I believe they should look into Jack Bar for the 2nd and Joey Pierce for the 5th or 6th.
I have nothing other than it's just a gut feeling. Sorry if that's not a good enough answer. What do you see in Jack Bar? He'll be one of the oldest players drafted, his production on a juggernaut isn't anything to write home about, and he doesn't exactly have any "standout" tools (and struggles defensively according to reports). Not that I don't like him or anything, I'm just wondering why you're targeting him specifically. Am I missing something?

If we're talking about 2nd round picks, the guys currently on my board for us are:
1. LHD - Olen Zellweger - Size holds him back, but is a great prospect otherwise.
2. C - Joshua Roy - Major skating issues and lacks a defensive game, but has a nice shot with solid IQ and skill. Lacks physique too (just not super athletic). 3rd round prospect at best.
3. W - Olivier Nadeau - Good complimentary winger, but also lacks skating and is likely a 3rd/4th round guy.
4. W - Coner Roulette - Questionable upside, but still enough to be a solid middle 6 player.
5. W - Samu Salminen - People don't like his skating but I think it is overblown. Needs work and doesn't use his size but I think he is the best Finnish player after Raty in this draft (I am not high on Tuomaala) and he would be a decent project in the 2nd round. Nice shot and IQ.
HM:
C - Cole Huckins - Low upside profile. He projects to be a good 4th liner with size, but I have him in the 4th round.
W - Prokhor Poltapov - If he was bigger, he'd be a sure-fire 1st round pick. Needs refinement in a few areas but he has top 6 upside with a nice low end too.
LHD - Cameron Whynot - I like him more than Nause. More upside, but less refined.
LHD - Evan Nause - Has great IQ and is very refined, but I don't like the upside and I think he is overhyped.
RHD - Vincent Iorio - Lacks upside. Benefitted from playing on a good team. Might be a 4th rounder, but I have him in the 5th/6th as a potential solid bottom pairing defenseman.
RHD - Brent Johnson - A guy I think is underrated. Needs work defensively but he really progressed nicely this year and has 2nd round pick pedigree if people knew more about him.
And some other guys I'm hoping are available later on:
C - Samuel Helenius - Big, bottom 6 specialist type. He is raw, but he was respectable in the Liiga as a DY eligible player and that bodes well for his chances of making the NHL (historically).
C - Caedan Bankier - Nothing that truly stands out, and is extremely quiet on the ice. But if you watch him you see that he does a bunch of things that you need to win and comes out of nowhere to score goals and make great plays.
C - Robert Orr - Amazing name, underrated player. I can see him flying under the radar and having a nice NHL career on a 3rd line in the NHL.
W - James Malatesta - Plays really hard for someone his size. Shoots more than anyone in the QMJHL (by a lot), but only scored 10 goals in 32 games. Puts in little effort defensively. Really hard gauging him because there is potential for him to be really good (maybe even top 6), but there are also a ton of red flags.
W - Eric Alarie
W - Sean Tschigerl - Works hard, nice skill, but I am not sure he has the high end IQ that makes players truly special. I can see him having a nice NHL career, but it will likely be on multiple teams as a solid bottom 6er more than anything.
LHD - Rory Neill - No idea about him, but lacks production and is not big. Not a good combination.
RHD - Oscar Plandowski - IDK what it is with him, but he feels like low IQ. There is potential for him to be a really good two-way defenseman, but even playing on an elite team like Charlottetown, he seemed content just being a safe player. No harm in that, but he needed to bring a lot more of his skill to the table if he wanted to go in the first 4 rounds.
Just bumping this thread up since it's fell way down the list the last week. Also, hopefully Scott Morrow gets over looked because of the league he played in. Don't know too much about many players this year since we only got like 3 picks but he's one I instantly liked and believe is probably a top 15-20 talent.
Zellweger is easily my favourite pick in the 2nd. He legit might be a top-15 player out of this draft.
I think you're too low on Roy. I had him in my first for a little and his production although not great is more than respectable after getting traded. Reminds me of how people really overthought Veleno, and he exploded after the draft.
Nadeau had some of the best production of any player in this draft. Sure he was on a stacked team, but good players produce in juniors and he did just that.
Read up on Nadeau earlier and he sounds like something we could use in our system. Everything about him sounds like a great pick if Dubas and our scouts/development team think they can improve his skating a bit. Tyler Boucher was another name I might read up on tomorrow.
Player | D-Age | Height | Weight | Position | League | Team | GP | G | P | PPG | NHLe 20-21 | NHLe 19-20 |
Boucher, Tyler | 18.7 | 6'1" | 201 | W | USHL | USDP | 5 | 3 | 5 | 1.00 | 9.68 | 4.43 |
He's boom-bust. I feel like he is a top 50 (instead of top 25) version of Ceulemans.
I'm all aboard the Oscar Plandowski train.
His mom is a power skating coach.
Yeah, Nadeau had the 7th highest NHLe of the 133 players I tracked over the year. It's the kind of production that simply is too much to ignore due to some faults in his profile. I think he's definitely a 1st round talent that will probably be picked in the 2nd, but I simply like Roy & especially Zellweger more.
As for Boucher, he had good (not great) production this year, but in such a damn small sample size. I haven't read too much about him, but from what I do know is there's a potential for a checking 3rd liner with some offensive upside.

It may sound lazy and cliche, but there are styllistic similarities between Machulin and current NHL defender Ivan Provorov, or at least in terms of the high stick grip and powerful, short stride. Machulin is a very intelligent rearguard who not only breaks out on his own, but does so with sound intentions and effective short-distance movements through or around traffic. Much like Provorov, Machulin has that look as he deliberately moves up the ice where you just know he’s scanning beyond 180 degrees . Once he sees an opening, the gear shifts into a higher speed and the impressive stick work does the rest. He might be an overager, but he’s got an August-2002 birth date that just missed 2021 first-year eligibility. As mentioned earlier, Machulin is adept at creating his own shot and can turn an offensive-zone draw into an opportunity to showcase his agility, patience, and heavy, accurate shot. Although he isn’t as overtly physical as some of his fellow Dynamo MSK defenders, Machulin packs a heavy punch and can humble the thickest of opposing forwards with a stiff shoulder or open-ice check.
I am expecting a few minor trades from Dubas to get more draft picks.
Is anyone else frustrated by the amount of picks Dubas traded away at the deadline? Did the players he acquired even do anything? Wtf
