He wants to stay and play for the Sabres instead of wasting time in the juniors I see no problem with this, they've already wasted another year of his entry contract so its not money based. You want to earn ice time, you need opportunity to earn it. Leino is a sack of **** so he can have his spot as far as I'm concerned. He should've been in the juniors all along but at this point after having played so many games in the NHL I cannot blame him. Even with his 2 goals he has outscored half of our forwards....and thats hardly playing any minutes and rotting on the 4th line when hes not scratched.

There are so many turd sandwiches on this team and there is seriously no spot for him? Honestly **** Sabres management for mishandling him so badly, if hes goin to the KHL or somewhere else then I wish him luck.

Who should Kevin "draft guru" Devine taken instead? Was Forsberg there?

At least we got Girgs... I'd trade 2 firsts for him right now so its a wash.

Can the Sabres walk away from their contract with Grigorenko if he refuses to report to the junior team in Quebec? If so, might this be precisely what they had hoped for?

Have you ever turned down free money? Wasting a 1st round pick like this is just terrible asset management. He is also 19 years old, im worried that we wont be able to resign him.

It's managements fault he skates slower than molasses?

Read his facebook post. Seemed nice, not presumptuous. Hopefully he's just scared ****less about his career right now and doing some kneejerk garbage.

This incident made me recall Roy's critique of Grigs. Roy said he didn't compete hard enough, but the problem was that Grigs thought he was competing hard enough. I don't think the kid gets it. I think he believes he should be playing in the NHL right now.

I can only hope they trade him before he confirms that he's the bust I suspect he is.

Wait, now Grigs is suddenly lazy and useless? and when did he ever say he deserved a spot in the top 6? When has he ever said anything negative about the organization at all? He doesn't muck it up in the corners, that doesn't make him lazy and it is not like thats unique to him. There are plenty of soft floaters on this roster, there is a player we traded for that went against his prior teams developmental vision. Can't blame Grigs at all for this reaction. It suits the actions of the Sabres organization, this is how to build a tank that lasts a decade.

This is really bad news.

I don't know what you could get for the kid, but I bet Murray's getting some calls tonight, hoping they can buy low.

Grigorenko has been jerked around. Ted Nolan should have had some brains between his ears to realize his job was not to win, it was to develop. And Murray should have taken better stock of the situation before making this decision.

I'm fearing that now there's probably nothing for the Sabres to do but lose a big piece of the rebuild for half price.

I think he's going to bust, so I never saw him as a huge piece of the rebuild.

Vanek skated slower than molasses too and I don't recall many people having a problem with him. Positional awareness and knowing where the play is developing can make up for speed, if he was lacking in that he would have far worse than a -3 +-...which is near the top for our garbage team.

Question for the group...While Tim might not be a fan of Russians he was part of an organization who traded for a player who pulled a similar stunt...Kyle Turris.

Are we really sure he will be so quick to move the kid?

If I were him I would be sitting him down and providing him a road map and what he needs to do to be on the Sabres roster next season. Give Grigs concrete objectives to achieve and re-evaluate in training camp.

I get irked by coaches who have to square peg round hole players.
Lots of NHL players skate poorly...never hit anyone...show no apparent fire...coast..and play the outside.
All they do is score and help others score.
Grigo has skills. Grigo has faults. Why do the Sabres always load up with useless plugs but can't maximize skill players.
Miro Satan made a nice career. He just scored. Not a darn thing else.

I think they ought to buy off Quebec and get him in the A

It just baffles me that this communication isn't done with young players regularly.

Sounds more like they want to look at options (Finland, Swiss) and see whats out there first. Probably not as big of a deal as it's made out to be going off Elliot Friedman's comments.
