This incident made me recall Roy's critique of Grigs. Roy said he didn't compete hard enough, but the problem was that Grigs thought he was competing hard enough. I don't think the kid gets it. I think he believes he should be playing in the NHL right now.

I can only hope they trade him before he confirms that he's the bust I suspect he is.

Thats a big problem if he thinks he's giving it 100, but everyone else doesn't see him giving what it takes.

Like you said, he doesn't get it. It's like he is missing that extra gear needed for top pro level hockey or something. To him, he's in his highest gear.

IMO this is a perfect situation for us. The kid sounds hungrier than ever right now. I would sit him down, again, and respect his desire to play hockey. Put him between Moulson and Girgensons instead of Scott and Ellis. Put a hungry dog in a position to eat and if he knows how he will feast. If after a couple weeks he looks completely damaged have him report to Quebec and then when we sell off everyone bring him back up and ease him back.

if they dont want to play him in Buffalo and he doesnt want to go to quebec (CHL) and hes too young for ahl the only way i can see him doing is either being a healthy scratch for the rest of the season and then send him down to ahl next yr or trade his behind

They had better think of something, because if he's in the AHL next year and his entry contract expires he'll be in Russia making money by summer 2015. If we jerk him around, and then he still isn't ready next season, why on earth would he sign another contract with us.

I can't see any scenario in which he re-signs here.

So what I'm not sure about is how to fix that. I don't want to necessarily break his confidence because ehe needs that to be successful. Say the Sabres decide to play him 15m in every game for the rest of the season, and he puts up 4g 6a in 40 games. I've played in a men's rec hockey league that was way above my skill level, and being outclassed by people stronger/better every single game really kills your desire.

Doing so sets the precedent that pouting in this organization gets you what you want. Doesn't sound like something Nolan and Murray are into.

The truth is he's going to be a bust. It's been nothing but negatives leading up to the draft, and everyone made excuses, but he went from a top pick to what? 12?

Then we kept him in Buffalo last year for some reason, and it was a failure. Now he continues to fail, and have problems, and I keep hearing about effort as an issue, blah blah blah.

He's a bust. Some of you will say "nice crystal ball" or some other nonsense, but Its not a crystal ball, its just looking at the situation.

He's a dude who isn't good enough who thinks he is, who isn't trying hard enough but he thinks he is, and he's making more excuses.

My family is back in Russia me I'm a teenager = He was sick and had mono.

I get he's pissed because he's not getting paid. I would be too.. So as soon as he can he'll be in Russia making a bunch of loot he would never get here.

Has anyone asked what if that actually is his highest gear? Part of this might be amplified by being drafted so close to Girgensons who's on the other side of the spectrum.

Doesn't sound like pouting to me. It sounds like everyone in the world knows he is far more talented than the Q and he hasn't been given a fair shake by a team who is trending down. With all the *****ing this team does about not scoring, how about giving a kid who was drafted to score a chance to do so. Putting him on the third or fourth line is garbage. I don't care if he is a dumpster fire defensively or doesn't lay bone crushing hits. This team needs a finesse player that can finish and that was how he was touted. Give him a legitimate chance, if he fails ill eat my words. But putting him between Scott and Ellis is like putting mud tires on a Ferrari.

If the paperwork has gone through, it CANNOT be done.

Because he was sent down to Quebec after October 1st, his ONLY option is to play in Quebec until the Remparts' season is over.

There's no "recall". There's no "do-over". There's no "delete transaction".

If the paperwork is done, the only place Grigo can play right now is Quebec.

There's a difference between caving to a player's pouting and treating him like he is a valued member of your organization. The sabres aren't to blame for Grigs' on-ice struggles but they've jerked him around and contributed little if anything to his development. If he really doesn't get why doing the right things and saying the right things haven't gotten him what he wanted they need to make sure it's explained better to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks the sabres think little of him as a prospect given this back and forth stuff. It's understandable for a teenager with a lot of pressure on him to get defensive if he isn't reinforced well, and for all we know Nolan isn't the one to do that.

If anyone believes sending Grigorenko to Quebec will help his development at this point I respectfully disagree. Grigorenko is an asset to be handled properly. Poor choices made by now gone management have limited choices but unless there was a firm agreement in place that Grigorenko would report to Quebec sending him there is terrible asset management. To go from a few thousand dollars a week to a hundred dollars a week is going to hurt anyone both financially and as a matter of pride. This move can only suggest that the Sabres have given up on him. A first step in Murray cleaning house of Devine and the scouts who picked Grigorenko?

Can he be traded in the CHL?
No, the QMJHL trade deadline was a few days ago.

Doesn't sound like pouting to me. It sounds like everyone in the world knows he is far more talented than the Q and he hasn't been given a fair shake by a team who is trending down.
He may be one of the most talented players in the league, but that doesn't necessarily translate to being one of the best players.
Last season, he was really only dangerous on the power play because he was neutralized at 5-on-5.
That doesn't happen to players that are too good for a particular league.

Agreed. He's a bust. I saw it in his first games.
