They sure do want to piss off even more fans don’t they. The fans of try hard, grinding boring hockey would be thrilled
If we sign Torts, we will be very much in the running for Bedard, draft him and then subsequently ruin him.
If Torts got hold of Ristolainen, he’d run him through the ice with acidic criticisms. It would be merciless. Could get bad enough for Ristolainen to want to go back to Europe.
Wont matter how many you can score if the other team shuts you down. Look at the Tampa Bay series. Florida? Best league offense scored three goals in four games. Not to mention (but I will) Toronto. Great offense. Middling D. Lost the series. Can’t get past the first round if you can’t score though.
Flyers can’t do that.
They're getting the band back together!Lombardi & Homer were the GM & AGM respectively for that abortion of a USA World Cup team they constructed in 2016. Tortorella was the HC.
He might want to finish out the TV season...If they wanted Torts, wouldn't he be hired already?
Hart will be a mess if Torts comes here. Torts will berate the shit out of the kid.Honestly I don't think Torts would be as bad as people are making him out to be. He's definitely not my first choice but I wouldn't hate the move.

He definitely will go after him, but at the same time didn't Bob win a Vezina under Torts? I know he was further along in his career that Hart but if Torts yelling at Hart means he isn't going to succeed at the NHL level, he probably wasn't going to succeed in any meaningful way anyway. Torts is abrasive and benches guys for things other coaches wouldn't but his teams have been pretty successful over the years. I can't stress enough that this is not the guy that I am banging the drum for or anything like that, but I don't think it would be some unmitigated disaster.
I think the outrage at the hiring of Torts would be a massive overreaction by the fans here, but a predictable one. And given that the odds are against ANY coach that comes here to have any measure of real success are extremely low, it is a safe bet to be mad about whomever the coach is because regardless of who it is the overwhelming odds are that in a few years we will be calling his for head. Let's not forget, a lot of people were happy about Hakstol because he was an "outside the box" candidate and not one of the retreads of yesteryear.
Again, Torts is not my first choice and I am not suggesting this is a great move or anything like that. But he is a guy that has had success as an NHL coach regularly making the playoffs. Now, I will feel differently if this is a back up to a back up to a back up to the real plan and they settle for Torts because they either waited too long on someone else or just couldn't convince someone else to come here, but not about Torts as the coach just about the either idiocy of the Flyers management for not getting the coach they really want because of their own foibles or because the situation is just so bad.
Mason was here before Torts got there... I think Bob then Korpi/Merzlikins was there under Torts. He definitely will go after him, but at the same time didn't Bob win a Vezina under Torts? A coach that will last 2-4 years and then be fired for the roster revolting against him. Look at his past record. It's Laviolette all over again.Torts is a really good coach and most of the fanbase, other than on this board, would love him.
If the Flyers hire him, then they hired a good coach. With a Philadelphia personality.

Most coaches here last that long because they keep hiring ones that the roster can't work with. They need to get this hire right and get a coach that can stay for years...Most coaches last 2-4 years.
Hiring Tortorella is like hiring a football coach who hates throwing the ball.
Most coaches in the entire league last 2-4 years. It's just the way it is.Most coaches here last that long because they keep hiring ones that the roster can't work with. They need to get this hire right and get a coach that can stay for years...
Maybe if you don't think of the status quo things will get better.
You also have to think, with how the team is now, do you think it would scream "Man, this is exactly what Torts wants in a team!"? Generally GMs try to get a team that can work well with what a coach likes and wants to be successful. Considering the kind of players he had in Columbus, he definitely favored the grindy and block heavy players. If you want Torts, prepare to see Laughton and Mac on ice more than Couts or Farabee or Konecny.
So you are fine with treading water. Some of us fans want to become better than a team that treads water after decades of it.Most coaches in the entire league last 2-4 years. It's just the way it is.
If you don't want the Great Tortellini, that's fine. But he is a good coach.
