Can’t get past the first round if you can’t score though.

Flyers can’t do that.
Wont matter how many you can score if the other team shuts you down. Look at the Tampa Bay series. Florida? Best league offense scored three goals in four games. Not to mention (but I will) Toronto. Great offense. Middling D. Lost the series.

Granted you need some offense to win but a team needs to build defense first. From goalie on out. It’s easier to teach a defensive system - to players talented enough that buy in - then to find enough goal scorers that can overwhelm a defense. By no means does that mean stifle an offense. It does mean your forwards need to back check and be G* D* responsible supporting defense.

Your opponent will get frustrated and there will be plenty of opportunities to capitalize.

This is why I want to have Trotz. But he would be walking into a complete s* storm of a situation. If I were him, I wouldn’t take it without knowing he has final approval on trades, got paid stupid guaranteed money and Fletcher is out or promoted to the level of his incompetence.

Fletcher is a complete F* up. Seeler is not the right move to fix this team. The man is delusional.

Torts would absolutely hate Risto, he would also loathe Hayes, those are the only positives. But my lord the level of scrubs they would add would make previous years look nice

If they wanted Torts, wouldn't he be hired already?
He might want to finish out the TV season...

Honestly I don't think Torts would be as bad as people are making him out to be. He's definitely not my first choice but I wouldn't hate the move.
Hart will be a mess if Torts comes here. Torts will berate the shit out of the kid.

He definitely will go after him, but at the same time didn't Bob win a Vezina under Torts? I know he was further along in his career that Hart but if Torts yelling at Hart means he isn't going to succeed at the NHL level, he probably wasn't going to succeed in any meaningful way anyway. Torts is abrasive and benches guys for things other coaches wouldn't but his teams have been pretty successful over the years. I can't stress enough that this is not the guy that I am banging the drum for or anything like that, but I don't think it would be some unmitigated disaster.

I think the outrage at the hiring of Torts would be a massive overreaction by the fans here, but a predictable one. And given that the odds are against ANY coach that comes here to have any measure of real success are extremely low, it is a safe bet to be mad about whomever the coach is because regardless of who it is the overwhelming odds are that in a few years we will be calling his for head. Let's not forget, a lot of people were happy about Hakstol because he was an "outside the box" candidate and not one of the retreads of yesteryear.

Again, Torts is not my first choice and I am not suggesting this is a great move or anything like that. But he is a guy that has had success as an NHL coach regularly making the playoffs. Now, I will feel differently if this is a back up to a back up to a back up to the real plan and they settle for Torts because they either waited too long on someone else or just couldn't convince someone else to come here, but not about Torts as the coach just about the either idiocy of the Flyers management for not getting the coach they really want because of their own foibles or because the situation is just so bad.

You always think everything is an overreaction but then we end up being right.

You also have to think, with how the team is now, do you think it would scream "Man, this is exactly what Torts wants in a team!"? Generally GMs try to get a team that can work well with what a coach likes and wants to be successful. Considering the kind of players he had in Columbus, he definitely favored the grindy and block heavy players. If you want Torts, prepare to see Laughton and Mac on ice more than Couts or Farabee or Konecny. Also, there is a difference between putting someone in the doghouse and keeping players responsible for their actions. A coach also needs to let younger players play through some of their errors to learn and get better. Benching them for an entire period because of a mistake won't f***ing fix that mistake because they won't get a chance that game to make up for it.

Basically, Torts is not the right person for this team, and the thought of "tough love" is a bullshit and obsolete concept. Get someone who can get more out of them than they did before. Find the right balance for each player, pairing and line and go with it. Fix the PP, which Torts wouldn't do, because holy shit this can make a difference.

There are many better options than Torts. Also, if the Flyers did sign Torts, be prepared for less butts in seats, and if the Flyers do fail enough to get top 3 next draft, either one of those 3 players would be ruined by Torts.

Might as well have a sign in the locker room that says "Lacross goal = scratched next game."

Torts is a really good coach and most of the fanbase, other than on this board, would love him.

If the Flyers hire him, then they hired a good coach. With a Philadelphia personality.

Mason was here before Torts got there... I think Bob then Korpi/Merzlikins was there under Torts.

A coach that will last 2-4 years and then be fired for the roster revolting against him. Look at his past record. It's Laviolette all over again.

He is AV 2.0. Did you learn nothing from his tenure? His system/style, combined with Chuckles incompetency, is not going to turn this into a winning program. The league needs to move on from these fossils.

Most coaches here last that long because they keep hiring ones that the roster can't work with. They need to get this hire right and get a coach that can stay for years...

Maybe if you don't think of the status quo things will get better.

Hiring Tortorella is like hiring a football coach who hates throwing the ball.

Most coaches in the entire league last 2-4 years. It's just the way it is.

If you don't want the Great Tortellini, that's fine. But he is a good coach.

Did Trots transform his old ways with the CBJ?

If the answer is yes, that makes me way less hesitant. I don't want to go back to system chip and chase hockey.

Lol, that would never happen.
