Does anyone here have a shred of hope they make a good decision with this hire?
Or will it be the usual, they could have chosen a,b or c and been fine, but picked Trashy McJackass? The whole proven track record of success comment makes me lean towards ol' Trashy. Why do these hockey people love to drop coins in a dried up wishing well?

I mean you have the damned resources, budget and time to leave no stone unturned and get the very best option FFS! They haven't even brought someone in yet, and I'm getting heated. Stupid Flyers brass, suck it.

Sorry for the rant.

They're not bringing back Yeo.

The fact that they're in no rush to hire someone either means they're still hashing out internal disagreement, or more likely, the top candidates are working for playoff teams and they've already dismissed the retreads who were available.

They're going to interview Trotz just to deflect criticism, even if the target(s) are someone else. From a marketing standpoint, ignoring Trotz would look really bad to a sizeable proportion of the fan base. I doubt Trotz has any interest in Philly, Vegas sounds perfect for him, a talented veteran under performing team. Why would Trotz want another Islander situation, just enough talent to lose in the playoffs.

Winnipeg is Trotz best option , not Vegas. . Top goalie and enough offence that they can still score under him.

They would win ALOT of games 2-0 or 3-2.

Vegas definitely has the best roster available of all the open jobs. Friedman said a few weeks ago that Trotz wants to coach a few years then transition into the front office. I’d Winnipeg might offer that?

I don’t know if that’s the Flyers to be honest. They already have a lot of influential people in the front office including the heir apparent GM in Briere. Fletcher probably doesn’t get outright fired when his day comes too.

By no rush, they mean most guys they want will probably turn them down and they will have to sell what is left over

The Flyers will meet with Trotz this week. They’re not in a hurry to name a coach. They want to take their time to be thorough even if it means missing out on a coach potentially.

Sounds like they are going to wait it out for Montgomery.

I think they will get a good coach. I want them to get a coach that won’t raise the floor artificially by playing high end Defense. But that could happen with Trotz. I think Montgomery would be a good coach and could be the most likely option from a few points of view.

I think they’d want Trotz, not sure if Trotz would want them though. I think they’re trying to do some beforehand PR to try to mitigate things if/when Trotz picks somewhere else. Pretty much every team with an opening is interested in Trotz. So just odds alone aren’t in the favor.

The Isles are/were a wet dream for this organization. A team that’s short of talent compared to the top teams but gets into the playoffs & overachieves. So I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t want Trotz.

Unless they back into a stroke of good luck and end up with Trotz, no. Even then, that's a good decision, not a great one.

What this team desperately needs is to take a mammoth swing and get it right, to be right on someone like Grönborg or Groulx. What we're going to get is the biggest name who doesn't laugh himself into unconsciousness at the thought of putting up with these idiots for the next couple years.

Disagree. Unless Chevy agrees to move Scheiffle as part of the agreement no coach wants to walk into that mess. Plus the pressure of being home and not being able to go anywhere without being harassed I’d go with Vegas or Philly. But then again I live here

I could certainly see it. But those comments make it seem that they are not going to hire someone available right now because they are available right now. Sounds like Trotz. I am sure they would be happy to get him but it feels like they are waiting for someone else to shake loose. Montgomery makes sense in that scenario. I can’t see the pens or bruins changing much.

There is the possibility that they have a shred of a glimpse of reality amongst them, and are using Marek to put out a team-friendly interpretation for why Trotz will ultimately turn us down. That way, the Authentics will be more chill when we don't automatically get the biggest name.

But Trotz won a SC so everyone is falling over the guy. They’re forgetting that he’s a defensive coach first who has usually smothered the offensive capacity of his teams. If your club is defensively deficient, then maybe he’s your guy. However it’s going to come at a cost. Your offense is going to rot and I hope that your fans like boring hockey. Also he will play mediocre vets ahead of the organization’s young guys so don’t expect much player development. For the Flyers, I don’t see a great fit.
We have no big offensive talent to smother anyways so who cares. Also Nelson had 37 goals this year, but everyone ignores that.

Exactly. We dont have G, Jake, or Ghost anymore. What we do have is decent forward depth, a few underachieving dmen entering their prime years, and a goalie with a lot of upside. A well structured, hardworking, oppurtunistic team with a stud goalie is this teams only path forward. Trotz is the guy to do that.

If he wont come here then he wont come here...but its not dumb on Chucks part to go after him.

They want Trotz. It’s not some courtesy interview or anything. They’re going to make an offer. Now whether Trotz accepts it is a whole different conversation.

NRD said on his most recent podcast that Trotz & Montgomery are their top choices. But he implied that Montgomery is probably more likely given the differences in league interest between him & Trotz. He said the Flyers are high on Montgomery & was a guy they did a lot of background on going back to when they fired AV. Trotz obviously unexpectedly became available just recently which changed things some in their process.

Montgomery has coached the Blues to the 3rd and 2nd ranked PPs in his 2 years. Even in the playoffs right now in small sample, they're only behind Colorado. Not so great news is they were 3rd the season before as well. But both their units hum. Given his Denver teams were always pretty strong and creative offensively for a college team, you'd think he has a firm grip on offense.

And yet, his only full season in Dallas, that team was 3rd worst in GF. Interestingly enough, they were 2nd best in GA. While being 14th in xGF% and making the playoffs. In terms of low event and making the playoffs, for all the people salivating over Trotz, that looks Trotz-like. I don't say that with a positive connotation. To be fair to Montgomery, their roster was basically Benn-Seguin-Radulov right on the precipice of the cliff, Klingberg, and rookie Hintz/Heiskanen. Which is the real Monty?
