They dont make a play for Gaudreau they are going to lose even more fans (not saying I agree or disagree with going after him).

Good thing Chuckle f*** gave Risto over $5 million for replacement level results.

They have no cap space to do so. They pretty much Holmgren’d themselves again. They’d have to move a sizable contract with taking little to no cap back the other way just to even have a chance to make the cap work. That’s easier said than done with such a tight cap situation league wide. No guarantee you even make your team that much better after jumping through multiple hoops just to facilitate that.

Charlie said Couturier & Ellis (the latter the bigger question mark of the two admittedly) are more than likely gonna have to be counted as your big additions for next coming off this year.

———

On Gaurdreau’s end other than pure sentimental attachment to his hometown team he’s gonna have to likely take a big financial hit & agree to a team that’s future is a big question mark after two poor seasons. So no guarantee he would even want to be here if the Flyers some how miraculously got their cap situation in enough order.

Calgary also looks headed for a deep run in the playoffs this year after being in middling situation like the Flyers. Gaudreau had his best personal year under Sutter too. That might be tough to turn down along with a potential eight year deal (opposed to seven on the open market).

Montgomery funny enough probably has the stronger track record of producing offense & possession among the candidates even if he’s the lesser name.

Just reading the tea leaves and the “thought” process this organization uses. They need something they haven’t tried yet but they’ll want safe and they probably don’t want to pay a premium. And they love a known commodity. Monty checks off all of those boxes, but we’ll see.
I hope so but don’t see it. I think they want someone with name brand like Torts or Trotz. Hopefully they lose out and go Montgomery.

Just get some that can run a PP and PK and develops players well.

If you can get someone to take JVR’s hit, and move Lindblom, that’s 10 million right there. Theoretically it’s possible to sign JG…not that I would…but it’s possible financially.

You’re going to have to tie premium assets to JVR in order to move him and bring nothing back in.

Chuck will love it.

They will pay to move jvr's salary, fail to get Gaudreau and then spend the space to take on Erik Karlsson's contract and sell it as a success
Haha! Yes indeed! This is totally a Flyers move!

I do see the Flyers paying a team to take JVRs contract when waiting 'til the trade deadline would actually bring back something of value. If there are two possibilities, one smart and one dumb, Chuck will take the dumb one 9 out of 10 times.

Yeah there's no reason for Gaudreau to sign here.

Trotz is a great coach but his system is just dreadfully boring to watch. I hated the way those Islander teams played. Low event hockey with a focus on capitalizing on opponents mistakes. It does gets results but damn are they a snoozefest to endure. That Islander series was the worst playoff hockey I think I've ever watched, just straight boring for 90% of the game. I don't see him being able to elevate the roster beyond a first and second round exit either which just kind of puts the team back at drafting in the 16-20th range every year. I kind of hope he shuns us for Winnipeg or Vegas but you know with how much Chuck and company idolized those Islander teams, they're going to back up the Brinks truck for him.

My point is that he designs a system based around the roster he has. You can't run a Colorado Avalanche system with our crap roster.

I don’t think he’s a bad coach for the record. He’s no doubt gonna play a boring defensive style with this roster. I just seriously doubt he outruns the fact it’s mediocre at best & is on a downward trajectory in the long run.

Trotz would be the perfect coach for Vegas. If he's not set on going back to Manitoba, my guess is he ends up there.

Unless the Flyers throw a ridiculous amount of money at him, Trotz isn't coming to Philly.

Similar to the AV hire, he's not the right guy at the time, but he's probably the best available "known" candidate... which means the Flyers will do everything they can to get him, probably.

I still want the Flyers to take a chance at finding some actual new talent, but I've come around to Trotz as the only option that is likely tempting enough to stop Chuckles the Clown from making a mammoth mistake. Of course, right when we could get the Trotz, the team is the drizzling shits.
