PP time doesn't explain it.

Scheifele 5v5 toi 19:30
Laine 5v5 toi 13:00

It's one game -
If the second line continues to play as well as they did in this one game, you shouldn't see this type of gap going forward.
I wouldn't worry about it and I certainly wouldn't draw any conclusions based on single game numbers.

I agree to a point, Moe has had issues with overpaying his top line in the past so I understand why some are raising the concern.

Still if Laine keeps his play up he will get his minutes and if Wheeler can't get going I would hope Moe gives him less minutes.

Some discussion about ice-time - I think some of if was likely related to fitness. I'm not sure that Laine and Stastny would have been effective with much more 5v5 ice-time at this stage of the season. In any case, Laine had only two fewer even-strength shifts than Wheeler, and more than half of Wheeler's extra ice-time was related to his longer average shift lengths.

I think Wheeler will need to get his shift length back in control. I dont think its a surprise he looked pretty good last year with less ice time and shorter shift lengths.

Put this in Laine thread but had to post it here too. His pressers are hilarious, listening to him post game about first blowing a defensive assignment then skating slow up ice then faking himself out and scoring was priceless! And did he call Ehlers a b$%*tch when the reporter told him he was chirping him for not having a fight?
I want to watch him and Ehlers for years to come please and thanks.

The thing to watch for is.

Wheeler playing end of the game again.
Which normally are longer shift.

Then started the O.T.

I'd rather have 55 and 27 and Jmo to start the O.T.

Or maybe start with whoever didn't play the last shift... Wheeler,Scheifele,Ehlers and Morrisey all played a minute long shift to end the third. There's no point in starting the OT with tired players. 3on3 is all about skating and stamina.

Thanks for this. The top line for the Jets was dominant. The second line will have some growing pains no doubt, but with Connor and Laine they have that quick strike offence, so they will assuredly outperform their possession.

My comment was not in reference to Scheifele's icetime relative to Laine but about the logic behind Scheifele playing big minutes. Scheifele doubling up on PP and Laine missing PP were independent comments.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Scheifele played more. A player like Scheifele is going to lead all forwards in icetime on like 27 out of 31 teams.

Didnt get to watch the game last night (sick kid), so only going off live-reading the GDT and this morning's highlights on the NHL YouTube channel...

Sounded like Forbort's name came up in a number of the highlights, namely for making solid (possibly even spectacular, hugging the post on the fly to help Hellebuyck keep a puck out on the near post) plays. Good night overall or just lucky in the choice of highlights?

Really stood out on the OT winner, Laine deciding to skate the puck end-to-end gliding seemingly effortlessly as Monahan (?) is going full blast trying to keep up/catch him...unsuccessfully.

Thought Tkachuk's early tip and Gaudreau's goal were a little on the soft side by Hellebuyck. Feel like more often than not he reads those better.

Those 2 are game breakers. They are hard to find.
We are lucky to have 2 in the same team.
Advance stats will not be favorable to them some of the nights.
As they you've mentioned they strike quick.

Top line may be dominant in advance stats. But without 81 and 29. Jets probably lost in regulation.

It's not based on 1 game. It's how PoMo has always played his lines...

Like I said, if the 2nd line continues to play like they did last night, I can see that gap tightening up -
I don't really care what Mo has usually done - this top 6 may be a game changer - that's all I'm pointing out.

So last night I set the PVR while I was parenting and thought I would catch up on the game after the kids went to bed. The Jets game was not on any of the channel's at least not that I could find on Shaw? Weird I ended up recording the local black out NHL score board?

Glad to see Pate doing what I predicted (prayed) in his first game. Hope he continues to take over the team and lead the young core and they establish themselves as the top guys this season.

Glad they won its nice to get the 2 points highlights were great on TSN.
