Again..for me..this isn't about sending him to the Q .. the damage was done before today.

That's the key point.

He isn't ready for the NHL, fine.
He wasn't ready a year ago. Yet still they burned two years off his contract and managed to put him in a situation where he can't play vs men and develop.

You can hate on the kid if you want, but odds are, he's right... He can't develop in juniors, not anymore.

Europe is the one saving grace.

All I can say is you guys are lucky to have TM to sort through these player issues. They will get resolved don't worry. Just trust he will do what is best for the team and you will enjoy the progress.

Dear world:

"Prima Donna" refers to the lead female singer in an opera company, and is often used disparagingly to describe people who behave in a demanding, temperamental fashion, revealing an inflated view of themselves.

"Pre-Madonna" refers to the historical period before "Like a Virgin" made us all want to touch like the very first time again.

The more you know! :thumbu:

Pre-Madonna? Self centered? Not to de-rail the thread or push an anti Hodgson agenda, but CoHo went through this himself in Vancouver. Reportedly saying he had nothing left to learn in AHL, characterized by Gillis as a diva who created more problems than the rest of the team. Complaining so much that when he had a serious injury the organization didn't believe him. As a rookie, going to the GM about playing time and the coach about his role while his agent made it public in the press, essentially forcing the trade to Buffalo. Then, instead of trying to change his image, he holds out during contract negotiations. That all gets brushed aside.

So what has Grigs done thats actually worse or even comparable? He's refused to report to the Q in the most gracious manner, rethinking his future when the Sabres hit the reset button for the 4th? 5th? 6th? time in 12 months? He isn't crying for top 6 minutes or playing time, he didn't complain about being scratched or being on a line with John Scott, he hasn't said anything negative during his tenure, but suddenly every stereotype is being hurled at the kid?

I'm not saying he should even be in Buffalo, not that he has been given much of a chance, just commenting on the lynching going on in this thread, double standards, the Russian Factor being more applicable to reactions than to Russian players.

Completely agree. The Russian Factor does seem to be a big factor here. If he was Canadian or American I'm pretty sure the reaction would be different.

Sure his not been brilliant but his not been given the best chance to succeed.

Wow, I missed a lot in the last few days. I hope this situation sorts itself out. I'm not going to give up on the kid. And as others have said- emotions could play a big part of this. We'll see what happens.

haseoke39- I loled. Thanks!

What if this kid just really needs the money? He might be the sole provider for his family, or be wound up with the wrong kind of people back home? It might not be up to him to be patient.

"Really need the money"? He already has at least a million dollars, maybe more depending on what his bonuses are. He doesn't really need anything.

At risk of pissing off conservatives, nobody "really needs" more than that.

You really have no idea what Khabarovsk can be about or what I mean, let me just call it a Russian factor.

Healy has nothing good to say about Buffalo but with his beloved Leafs he has every excuse in the books. But to Grigorenko-maybe he will never be a top 6 player in the NHL despite his natural talents and NHL size. Still a young man in a foreign country with family 10,000 miles away may once in a while not have the best judgement. Not every poster here can say they at 19 or 20 never screwed up or wanted to do something that was wrong for them at the time. He has not done anything illegal or dangerous so let it play out. He lives in a fish bowl where everything is played out big-let it rest a bit and let good advice and better judgement guide him. This is also a test in asset management for our new high priced Sabres moguls.

Enlighten me.

Even if I think it is far more likely that the kid is more worried about his own development than Buffalos, and that is the whole story, my experience from that part of the world is that having money also make you a target.

l should not have written anything, as I do not really want to follow through on this. we just rarely know the full story.

These folks would be crapping on Grigs if he was Oshawa instead of Khabarovsk. Him being Russian has nothing to do with anything.

Tell me I wasn't the only one who found myself watching Yakov Smirnoff on YouTube after reading this.

I could only imagine what other prospects in Sabres organization thinks.

Since last season, most of them probably thought about how much better than him they were, and how politics is the only reason he is in the show.

After seeing this, other prospects are probably happy politics aren't running the show anymore.

Good job Darcy, this is a huge mess of his doing.

Hey i need some money too, can i sit on the bench for the sabres?

Really don't get people who think he can't learn anything in juniors now. Many good players stayed there for 2 years and more. Getting 20 minutes of ice time instead of 10 in the nhl may help too.

I think there's a better than 50% chance he's played his last game for the Sabres. Murray doesn't strike me as the type of guy who believes the team has to negotiate with a 19 year old and his agent regarding the organization's plan for the player's development. If he does play in Buffalo again, I'd imagine it's akin to the Coyotes/Turris situation where the team wanted him to play again so that he could bolster his value, and I'd expect a trade soon thereafter.

Have the Sabres posted anything official? Other than they talked to him for a while before this even went down. Some passive aggressive comment like, "we support and understand Mikhail's feelings through this tough time, nobody like's to be told to be they need to go to juniors, but per the our contract with him and the NHL's agreement with CHL this is our only option for his development since we do not believe he is ready for the NHL." Maybe not throw in the NHL-CHL but definitely remind him he is under contract with us.

If only he fought for puck control with this sort of verve.

The kid is out to lunch -- he's shown he's not ready to be an NHLer and in this system, the step to be taken is to go back to a level he is allowed to play at and show improvement in the areas of his game that need it.

Grigorenko and this year's first rounder for MacKinnon.

See how much Roy loves him now.
