Tortz is a great coach... we still are a dead franchise though.
Good chance at BedardAnyone have any legit positives with this?
why, with specific examples, is he an excellent coach?LOL. What’s with this nonsense narrative that Tortorella is a bottom-of-the-barrel, disaster of a head coach?
He’s an excellent coach.
4 Art Ross trophies and 2 MVPs in 7 seasons, and a historical playoff run this year. Give me a breakWhat’s McDavid won again?
And none of it means diddly squat unless it’s Lord Stanley4 Art Ross trophies and 2 MVPs in 7 seasons, and a historical playoff run this year. Give me a break
Then, man, you must really hate the Flyers. And none of it means diddly squat unless it’s Lord Stanley
Ah yes. 15 goals and 27 pts in 24 games in the playoffs. It has nothing to do with Carlson, Kuznetsov, or Backstrom. Ovechkin changed his game. That was the differenceIs he totally wrong there, though?
Caps won their only cup when Ovi molded under Trotz.
No I think being the best player ever means a decent bit. The Oilers are a lottery team without McDavid. Now if he just hunkered down and played a safer game, they'd win 4 cups in a row. Take that, TampaAnd none of it means diddly squat unless it’s Lord Stanley
Hayes won’t because he’s buddies with AtkinsonThere no chance Sanheim will want to sign here. Konecny will probably want a trade. I could even see Hayes being as issue. Trade them all, burn it down and start over.
So you agree with the herd who claim Torts is a disaster of a head coach?Didn't we hear this about AV when people doubted that hire?
I think there are two possible outcomes. We'll either be like the Blue Jackets and make the playoffs and maybe win a round, or the season will be a complete trainwreck like the Canucks when they hired him.I agree. Or his team will have to change. But, back to my question- Is Torts totally in a wrong there?
Also, Flyers do not have a McDavid or someone even close to that tier of talent on the roster, but they do have a lack of winning culture and work discipline. I for one would agree to any coach that can foster that.
I am not advocating for Torts specifically. For the next year or two this team will need to focus on shaking off martini stench and building a culture of accountability and responsibility, as well as drafting and developing talent. And I would like to have a bench boss that can do that. Trotz seems to be better suited for that. But he does not seem to be in the cards.
See my last post, 3 above this one.why, with specific examples, is he an excellent coach?
Yes. Make the playoffs without Giroux.I think there are two possible outcomes. We'll either be like the Blue Jackets and make the playoffs and maybe win a round, or the season will be a complete trainwreck like the Canucks when they hired him.
The last time he even made it to the Conference Final was 10 years ago. I don't think he has that winning culture in him anymore. He doesn't have that Trotz aura where he'll turn a mediocre team into an overperforming dark horse.
More than Selke winner Sean Couturier, who has never been past the second round of the playoffs in 4 more years than McDavid. What’s McDavid won again?
Strawman more please. So you agree with the herd who claim Torts is a disaster of a head coach?
His history strongly indicates otherwise.
Turned an incredibly young under-.500 Lightning franchise into a Stanley Cup winner in 4 years.
Turned a young and struggling Columbus team into an 108 point team in his 2nd year, followed by 98 and 97 point seasons, including a sweep of Tampa where they were woefully outmatched personnel-wise.
In between those stints, he had a successful tenure with a young and thin Rangers team (when he took over, Zherdev was their leading scorer, for F's sake), and had a 50 win season and another season with a conference final appearance.
I'd say that Tortorella has consistently accomplished more with less than just about any coach in the last 20 years, and, in stark contrast to popular belief, has a terrific history coaching young teams.
Yet on here it's all doom and gloom.
Have you seen any Blue Jackets games over the past few years? I don't watch post-game press conferences, so I'm not expecting any entertainment for quite some time. The problems in the dressing room will get solved rather quickly. Torts wasn’t my first choice but he will root out the rot and hold them accountable. We are about to be entertained at the least.
