Broberg and Holloway are embarrassing the Oilers management almost every other night 😂
Armstrong looking like a genius for stealing those players…Broberg the only player who finishes without a minus while playing almost 25 mins tonight
Wow
The 'genius' has watched his team lose two straight games to cellar dwellers by a combined score of 13-3.

Man broberg is just clowning oilers management right now.

Blues lose 8-1 and broberg finishes the night EVEN with 24 freaken minutes of ice time 🤯🤯

I didn't think he was worth the 4 million per season but he sure playing with a chip on his shoulder with outta doubt
Plus Holloway scores another and was also EV much of the night.

They will never live this down.
Well, it is an indictment on an org to lose their two best prospects in the offseason because its so important to load the shelves with fill D and extend Perry, Ryan, Brown and throw 4M at Arvid just because.

If this org was even competent we would have SC's by now with a decade of McD and Drai.

Broberg was the only player on the team that didn’t finish with a minus despite playing the most minutes on the team
But we got some accrued cap space

Broberg finished with an expected goals rate of 21%. 4th worst on the team (Holloway was third worst).

On the year his current on ice save percentage is almost 97% and he has picked up a point on 100% of the 5v5 goals he’s on the ice for. His counting stats are great but they’re not in any way sustainable, he’s riding some insane percentages right now.

oh I'm aware of his poor fancy stats, they've been trotted out here since the playoffs where we were all told it was a total "fluke"
I guess the "fluke" continues

Losing the three mention above has totally changed the dynamic of our team.

We are older, slower and even less physical than last year if that is even possible.

With them and the addition of Broburg on defense I would say we would continue to follow the finals trend but now..........

The above with everyone else in a slump and we are cooked!

I went from wanting to match them to thinking massive StL overpay and now I’m thinking whoops big mistake.

9 of the Oilers forwards including three top 6 forwards - 3 goals combined

Holloway - 4 goals

You can't make this shit up

And a bonus kick in the nuts

McLeod - 4 goals

And an honorable mention kick in the junk

Foegele - 3 goals
Like i'd mentioned the Forwards we replaced with, Skinner, Pods and Arvid have a combined 2 goals. This is what the "offense being increased with these additions supposedly meant. That increase is currently sitting at -9. Add up all the others as you say and its a pretty shit situation. Curious about your take on Connor Brown now. Is this guy ever going to be producing?

Hindsight no doubt. But let's see how he finishes the season. He is playing with something to prove no doubt and is excelling at it....

Wasn't hindsight for many of us. There was ample concern at the time with the offseason and the losses of players.

It was a pretty shitty off season. No needs were addressed and we lost several players.

It started out well other than the perplexing McLeod decision.

Then they went a bridge too far and lost their ability to protect their own from offer sheets. They even used the old vilify the players trick so many here have lamented about in the past yet still bought.

I was hoping we were wrong, but lo and behold. I yelled as loud as I could. lol

It's pretty shitty right now but we have to let this play out a lot longer before passing full judgment, I was making that post out of frustration from the current situation but I think things will even out over the entirety of the season. The real tell will be how these guys perform in the playoffs (Brown included), assuming that the Oilers do make the playoffs as you can't guarantee anything.

What I'm pretty sure of out of all this is that losing Broberg long term is going to hurt, a lot. It's going to be really painful seeing him excel as a 20-22+ minute Dman elsewhere while the Oilers scramble for lord knows how long to find a long term solution as good as Broberg. It's going to be another Petry situation, maybe worse.

Wow
My exact thoughts in watching the game, a grin on my face and shaking my head, while contemplating how inept (to put it mildly) this org is

In hindsight, sure, it was more than we were willing to pay to even try matching,
But ,
They are not only the type of players we could really use right now and in the future.
What it really helped us do was to sign some more old and slow players
