Now this could be an intriguing possibility...

I'd bet that one of Sullivan and Cassidy, if not both of them, are let go. The Flyers should be patient and wait until their situations are clarified. Pull a Roseman here and wait. Some of the best fruit falls from the tree the latest.
Not really into Trotz. I respect his coaching since he pounds defensive responsibility into his clubs but it usually comes as the expense of the team's offense. Also I don't see Trotz as a match here personnel wise. LL up on the Isle cited the lack of progress with the young players, especially Wahlstrom, as a reason why a change was needed there. Trotz would want a load of vets, Fletcher has indicated that he wants 25 year olds and under getting a shot.

Interesting... But can we let Trotz leave his interview tomorrow (assuming when he can get him), for the hope that either Cassidy or Sullivan get let go AND we can get them?
The bigger question is "can we stop Trotz from leaving?" Obviously, if you're sold on Trotz, and he's willing to sign on the dotted line, just get the job done. I'm working more from the perspective that he's interviewing us, and won't sign a damn thing until he's had a chance to do some due diligence on several other potential employers. In that case, you definitely want ears to the ground on Cassidy and Sullivan, and if none of them sign, there are still plenty of Groulx in the sea.

He's apparently scheduled to meet with Vegas on Tuesday, so I'm not holding my breath for him to walk straight into a presser on Friday.

I don't see any way that Sullivan is let go. The Penguins win that series if Crosby isn't knocked out IMO. He dominated them and nobody expected the Penguins to compete with their roster. If Hextall held onto Hak for so long there's no way I see him getting rid of Sullivan.

He's the #1 guy I'd want for the Flyers though, even over Cooper.

I actually wonder if there’s a single coach the Flyers and Fletcher would prefer to Trotz. I’m talking a full coaches draft and Flyers won the 1st pick. I think the Flyers would take Trotz still; they’re so drooly over him.
Quenneville maybe?

The Flyers are apparently “enamored” with Jim Montgomery per nhlrumorsdaily on the Cold Stove Podcast. He’s plugged in so this is interesting

I'll bet on Trotz going to Winnipeg (talent, but needs defensive structure, and it's homecoming) or Vegas (very talented veteran team that needs a strong hand to get over the top, shades of the Caps). There is no reason for him to come here, he's made enough money that an extra million a year (and Nevada has no income tax) will move the needle.

People whining that Fletcher is taking his time don't have anyone to point to other than Julien, Maurice, Torts, etc. And who wants them? Gronberg is the only out of the box candidate who is available.

The top candidates won't become available until either they're fired for not going deep into the playoffs (Sullivan, Cassiday, Keefe) or are assistants to teams in the playoffs. So why would you rush when you can wait and see who becomes available. If you have an AHL HC on the list, they're not going anywhere quickly.

You're explaining the problem by trying to lay out the rationale behind the mistake. There are more than 40 guys on the planet who can be HCs.

While we're at it, being an Asisstant on a team that goes deep in the playoffs is not necessarily a positive. It's a descriptor, but the league treats it like a qualification.

Umm... there's almost eight billion people on earth. It's his job to unearth people, not ours, but he's going to take the path of least work because he's a lazy sack of feces.

As always, those names you listed aren't the only options.

I know this is sort of off topic but I just looked at Jim Montgomery's career stats and holy shit, dude was a rockstar in college and the AHL.

Probably did some major partying in the 90s.

This will be yet another offseason of some great names being available and passing on them for a safe well travelled retread. The story has already been written - book it.

So you don't want them to sign Trotz?
