Oh FFS guys.

This trade is a steal. MB went out and addressed arguably our biggest need, at least for the rest of the season, and in return gave away peanuts.

Gotta give credit where its due dammit!

Where does he say its not a good deal ? The question is whether this is a good enough deal to offset some of the not good deals he's made in the past. I know that everyone loves to put the most importance on the most recent trade/decision but you have to look at his whole body of work.

What you are arguing is equivalent to beating the defensing champs one game and proclaiming your team the best in hockey.

I'm not a hater, I dont expect home runs on every deal but if vanek walks ( extremely likely) to me this gets me closer to " meh" than it does to "good".

He's made the team better in the short term without sacrificing prospects, but he's also made longer term deals that did not, and do not, smell so rosy.

I just hope the hysterical criticism stops . Hopefully it's plausible now that Bergevin can get the job done.

Like I said to you about two weeks back "cautiously optimistic."

Today's move was great. It will restore the faith that a lot of people lost in this guy. I still condemn his offseason moves but this one's nothing short of brilliant.

Signing 1 rental does not warrant an apology.

If he signs him to a contract, that's something worth cheering about.

I'll bump this thread in 4 years after Vanek proved to be worthless / signs with wild ...and Collberg proves to be a 30 goal scorer with tonnes of heart.

Even rejean houle got lucky once or twice

Not worried about Minnesota , if Habs do something special over the next few months , integrate Vanek and show him a winning program things will take care of themselves . It's easy to think you want to be a free agent when you play for Buffalo and the Isles in their current form. Hearing a sold out crowd , Michel Lacroix giving the home town call, the other rock star perks it might change the situation.

tbf I've always been patient with Bergevin so I'll give myself credit for that. However I have criticized him as well but mostly because of Therrien.

Let's all hope and pray that Therrien figures it out because this team has a legit chance at the ECF this year with the roster and he needs to adjust his strategy and game management.

The last time I was so happy was at the trade deadline when the habs got Kovalev for Balej + 2nd pick. At that time there was also no garantee that Kovy would re-sign with the habs either.

Congrats Bergy!

Apparently Martin Biron (close friend of Vanek) thinks he'll re-sign in Montreal. Whatever that means, but I took it as he wants to play somewhere with a chance where hockey matters and Montreal fits the bill.

Lol. This is so premature, it is comical.

I'm all for giving credit where credit is due... but with Bergy in Chicago attending to family matters, how much did Dudley have to do with this?

Didn't Vanek play in Buffalo when Dudley was GM?

I wonder how close Briere was with Vanek and what he will tell him about Therrien.

Could Bergevin and Dudley get Vanek to stay if he likes European cities?

Can someone please take Vanek's wife on a shopping spree and a tour of beautiful Montreal so she'll get on board!

Thank you. :naughty:

I would usually agree with you here, but not on this one. MB needed to show the fans he is doing something besides signing old fading playing. He Did that here and did it well. Getting him to resign would be much better, but first things first.

Give the man his due.

I'm not defending some of MB's other moves. I just think that some individuals focus too much on the negatives when discussing other things. Claiming that he's still a moron without knowing what goes behind closed doors, and despite him practically stealing Vanek shows that people are still intent on putting MB down.

Of course it doesn't cancel out the bad, but just enjoy the trade for a moment without constantly hating on the guy.

If Vanek signs at the season's end, then Bergevin has made the best trade since the Habs got Oakland Seals #1 OV pick in 1971, that turned into Guy Lafleur. Only Vanek is already a superstar and would give the Habs another "Core Player" in their lineup. This speeds up the timeline to the Stanley Cup elite contender, with the upcoming Tinordi & Beaulieu joining the defence, the Habs are definitely moving on up in the Eastside!:handclap:

condemn off season moves?

were they that damning?

Let's see we needed to replace the secondary scoring we had from Ryder so we got Briere for 2 yrs - would you rather Vinny for 5?
Their production is virtually identical

As for Desharnais, i personally hate him as a player, but he is producing - not in the way that I would like to see him but he is producing.

As for the rest of it, The Habs have amassed depth, at forward, at D, in the nets.

We gave up a prospect that was small for a bona fide goal scorer who is about a ppg player this year

So whats so condemning about this year?

Emelin? tell me next year cuz most hockey people say its 2 yrs before you can fully bounce back

MB so far has done better than the 2 previous GMs, if you want someone to deliver a cup in 3 yrs or less find a team/league to cheer for with no salary cap

Vanek = CANCER

It will fester in the span of 20 games. Ask his ex teammates

Too much backslapping in habsville methinks
