It's things like this that get in the way of the rational "Kreider isn't ready for the NHL" posts. Saying Kreider is soft as butter is about the least accurate thing ever said about him.

Not Dubinsky-lite because he will be better than Dubinsky, most likely. But similar in style.

Kreider will make the team. He has earned a look in NHL games with his performance last season. The Whale is not a good AHL team and production in the AHL has nothing to do with production in the NHL. There are guys who score well over point per game paces in the AHL and spend their entire careers there without ever being able to crack the NHL and guys who never produced at the AHL level but are able to jump right into the NHL and succeed. I don't think Kreider's STATS in the AHL will even be looked at or considered by Torts in making his decision. Some tape of Kreider's overall PLAY might be looked at, but the stats are irrelevant. He will have different stats playing, for example, on a line with Nash and Stepan than he does in the AHL playing with non-NHLers and rookies. He will get a chance in the top six right out of the gate and his performance in the NHL is what will determine if he needs to be sent back down; nothing else.

Better than Dubinsky? Woh that is a bold prediction that renders little proof. Dubi is a solid player and can be very effective in different ways, Wait to see if Krieder becomes better before making such comments. And yes he has played a better game but over the course of a season.

Based on his play this year, it's fairly accurate. I haven't been impressed with him in the AHL either. Still a long way to go though.

If by based on this play this year you also are encompassing his AHL play, i'll take Beacon's word for it and say it's a fair, albeit IMO exaggerated, point of view. But the guy came to play last year in the playoffs and looked awesome at times. I'd say as a rookie his play should be somewhere in between- not this tentative, but not as great as it was during the playoffs.

He just needs to start showing a better individual effort, that's what I'm worried about. He hasn't looked fast. He hasn't looked dynamic. He doesn't know what to do, and when he decides he does it slow. He stands around too much. Torts needs to get it through his head he can be dynamic if he keeps his feet moving.

Kredier doesn't fit with that line, just plain and simple.

You don't get first/second-line minutes, you deserve them. Like Hagelin last year. I belive in Kreider, but if he's not good enough to produce on our third line, it doesn't make sense to play him over more proven players. Pyatt can score on that line, and so can Kreider.

Honestly wasn't paying attention last season: prior to his playoff appearance, did people have CK penciled in for a top 6 spot on the Rangers or was it expected that he'd need at least a year in the AHL?

See my next post. I think it's fairly accurate of what Kreider's done in the AHL/NHL this year. As long as he can work the cycle, he should be fine.

i saw glimpses of kreider looking good in the last game, but some other glimpses where he was horrendous. he's def got the ability, he just needs to find himself and learn the role he's being put into.

I think he knows this too well already, that's why he was caught with his head down. He has to learn this isn't the midget NCAA anymore, he has to learn to be smart. Can't get by on the physicality front on size alone in this league..

I feel this is the problem I have with him. Until I see anything consistent out of him I will hold my opinion that it is too much too soon. Torts even said it after his second game that if the NYR fans had their way at that moment he would be on every **** of every line.

You are going to be waiting a good long time for that to happen. Krieder is not going to be a physical player, not the way you visualize. He will use his body to his advantage the way Jeff Carter does. But that is about the extent that you will get. If you think that he is going to start to finish checks on every shift, you will be in for a disappointment.

It doesn't bother me to see him on the ice, even on the 3rd line. I mean who could fill in his spot on the 3rd line? Newburry? Segal? He was very good last year during the playoffs, he had a slow start in AHL but he may not be the most gifted player, but he has good hands and a very good wrist shot. He deserves to be there.

Honestly I think he will be ok on the 3rd line. i would have liked to see the rangers try and keep someone like Ruslan Fedotenko. The man has a ton of play off experience. He won a cup with with Tampa and Pitts. He would be a great guy to put on the thirdline with Boyle/Pyatt. Then Kreider could spend more time being developed and come in for injuries.
