One last thing about the personal foul call. Yes it was a penalty but it was basically a hard push and not a vicious hit. Mahomes was out of bounds but only by a yard or so.

Yes, it was a penalty but I just don’t see how you can call that at the end of the game. When it is all said and done, that call decided the outcome.

Have you noticed the rise in shit nfl referees with the rise in sports gambling? Hmmm…..
Goes back decades. I heard Bubba Smith say, and it's in his book as well as a couple of others, that he believed there was a nefarious reason Earl didn't throw the ball to Jimmy Orr who is still wide open

It's why I find the NFL so much less enjoyable these days.

QBs can rack up yardage on the ground because the defense has to worry about whether or not they're going to slide, and god forbid you hit the QB hard when he's doing that. If you sack a QB too hard it's roughing the passer. If you push a guy, who is running full speed with a bad ankle, so he falls while on the white out of bounds line, it's a flag.

The entire end of the game was determined by penalties, not great plays, and that's way less fun to watch.

I think the NFL is going to have to move to a stricter code for its officials and also bring them on full time.

They should be compensated fairly BUT their next labor agreement should have an absolute ban on gambling of any type, with strict enforcement, checks and treatment offered for anyone with a gambling problem.

Otherwise another ref with a gambling problem, like Tim Donaghy from the NBA, is just a matter of time. It is way too easy for an NFL ref to influence a game, as opposed to say MLB.

This is probably true, because penalties are committed pretty much every play somewhere. It's probably the sport with the most gray area.

Absolutely, you can essentially call holding on pretty much every play. Be it holding by the o-line or the DBs.

It’s not as obvious in hockey but I hate the interference that happens on nearly every dump in when the offensive player is skating towards the puck and the opposing Dman skates into the path of the forward but away from the puck.

Football should be more like hockey and the refs should not call a penalty late in the game unless blatantly obvious. Let the players determine the outcome of the game.

Ossai hitting Mahomes was textbook unnecessary roughness on a player running out of bounds. That gets called every.single.game.

You call the rule stupid, soft, whatever, but it was blatant and 100% the correct call by the book.

Many other calls during the game were suspect.

i thought it was more a push than anything else. I also thought he was barely out of bounds. I’ve seen worse not get called. If that was a regular season game and a Jet QB no way it gets called.

Doesn’t matter if you call it a push or a hit - it’s against the rules when out of bounds like Mahomes clearly was, and was the correct call. Unfortunate but correct.

my personal deciding point is always "did the guy have a chance to stop and not make the contact" in this case he could have pulled up and avoided the hit/push whatever we want to call it.... i think mahomes was out of bounds with both feel by a couple of steps

i agree with Big L's assessment

Mahomes was out of bounds by a decent amount no reason to even touch him at all even if he did take a dive it happens in all sports. I agree with the poster above there is holding on almost every play and if you noticed offensive line gets away with false start a ton lately just look at Eagles offensive line get a jump a decent amount of plays with no call. Also whenever a superstar just throws his hands in the air they get a call a lot of the time after they do that. NFL has turned into a betting and fantasy sport only reason NFL will stay alive. If you look at the numbers you could win if you bet on most underdog spreads this year.

Without playing Fantasy Football this year, I am less interested every year in the NFL it just isn't the same anymore.

Same with NBA bunch of superstars playing 1 on 1 and complaining about refs and taking dives to get calls....

Not on Mahomes level, he isn't. They want Mahomes in the SB every year now that Brady can't get there.
Lol no shit he isn't, nobody is. Do you think the magical & mysterious they broke Purdy's arm because he's not a superstar QB either?

Do people really think MORE people will watch the Super Bowl just because Mahomes & the Chiefs are playing instead of Burrow & the Bengals? It's the Super Bowl for chrissakes, have the people are only watching for the commercials and Rihanna.

I understand by the rules it was a penalty. There are penalties on virtually every play. Some are called and many are not. I don’t like that refs can’t decide the outcome of a game. I wish especially in the final minutes of a close game they would let the players decide. Go look at that long punt return. There was a clear block in the back that was not called. Why was that not called?
