Good god Marc, i'm eating crow.

He got us a first line player without giving our 1st round pick while giving a prospect that look to me like a bust!!

Well played.

It was a good trade.

BUT WE ARE NOW, OFFICIALLY NOT "BUILDING THROUGH THE DRAFT".

Fair?

No, not fair at all!

Gallagher, Tinordi, Beaulieu, Galchenyuk, McCarron, Fucale, not to mention Dietz, Hudon, Thrower, Ellis, DeLaRose, Andrighetto, Reway...

Trading Collberg, a 2nd and a 5th for Vanek and Weaver definitely does not contradict MBs comment on building through the draft.

I will eat those crow and i'll asked for more.
Sorry for those comments between Weaver and Vanek, but hey...it was time to built your team.
And it's time to go for more than one round.

You've got to be joking.

Did he trade one of our top notch prospects?

1st round draft picks?

Gally?

Galchenyuk??

I'm not saying he did anything wrong, we clearly won today and I'm very satisfied.

But this is the trade a contender makes. And I'm glad he thinks we're contenders but his previous moves and non-moves didn't really suggest that at all.

People defending the Briere signing as a "stopgap" for instance. But this trade indicates that we're clearly ahead of the curve in the eyes of management.

Im sorry I started to doubt you.

Is this thread run by the guy who dressed up as like the pope during the 2010 playoffs and had a kneeler outside the bell centre for pens fans?

I remember that year, I miss gill metro and moore :(

I can't believe how easily people are swayed. Whippiddy doo, he got Vanek, Vanek isn't going to solve our problems or bring us a cup. If anything, fans should be upset that Bergevin strayed from his plan.

At least, he got good value and didn't overpay. I'm content with him giving Collberg and a 2nd.

It was a great trade but it's clear that Bergevin doesn't have a set plan or direction.

From my point of view, Bergevin is following his plan to a T. Didn't he always say he would build until the day he thought it was time to pull the trigger? Well with the Eastern conference so weak, this might have been as good a time as any to make this trade.

Even if the Habs don't sign Vanek, giving Collberg (in all likelyhood a bust) and a 2nd rounder won't really set back Bergevin's plan of building from within.

I guess some will never be happy and will just whine for the heck of whining...

Wow. Posted earlier a Vanek/Moulson type was the only thing worth going after for us because they answer a huge need but I didn't want us to actually go after them simply because I assumed it would cost AT LEAST a 1st and A grade prospect. No 1st or A grade prospect going the other way. This is MB's best move so far as a GM and it certainly builds my faith in him going forward. Unless Colberg turns into the next Alfredsson, I can't see how this isn't seen as a crazily lopsided trade, in our favor for once. Kudos Marc!

First of all, you don't know if Colberg is a bust - in fact it's better and more reasonable to rate this trade as a future 2nd liner and 2nd round pick.

Secondly it's not that I'm complaining, at all, but it's that NOW all of a sudden we're contenders so I'm expecting more of these kinda moves and less Desharnais and Briere nonsense.

Before the Vanek trade you claimed that building through the draft isn't a direction. Now you're criticizing him for apparently abandoning that direction?

It took Mark to be at a funeral unable to use his phone to get a deal done. I'll thank Dudley.

Dear Mr Bergevin

I am very sorry, I said many nasty things especially between 2pm and 3pm

I was wrong, you are not like the previous GMs we have had.

I would like to thank my good friend ANTON for letting me vent and not thinking i was crazy

I believe that saying that this proves that MB has no clear plan or direction is absurd. It looks more like you just have a dislike for MB.

This is the trade a GM makes to improve his team. The fact that he spent a draft pick and a deteriorating prospect for Vanek doesn't contradict the direction he is moving this team.

Building through the draft is a non-direction.

Trading for a great rental is incongruous with signing Briere, for instance.

Just being critically aware.

Collberg is not a big guy and has slowed his progression. it's 50/50 if he even gets to the nhl at this point. A 2nd rounder in an off draft year is not that bad and then throw in has still get a 5th if habs do give up the 2nd, again is not much at all. Yes it's a long shot that Vanek signs with the Habs next year but then again MB has a good war chest for next year as some contracts end. ALL in ALL Habs are now a better team from NOW through the end on the year and the playoffs. FUN to watch.

I never went full hate mode on MB but I was becoming very doubtful and annoyed. He made an awesome trade today. That said, he has a lot of work to do this off season. We absolutely need to dump deadweight and solidify our lineup.

That deal was amazing. Props for it, most definitely.
It's one move though. I can only hope for more of the same, and less of DD-DB.

Do you know what Bergy's plan is?

Do you? Does Bergevin?

Did Ryder help our team? Did Briere? And why is this different other then both of them actually wanted to be a Hab and who knows what Vanek wants.

Other then maybe getting the EGG line back together I don't see any long term benefit that might come of this.
