On this day in 96 we traded Roenick for Zhamnov Craig Mills and a first that would become Ty Jones.
Thought this was interesting…
37th and 38th in career games played as Blackhawks…
Alexei Zhamnov with 528
Jeremy Roenick with 524
crazy to think that Zhamnov played more games as a Hawk

Oh and 36th was Marian Hossa with 534?

Zhamnov was traded to Philly for Jim Vandermeer, Colin Fraser and a 2nd…that turned out to be Bryan Bickell…who won the Hawks the Cup in 2013 with an amazing playoff!

Interesting that Roenick has a direct trade tree to Blackhawk Stanley Cup victories.

Toews has released a letter thanking the Blackhawks...but didn't announce his retirement..signing a one year deal?

Jay thinks Toews won't play this season, but is planning on returning next year.

If Toews isn't playing this year, though, he's done. No way does he come back again after everything, not at his age and health.

I think he's probably still in denial if he thinks he's coming back in 2025.

I don't think that will come to fruition. We'll get a proper retirement announcement next year.

Seems like a guy who wants to play but because of his health can't and is hopeful something changes dramatically to allow him to return to full health.

I don't think Toews is ever coming back and that at some point either midway thru season or next offseason he finally acknowledges he can't play.

Also at the end of day on top of health issues he isn't going to get any younger. Bouncing back from something at 26 or so is far different from trying to bounce back at 36 yrs old which is how old he will be next offseason

Pit Martin was a good player, but that trade was one of the worst of all time. With Espo and Hodge, the Hawks might have won those two finals against Montreal.
Agree! Pit Martin was a 2 C Like Stanfield. Hodge and Esposito were both 1st line level talents.
The guy the Hawks “had to have” in the deal was Gilles Marrotte who was projected to be a star. … ended up a below average 2nd pair guy who couldn’t play vs other teams best.

If Toews can get his health in order, he'll still be a very competent 3rd line C or 4th line C like a John Madden, even if he misses a year and comes back at 36. Big if though.

That main board is something else.

It would be cool to see Toews come back and be a contributor on a cup contender again but I'm not going to hold my breath on that. Last time he took a year off he came back a shell of his former self.

He obviously knows more than we do, but I feel like he’s just leaving the door open. It doesn’t necessarily mean that he feels very confident he’s gonna be back.

It's extremely difficult to take a year off, and come back close to where you were. The older I get, the more I feel like I need to stay on the ice to stay sharp. There's not much of a substitute for being on the ice when it comes to keeping your reactions, coordination, and mental processing sharp. Hockey is a tough sport in that regard.

I wish him the best, but it's probably a pipe dream for him to ever play in the NHL again.

He looked completely gassed when I saw him in person right before the season ended. If he can come back healthy and strong then that would be awesome to see him play even on another team. Best of luck to him.

Good luck to Johnny and the main boards and it’s virtue signaling posters can go f*** themselves

Not sure why anyone even visits the main boards at this point. There are so many potato-brained dipshits on there. It's not even worth clicking on it. I'd match my 3 year old son up in an IQ test against most of them, and he'd come out on top.
