Trotz is going to have much better options than the Flyers Tire Fire.

Edmonton is a possibility if they lose in the 1st to LA. Woodcroft is just Interim at the moment.

Yzerman will likely be interested in bringing him into Detroit.

I would think Winnipeg will have interest and I would consider them a better option that Philly as well. Those are just off the top of my head.

They have some horrific contracts, but are we really going to say that has been a bottom 1/3 of the league roster the last 3 seasons? Barzal is more talented than anyone on this roster. I think most people would take their top pair and goalies also. Brock Nelson, Lee, Dobson, PGP...Now they are likely to suffer a fall from grace because of an aging core, bad contracts, and a lack of young ELC talent but he had a lot more to work with there then he will here. Look who is running the show here. If his last 15 years in the league are any indication Chuck Fletcher isn't going to be creating a talent-full lineup himself.

If you want to bring in a retread, at least make sure they are actually impactful and not just dependent on goalies making saves.
Do people honestly think our roster is better than (an admittedly aging) NYI roster? As you pointed out, Barzal alone is better than every single player on the Flyers.

The Flyers' roster is putrid, and this year's record proves that.

One can complain about a few things regarding Trotz's coaching style but the guy has structure to the play of his teams and they win. It's not my preference in play but it is successful to a degree. His record with the Isles is not bad considering how the schedule was stacked against them.
What concerns me is his moving from Nashville to Washington and now the Isles. Is he one of these inflexible guys where it's his way or the highway and he clashes with the FO?

Nashville stuck with him forever, Washington let him go because they're cheap, Lou needs a scapegoat that isn't him.

Trotz gets deficient rosters to overperform, but he's not a miracle worker. Best case is that he extends how long Fletcher is allowed to destroy the team.

i'd go

1. Boudreau (if available)
2. Montgomery

large gap

3. Julien

grand canyon sized gap

4. Trotz
5. Torts
6. Tocchet

gap the size of the solar system

7. Quenneville
8. Tippett

gap the size of the visible universe

9. Maurice
10. Yeo

It’s going vac to be hard to find a coach the majority of us will like. That said, they need find a guy who will have them a lot play with structure. Because what we have watched lately is unacceptable.
That is where I am at. The time to get a high offense, skill first coach is gone. That needed to happen when G, Jake, and Ghost were here.

Theyre basically a team of solid middle 6 players right now. Guys like that thrive in structured systems like Trotz'....and fail when theyre forced to rely on their individual skill and creativity...which they dont have enough of. This team hasnt had any structure in 2 years...which is ehy it seems like there are so many glaring individual mistakes.

A Trotz team isnt my ideal team...but of all the realistic options out there, hes the best one.

My worry with Trotz is:

-he will move the needle in a positive direction, though not into contender level

-this will prevent the team from picking high in the draft, but the illusion of true improvement will extend Fletcher's tenure

I would take Trotz in a heartbeat. Broadly speaking…. defense wins in the playoffs and we need structure no matter how badly we want to be offensively entertained. I want Trotz.

As far as Barzel being better than our entire roster…. I’d put money that a healthy Couturier would shut down and frustrate Barzel more times than not. Not saying Barzel isn’t dynamic but defense trumps offense.

Our primary goal should be build from the net out. We don’t have the goal scorers to make enough of a difference to overcome our lapses. Until we get lucky enough to have five dominant forwards on our roster FIX THE DEFENSE!

Give me Trotz.

This just prolongs our pain. Yes, Chuck is absolutely building a team of middle (bottom?) 6 try hards right now. There's no path to a championship in that. We have to bottom out. We have to change our direction as an organization and catch up to where the league is at. Trotz doesn't accomplish that. If there's one guy out there who could eek them into the playoffs, it's him. I want so much more than eeking into the playoffs.
