I mean, this team *could* make the playoffs next year, if pretty much every core contributer has a close to career season and Fletch dumps a bunch of assets to get roster players that would actually be improvements.

But even if they did make the playoffs, who here honestly thinks they could even come close to winning a round of playoffs? How is this in any way a desirable outcome?

I'd love to know what Chuck Fletcher thinks he can do to make this team competitive. Actually i don't. His plan is plan A ) sign Gaudreau ... plan B) say they tried everything and failed.

why is it all or nothing? i get it you want a cup, i want a cup but so does every other team, that's what makes it difficult, you just got to keep trying every year to bring in talent. the blues didnt throw in the towel and they finally won a cup in 2019 because they kept trying. the lottery is rigged it's not going to help us, there's no other way.

if you want to tank, you have no clue what you are in for.

I'm not against Tocchet as the next HC. I do remember him as a player in the 80's (loved him), but that's not why... He's a guy that is a good communicator, will play the kids, and try to develop the kids. I believe he'll be straightforward and honest with the fanbase, and that'd be a nice change of pace. We're not winning anything anyway. I'd rather take my lumps and get into rebuild mode. I don't have much expectation of him winning games, and I really don't care.

I could be made to believe arguments for a bunch of the coaches that've been mentioned with one absolute exception: If Q is hired, I might be done with this team forever. The only thing that guy deserves is to be beaten with a pillowcase full of billiard balls.

Are you saying your goal is to be a bubble playoff team year in year out? Are you comparing the Blues in 2019 to the current Flyers roster? Are you saying taking to get top level talent is not going to help?

I'd love to hear your plan for turning the current roster into a cup contender without tanking for high draft picks. Please enlighten us.

You might want to check out how his tenure in Arizona played out.

I like the idea of trying someone new. Use some sort of instinct for hockey minds and snag an up and comer from juniors or another team's assistant. Hell, call the guy from Sweden.

I realize that Hakstol came from outside the league too, but missing once is no excuse for settling back into the old pattern.

i would rather be a bubble team and try to add talent then rely on the rigged draft that will put us in the coyotes territory.

Play the kids, draft #5 this year, top ten next year and field a deep, smart team.
If your bottom six is Cates, Frost, Tippett, Laughton, Desnoyers, Wisdom, Allison, Laczynski, you can roll 4 good lines.
Same on defense, where you might have Zamula, Hogberg, Attard, as your 3rd pair.

You say that, but who else is going to give him 8 years at 10 million? We will trade a draft pick at the draft to be able to negotiate with him prior to the signing period. That's how we get 8 years. And only Fletcher is dumb enough to offer him that much.
Can't give him 8 years no matter what. Wasn't on the team at the trade deadline.

You do realize that this team was in Coyotes territory this year right?

The draft isn't rigged. The Flyers won it in 2017.

I’m ok with a D first coach and players. We aren’t going to outscore Tampa and the Avs. Probably best to be the best defensive team than the best offensive. Good to go opposite everyone else.

Honestly, I'm starting to lean that we might go for Montgomery just because of him going deeper into the playoffs now with his PP and PK being successful with the Blues. I feel like he has the kind of experience that would be good for the people on this team. A coach that can help lift up the team to be better over time and knows what it can take to be winners. Not saying he's a guaranteed cup, but it feels like he might be someone that could help this team overall.
