s known.

Friedman said the Flyers interviewed Jack Capuano.

Such a wide net, thank god they did their diligence. I didn’t even know he was still in the league. You’d never guess, but he was an Assistant Coach on the World Cup USA team.

Whether of not there actually is a rift in hockey ops, a source in hockey ops denying it really doesn't carry any weight.

Also, "One source related to Hockey ops said, “I can promise you he’s (Tortorella) our No.1 choice.”" reeks of when GMs insist after the draft how the player they picked was the guy they wanted all along.

I’m guessing the full sentence was: “I can promise you he’s our #1 choice, that is among the coaches desperate enough to come here and work for this utter shitshow of an organization”
