Actually Tom seemed very friendly. He always seemed grateful to the fans.

Roy had that fabulous voice . Together they sounded great. Too bad only two still alive.

We played this as the last song of my Mom's funeral in June. It lightened the room and there is so much truth in the song. One of my favourites. The celebrant laughed when I told him I wanted it as the closing song. He loved it.

Oh, I'm sure Tom was friendly and grateful to his fans.

I meant, Tom was always an outsider; he wasn't your typical singer/songwriter or "rock star." He was down to earth, did not suffer music biz fools gladly, and had something of a chip on his shoulder, *possibly* because he was from the South. I seem to recall reading about either Damn the Torpedoes or his collaboration with Stevie Nicks, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," in Rolling Stone. The author noted that Petty had recently put his fist through a wall.

I meant prickly "in a good way."

Below: One of the Heartbreakers lesser known tracks, and a personal favorite.

Think of the social media saturated, celebrity obsessed, mindless consumer society we negotiate today.

Do you know when this one came out?

1987. (Select CC for the lyrics, though you probably know them by heart!)

Sensing a theme?

These 3 are OK but not my favorites by Tom.

He wrote a few songs for Stevie I like this one

Deceased at age 63. Cause of death unknown. Iconic because of Flashdance. Not my thing but she certainly played an important role in music. Beautiful voice.

I always knew her as Coco from Fame, the Flashdance thing was secondary.

I saw your post before I knew she had died.

I loved Fame. An unusually thoughtful film in 1980. Nailed what it was like to be young, talented, full of dreams, and an outsider.

Love me some Lily Allen.

Her first, which is hilarious,

"The Fear," released in 2009, ideally would have been written and released in 2003, as public opinion in the United States coalesced behind the invasion of Iraq. The song is not about that, but to me it evokes both post 9/11 America and the ubiquitous, corrosive consumer/celebrity culture that surrounds us,

And here's one for a particular fellow,

Lol that’s me!

Had the Itunes full library on shuffle today while I was working and this one came up. Hadn't heard it in a while and forgot how much I love this guy...

The True Believers was his band in the 80s. Used to see these guys a LOT in college, whenever I was in Austin. Always thought they were gonna be the next Replacements and then they just disappeared. This is another record that well worth a listen.
