I meant Justin Townes Earle. Addiction took away a massive talent. Not a new story, but.....

Loved JTE. Sad story…..
Bless you for asking @GordonHowe . Gave me an excuse to listen to a few of these a couple of times today!!I've actually never listened to his work.
If you have a favorite, or a song that is well regarded, please post.
and let`s not allow the doctors who hand out prescriptions like tic tacs get a free passIt's very, very sad.
Ladyfan knows how Tom died.
Basically, Prince died for the same reason.
I will not ignite a political debate or discussion on this board.
I would only add, if you are interested in the topic, do a bit of digging on wiki, etc.
Search for the Sackler family.

Mrs. Number 8 and my wedding song......
It certainly wasn't a new song at the time we got married, but even so... a feeew years ago now.
I was punching way out of my weight class then.... and still am.

Bit of a sad connected history. Justin Townes Earl is the son of Steve Earl. Steve Earl (who had his own heroin/opiate issues) was very good friends with Townes Van Zandt (who has his own heroin/opiate issues). Steve Earl's ex wife did not like TVZ one bit because he tended to get Steve Earl into such trouble. TVZ died at the age of 52 -- technically of natural causes but clearly a result of years and years and years of heavy hard use of his body. Sadly Justin Townes Earl (who had his own heroin/opiate issues and was named after Van Zandt) died of an accidental overdose of ---- as if we have to guess these days...... cocaine laced with fentanyl.
Thanks for posting. I'm at work but will listen to this upon returning home.
I've actually never heard Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass. I bet this is a good bit.
The only album I've ever heard of is

I must tell you, a Herb Alpert record is something few these days would own.
Like this guy,
You might not have heard of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, but I guarantee you've heard something by them. Like this (off Whipped Cream and Other Delights, the #1 Album in 1965. Beating out the Beatles, the Stones, and Bob Dylan):

I`m on a non narcotic med for some mental health issues, had I not mentioned to the doctor (I don`t have a family doctor) I can all but guarantee I would have been able to easily walk out of the office with meds that I could easily become addicted to. My drug of choice has always been "more"
one of the most infuriating but real documentaries on the issue
well said, I am a regular attendee of AA/NA, can`t tell you how many addicts I talk/listen to when they share who said they were productive, clean members of society until they were treated for various injuries such as you mentioned, terrible shame and incredibly hard to stop usingAgree.
Will check the documentary.
There are many elements to the opioid crisis.
One of them, as you are doubtless aware, involves injured young athletes who receive oxy, etc. prescriptions while they recover. The prescriptions run out.
Many of these athletes become (surprise) addicts.
When the prescriptions stop, they turn to the street. First, if they can afford to do so, they buy heroin. If they can't, they buy Fentanyl

which is apparently forty to fifty times more potent than heroin.
There is much more to say, but I will leave the matter here. I do not wish to earn a board infraction for introducing the subject.
You're the Derek Sanderson of the board. I`ll be hitting the trail to a local high school Friday for a talk about substance use/abuse, been fortunate to have done this often in my time, if my message hits home to even one kid...it`s a win
“Your Own Back Yard” is Dion DiMucci’s autobiographical reflection about his addiction to alcohol and drugs, as he describes it “kicking junk.” His marriage with his wife, Susan, was on the rocks. In 1966 his first daughter, Tane DiMucci, was born. An addict, Dion was unable to be the kind of parent his daughter needed and his wife counted on. His heroin addiction was expensive. Even though he had become a successful teen idol by the age of 19, the ghosts of a troubled upbringing and spending a lot of time on the streets from the age of 14 had caught up with him. Dion had a religious experience in 1968 and was determined to get off drugs and alcohol. After he finally got off heroin in 1968, and left his drug habit behind, Dion began to volunteer at local hospitals counseling heroin addicts. He also became a better husband and a better father after going straight and freeing himself from his addictions. - Ray McGiniss Vancouver Pop Musicwell said, I am a regular attendee of AA/NA, can`t tell you how many addicts I talk/listen to when they share who said they were productive, clean members of society until they were treated for various injuries such as you mentioned, terrible shame and incredibly hard to stop using

I’m still shocked when I talk to people (and there are plenty of them) who don’t enjoy the Dave Matthews Band.
This came on one of my XM presets on the way home from work the other day and I was doing the drums on the steering wheel in no time.
I can understand your perspective to a degree despite being a fan. I’ve made the comment numerous times that you could swap out Dave with a lot of other lead singers/guitarists/songwriters and the music really wouldn’t suffer. Maybe it’d be even better. A lot of his lyrics are pretty nonsensical and so are the random noises he has a penchant for making while at the mic.I can't stand his voice and I intensely dislike the songwriting. Super talented group of musicians, though.
