He's not wrong. At that point Sharp was gone, Hossa was done, Toews was stuck playing with Richard Panik types, and Bowman traded Panarin for Saad to beef up the Toews line. It was a miserable trade, but that's not a knock on Toews.

It was a very stupid trade, giving up the best player in the deal by far.

I get it, Kane is an elite player who will produce with anyone while Toews is not and needs help but that was not the trade to make.

I hated how people tried to sell it too with Saad being signed for an extra two years...

You keep Panarin and you probably make the playoffs those two seasons, then if you know you can't keep him you can then move him and at least get a first rounder or something

Panarin - Kane
Debrincat - Toews
Trade the back then promising Schmaltz for a top pairing D.

That was the play, but hindsight is always easy. I don't blame the logic behind the Panarin - Saad trade but unfortunately you just cant justify the result. I think it ended up as a franchise altering move.

Your hate for Toews has gone beyond stupid.
Pepsi obviously never played the game. He just can’t see how unbelievably valuable Toews was...easily as much if not more so than Kane during the Cup years. Yin and yang.

One of many poor decisions that has led us here.

I thought that Bowman thought that Saad was going to take a step forward to a 65+ pt player and it never happened.

You don’t need hindsight, it was clear as day to me the second it happened that it was a horrendous trade, the so called "logic" wasnt very logical it was the opposite of logic it was stupid and I called it out back then…

Saad has missed time to injury as well this season. A rarity I may add.

I will never understand why some Hawks fans don't see Saad for what he is. A mini Hossa and he has been since he joined the NHL.

Maybe not mini Hoss, but a damn good player and giving 20+ goals every year. Pretty good for a 2nd rounder.

Mini-Hossa. Lol.... Not even remotely comparable. Mark Stone is mini-Hossa, and Saad isn't even close to Stone.

The Saad for Panarin trade was always going to be dumb.

The first Saad trade pissed me off more because Marko Dano was traded for after like a 26 game stretch where he was red hot. Columbus traded high.

If mini means nothing close to Hossa, and doesnt even touch him defensively, then I agree.
Hossa was one of the best defensive players in hockey but when it comes to playoff hockey Saad's offense comes alive. He outscores Hossa whose offense usually dried up in the postseason. But go ahead, keep dissing Saad and try to tell me that he is not an asset to any team he plays for.

He should still be a Blackhawk but he became another unaffordable core player because of Stan's cap mismanagement.

He is an asset, just isn't even close to Hossa. He is being paid about what he is worth now, he wasn't, before.

Also, Saad scores at a higher rate in the regular season, than he does in the playoffs. And he only scored 0.02 more goals per game than Hossa, in the playoffs. So, you're wrong.

Are you talking about career or in Hossa's days in Chicago? Hossa was a prolific scorer early in his career but that tapered off significantly. Not that he wasn't a valuable player but we all saw that Hossa didn't score a lot in the playoffs in his Chicago days. I repeat, Saad's offense comes alive in the PO's. Take a look at his contribution last season as another example.

One guy put up .73 PPG in his playoff career. The other guy put up .55 PPG.

Their playoff goals per game is almost identical. Hossa puts up twice as many assists.

What in god's name are we talking about here?

Saad as a Hawk 34 points in 67 games.

Hossa as a Hawk 63 points in 107 games.

Saad's offense comes alive in the playoffs....? Looks to me like a hot 10 game stretch is clouding someone's judgement.

As generally happens in these situations, people talk past each other because of a failure to define terms at the outset. It's not really possible to meaningfully debate whether Saad is a mini-Hossa without defining what is a mini-Hossa.

Maybe he’s half a Hossa.
