For what?? Trading for a backup goalie who suddenly started playing out of his mind?? Yeo needs to kneel down and kiss Dubnyk's ass before and after each game for saving his job. If Dubs played like the Dubs of old, Yeo's fired and the Mild finish 10th or worse in the west.

I was thinking the practice session stick breaking antics. Dubs gave them confidence, but, like Pekka, he can't score any goals by himself.

Eh Minny had the talent, they just didn't have any confidence so it just snowballed. Once they got rolling it took on a life of it's own. It's not much different than the start of our season, we started out hot, and the guys got rolling, once that belief was shattered they never got it back. It also helped that Minnesota got healthier as the season progressed as well, which once again was the opposite of us.

Poile is generally regarded well because one, he has been at it so long, two, because he generally doesn't get completely fleeced that often , and three, because he hasn't made stupid moves that left a franchise inept for season's on end.

I'm not a huge Poile fan as he can't for the life of him seem to build a cup winner. However, he is pretty decent at building teams that can make it to the playoffs on a tight budget.

No he can't, but having a sieve for a goalie wrecks the confidence of a team pretty quickly, because poor goalie play generally leads to losses, while elite goalie play generally leads to wins. Winning inspires confidence, losing destroys confidence.

The only thing worse than games that don't count is looking too much into what happens in games that don't count.

If they come out and sting several wins together and everything looks good, this game means nothing. If the opposite happens, well this game told us a bit more than we wanted to see.

Either way it's far to early for me to get negative, I'm still in that, Thank God hockey is coming, phase.

Seven goals on the starting tender ~5 days before the first game is at least somewhat disconcerting regardless of the preseason status

I feel for the 7 goals. Just keep scratching my head why PL kept him in there for so long? With his pre-game interview comment that they were gonna wait until the last hr to decide if he even played the whole game, it'd have been easy to pull him half way thru the 2nd (when score is 3-1) and call it a decision that had nuttin' to do with how the game was going... Or even end of second (when score is 4-1, guys are clearly disjointed and it ain't gonna get any better), and the decision can be a message to the team as a whole?

You guys here know PL's disposition/style, etc. - how does not pulling Rinne until after the 7th goal, with ~7mins left, and the decision can only be about his performance? I mean, 7-1 with 7 mins left is a tad too late to tell the team to wake up.

On another arguably negative note - any concern that the last two goals scored by the Preds were from new acquisitions Jackman & Hodgson? Guess I was really expecting the likes of Wilson, Smith, Forsberg and Jarnkrok, each for their respective reasons, really put in a show.

PL's only been here one year, so I don't know that any of us will have anything other than a guess.

I'm wondering if he left Rinne in there as a wakeup call to both Rinne and the entire team. Let them all suffer and all of them understand that such an effort is unacceptable, preseason or not.

The Preds don't really have anyone capable of putting on a show save Forsberg. We have to depend on a different guy getting a goal every night, so whether it's Wilson, Smith, Neal or anyone else putting a goose-egg on the scoresheet, it's not uncommon. Fortunately, we usually find a way to get some goals scored, however ugly they may be.

Heya, thanks for that. I don't have anything to add or question, being a Preds newb still truly wondering, but didn't wanna ignore your post - really appreciate the insights.

I'll take diff "heros" every night though, over all the eggs in a single basket or line that could get injured or have an off stretch.

Getting lit up the last two games of the pre-season stinks, but I don't think it is anything to worry about too much.

I am more concerned about:

1. Our center depth
2. Our third line's performance
3. The power play
4. Back up goaltending
5. Jackman Jones pairing

I am not ready to be negative yet, but these things do concern me. Haven't really seen a whole lot out of those middle line players to feel comfortable.

I am not thrilled with the center position. However, Hutton as the backup terrifies me.

I know you said middle line players, but I did everyone not on the top line. I may have missed a point or two, but other than Forsberg's game 1, most of the points scored came from the bottom 9.

Goals:
Fisher
Arvidsson
Smith (2)
Watson
Hodgson

Assists:
Watson
Gaustad
Arvidsson (2)
Jarnkrok (2)
Bourque
Wilson (3)

You missed Hodgson's 1 goal in 2 games played, so dunno if Jarnkrok's assist off that was included in your totals? At the same time, for what it's worth, the middle 6 weren't the worst where it came to plus/minus either.

if their name was just listed once, that was 1. I should have done totals for each one. IF they did not score, their name was not listed.

That's not all that surprising the first few games are always looking at the kids to see if any can make the jump. What was concerning was the last two games where you getting your lines together to start the season and the team craps the bed with the top 6. The opposite really happened this year the early games are where FF9 and Smith had there goals and the last two games crickets chirping from the guys that needed to make a difference.

Replace Jackman's name with Volchenkov and you could have posted this a year ago

Well if we're already starting out on the negativity thread I guess I'll chunk in my $0.02. I don't have a single worry about the team yet but am just feeling sick about Petey not being on the TV coverage tomorrow night. I don't think it's gonna go well.
