Grigorenko has also played a whopping THREE (3) games since Nolan took over. No more than 12:47 TOI in any of them. Real good look he's got.

Refusing to further disadvantage yourself in a system designed to remove control of your own labor :xkiss:

He doesn't disadvantage himself when he gains other rights that at-will employees do not get because of his employment contract. He willingly gave up certain elements of control in exchange for financial compensation and other rights.

Sorry to break this to you (and 3MI), but there are this new-fangled things called 'video recorders'.

How much does he get paid in Junior?

Because I'm pretty sure it's nothing. That would piss me off. He'll be in Russia. Great pick Sabres.

Let's not pretend that because he signed a contract under certain terms that those terms are necessarily "fair" or okay or he really had a "choice" in any meaningful sense of the term

From Girgorenko's Facebook page, just posted:

I just want to apologized for the situation going on right now.

We just need to find a place for me where i can develop and be the best hockey player I can be.

I came to North America 3 years ago coming from a home in Russia where I never had a bed, a shower or heat...I work everyday to be the best hockey player I can be so I can provide for my family, have a better life... Because hockey is all I have, my passion, who I am.

I am so grateful I played in Québec with one of the best coach in the world, amazing fans, people and city. I got to play against great players who are now doing amazing in the NHL. I'm also so proud I was drafted in the NHL by the Buffalo Sabres organization. I love the city and people there. I love my neighborhood and I love the guys. They also have owners who want everyone to be happy and love their team so much.

Now I would just ask all of you guys to respect me and the time I'm taking to think about my career. It might be hard to understand but it is even harder for a teenager.

"that's the way it's been done"

Stop trying to sound like sound like an extremely intelligent labor theorist. It has nothing to do with this situation. It's about hockey. He didn't make the buffalo sabres so he was sent down to the ramparts. He simply wasn't good enough to make the team, and he decided to not report even though he was contractually obliged to. He's a 19 year old who thinks too highly of himself.

My big thing is that given everything -- if Grigo had shown that he belonged in the NHL in practice, Nolan would play him.

Obviously, he's not showing that he's an NHLer in practice.

It's just the irrational argument to fit a perceived injustice. If people really think that Nolan and the Sabres watched 3 games of Grig's NHL play and made this decision based on that, they they're deluding themselves.

They made a tough choice given the rules they have to work under. Either they haven't explained that to Grigs, in which case fault could be laid at their feet, or Grigs just doesn't care and wants to stomp his feet, in which case you could easily blame him. (Or the advice given to him by his agent.)

This fiction that poor, poor Mihkail is being treated so unfairly is just an absurdity though.

Let's stay on topic people. Namely, info on the 4:30 press conference out of Quebec addressing Grigorenko. The labor ramifications to a CBA are better argued elsewhere.

What about Ted Nolan leads you to believe this is true? The guy would rather play AHL caliber grinders than young guys with skill. He purged the team of young guys immediately when he got here. Only Girgensons was spared and they each other from Latvia.

To add to what I've already said, I'd like to point out that it's not a matter of him not wanting to be here. It's all about him wanting so badly to be here that he's trying to cut corners. Can't knock the kid's desire, but at some point desire takes a backseat to overall skill. Kid thinks he's there, but it's clear he's not there yet.

We can blame the old regime all we want. Fact is they never should have let him even sniff the NHL right out of his draft year. Now they don't have much longer before this gets ugly. Pretty soon it'll be past the point of him being willing to sit down and clear the air. Management's next duty should be to re-iterate to him that they think the world of him, know he's super talented and that his time will come if he works hard and pays more mind to what's being asked of him rather than where he is.

Grigorenko is just young and stubborn.

If you're playing hockey for no money what's the difference?

He had a choice. He could have not signed the deal if he didn't agree with the terms. There are other professional hockey leagues he could play in.

Good. If anything will spark a player it's taking away the $. If he does end up reporting, and he has his entire family to support over in Russia, he best work his butt off.

I think he gets less than $100 a week while he's there..... So wouldn't you be a little pissed?

Obviously written by his agent, but he is 100% correct in his actions.

Just so you're fully aware of his actions: if the official paperwork has been submitted, then Grigorenko is stuck.

He CANNOT play or practice anywhere but Quebec. The Sabres can't just "recall" him since he was returned to juniors after October 1st.

If he refuses to report to Quebec -- then he is effectively done with organized hockey until Quebec's season ends, and then he is free to go to the AHL or NHL.....when he is likely extraordinarily out of game shape.

I'll respect that argument. He's a kid hitting a roadblock that's not his fault, and there's nothing he can do about it. Let him calm down, hope he gets good advice, and see what happens next.

Nolan benched Leino for a game because he had a bad/lazy practice.

So can the Sabres allow him to go play in the KHL? Seems like a solution for both sides...then he'll be 20 and can play in the AHL, right?

Yes, there are other leagues he could've gone to to have value expropriated from his labor, but I'm not sure serving at the leisure of Russian oil oligarchs is necessarily a huge upgrade
