It has become more and more obvious that they are waiting for Montgomery.

All those half-hearted attempts to informally talk to some of the higher profile guys around, only smoke and mirrors. Most of the candidates aren't even interested in the job at all.
Feels like Torts might be plan B. He wants the job but they are lukewarm about him.

If Torts wants the job, you gotta jump on that opportunity
I'm not hearing him mentioned as a particularly strong candidate anywhere else. If he wants the job, he'll probably still be there after the rest of the coaching carousel stops spinning, so it's worth investigating other options.

The worst thing that ever happened to this franchise is winning those two cups and permanently branding this dogshit franchise as the home of goons and retirement home of every overrated shitter who played on those teams.

That's why they're still trying to emulate that embarrassing theme 50 years later and why we're going to be a dumpster franchise for the foreseeable future.

We talking diff reasons

32 Thoughts mentioned Mike Vellucci of Pittsburgh as someone the Flyers interviewed. I believe Jim Rutherford brought him over from Carolina.

If he can bring Sullivan hockey here than im interested.
He has been in management too, so that's an interesting one.

As always though, what is the connection.

Also, sounds like the Flyers want to talk to Kirk Muller. The connection there is Dean Lombardi loves Darryl Sutter, so there has probably been some talk already.

They're going to interview a lot of people, I bet we don't ever find out who they all are until long after the process.

I think this could be an interesting option, especially if he is able to bring over a lot of the good aspects of Sullivan's coaching/hockey.

Funny that San Filippo had no idea that the Flyers had interviewed Mike Vellucci.

It sure sounds like the organization is split between those who want to repeat 2018, where Scott/Holmgren fired Scott and hired Fletcher with a "win now' mandate, and those who see this past season as evidence that a win now strategy would be futile and they need to spend 2-3 years reloading, adding a couple top tier young players and developing the large group of prospects who've arrived the last couple years.

So you interview Trotz, Torts and ??? on one hand, interview Vellucci, and some other development oriented HC candidates on the other. In effect, covering your bets while the PTB try to come to a consensus.

And it would explain why Fletcher is saying they need to add some top young players under 25, that they won't take 5 years or longer to rebuild and that they expect to compete now (similar to what Hextall said while rebuilding about staying competitive) - he doesn't know what his mandate will be so he's covering all the bases.

I don't think it's any more complicated than Fletcher wants to interview as many qualified candidates as possible. One might surprise him, so why limit the list to only a couple options?

Holmgren never comes up as a power player. It's always Clarke.

And even if you want to pretend Holmgren is this massive shadow broker....who is responsible for Homer? All evil in this organization stems from 1 dude, and it isn't Holmgren or Scott.

Fletcher is president, GM, and governor. He practically sets his own mandate. If he doesn't know what it is it's because he's a feeble leader.

Fletcher doesn't set anything, that was obvious from the get go, which is one reason they fired Hextall.
Note the one time the Flyers rebuilt, Holgmren was fired as HC and Clarke let go as GM.

I wonder if they're doing a "Howie?"

Roseman liked to interview a lot of candidates, not just to find the one who was the best fit, but to pick their brains and get outside perspectives on his players.
