If we get this Laine for 40-50 games plus playoffs. Look out.
Avgard . If you are the professor of Laine's first two years in Winnipeg good to have you back. I always enjoyed those comments. What the hell did I just read?
Perhaps luring Barkov away from Florida to Center Laine wouldn't be impossible? They are friends and have chemistry on International ice, so why not try it out in the NHL?....
Thus far, Laine+Stastny has been better than the sum of the parts but Stastny is not a long-term solution given his age.
I hope we can find a young center with near-perfect skillset to match Laine. Doesn't mean that center needs to be elite tier.
...
I'm not ready to hit the panic button on Niku yet. These boards have been complaining for 2 years that Maurice won't give him a chance and now so many are ready to write him off after 1 bad game?
So add about a minute to his ice-time, and still doesn’t look much different. Horrible compared to Scheifele’s and Wheeler’s ice times.Laine was in the box for a power play.
My point was they didnt get much of a look before POMO declared Niku a beauty.Heinola and Samberg are not banished. They are on ELCs so there is no waiver wire risk. In a shortened training camp with no pre-season games you don't throw away players you don't need to.
Wheeler is too old.. Nowdaws he is just medicore 2nd liner. Demote him asap!
I Don't have a problem with Scheifele getting extra shifts when we are losing 3-1 but Wheeler can't have that much anymore, he doesn't have the legs, at least right now. Hopefully Wheeler can get stronger as we go .So add about a minute to his ice-time, and still doesn’t look much different. Horrible compared to Scheifele’s and Wheeler’s ice times.

The Center depth would be incredible after the trade.
I agree about Wheeler not being out on the 3 on 3 but not Scheifele, he's our best center. Scheifele, Laine to start would be better at least until Wheeler hopefully gets some legs back. You can demote Wheeler alright, but who should play with Scheifele & Ehlers then?
While Wheeler definitely looked slow and gassed from time to time, I think he at least played with smarts and that's not granted. I like the composition of top-6 right now. It's just up to PoMo to play the 2nd line as a 1b (or even 1a) line.
Another possibility would be Ehlers-Scheifele-Laine, Connor-Stastny-Wheeler, but I am not sure if that was the optimal top-6.
Shame on PoMo to start with Fefe & Blake on OT though, but fortunately that did not go south. Those 3-on-3 situations just aren't for slower guys that do not know where their bench is.
His skating looks a lot less awkward and he's more assertive in retrieving the puck.

Scheifele - 26:21
Wheeler - 21:27
Connor - 18:14
Ehlers - 17:31
Laine - 16:20
Statsny - 16:19
Copp - 15:02
Lowry - 13:28
Appleton - 11:25
Perreault - 10:05
Thompson - 09:15

Re: Wheeler... Wheels could be on crutches and Maurice will still give him those minutes. Can't believe Chef played 10 more minutes than Laine / Statsny. That's half a period.
