Tarasov has played twice in the last month. Clearly no trust there. We don’t know what kind of discussions go on in the organization.

Could be anything so I’m not making assumptions because you what happens when you assume.
What else could he mean by "something has happened" but he's not getting into it. Especially carrying all 3 now. Can't be good. Unless it's just a kick in the ass to Elvis and Tarry. We'll find out soon probably.

It amazes me how it is always everyone else's fault because Elvis doesn't play well. He was outplayed by his backups the past two seasons behind the same team. Maybe we should go get another goalie coach for him. Why should the head coach be protecting him? He is getting paid to be the no. 1 goalie.

The Bruins didn't yank Swayman last night while he was giving up eight goals, and they also have a backup that is outplaying him by quite a bit.
a coach can bench a player when hes not playing well? but you dont think he should bench a goalie? weird take.

you dont give the guy credit when he plays well and you cry when he has a bad game. a new goalie doesn't fix this dog sh*t team

Not sure where I said a coach can or can't bench a goalie. As far as giving Elvis credit, I have when he has a good game. I said nothing about him being the reason we lost last night. In fact, I don't think defense or goaltending played as big a part in losing last night as the lack of offense did. They couldn't generate squat, and couldn't answer back until late 2nd period.

I pretty much stay out of the game threads so not sure when I am crying about Elvis. I have pretty much held the same opinion of him since he's been here. Not as great as people think, but not as bad either. I see him as slightly below average.

I do wonder how it is whenever he is bad, it's the guys in front of him, but when any one of our other goalies are bad, its because they suck and has nothing to do with the players in front of them.

Well Tarasov has played twice in a month and is getting passed over for a start.

Maybe they both need a kick in the ass but Elvis could also use a rest in addition because his play has suffered the more he has played over the last week. Elvis has played 12 games to Tarasov’s 2 over the last month.

Keep in mind we have 3 games in 4 nights too so we’ll see how this weekend plays out and who gets starts. Will they each get one? Is someone still left on the bench? Who is dressing as the backup tomorrow?

Not disagreeing with your post, but part of Elvis' beef last year was that he was a No 1 goalie. Playing a lot of games comes with that so he needs to figure out a way to play better carrying a heavy workload if he wants to be considered a No 1. If he can't, then he is just another guy.

As it is now, based on the percentage of games he has played this year, it would put him around 55 GP. That's a lower workload for a No 1.

In average yes. But a 12-2 split over the last 30 days is more than most goalies go these days. Nobody is out there starting 70 games a season any longer like Martin Brodeur used to.

It’s a bit excessive and giving Tarasov just 1 more start during that period falls more in line with goaltender workloads these days.

Not adding much new here, but I'll chime in...

I was ready to move on from Elvis after all the drama last year, but he's played well this year. I'm not holding a bad game against him when the team looked like hot garbage for most of the game yesterday. The reality is that there is currently little confidence in Tarasov it seems. So, I expect the Greaves callup is more about Tarasov's play than it is about Elvis.

True, but I was thinking more like 60-65 starts. Even so, you still have to figure in playoffs also if you get that far. Bob played 58 regular season games last year, plus 24 in the playoffs. Vasilevskiy played 77 total games in their first cup run and 86 in their 3rd run, including playoffs.

Bottom line is if you're a number 1 goalie, and expect to make a deep playoff run, you're going to play a lot of games. If you're fatigued in mid December already, that's not good. Vasilevskiy has started 22 games to 4 for the backup this season. Bob is similar to Elvis with a 19-10 split, but is also 36 years old. Saros has started 24 to his backups 5. Vasi and Saros are pretty close to a 12-2 ratio of games this season.

Twelve starts in 30 days seems like a lot, but there was still 18 off days to rest. These guys are built for this and should be able to handle it.

As I’ve contested since day 1, he’s the same goalie he’s always been. And he’s seemingly been an issue in the locker room for the same amount of time.

I’m amazed that anyone can think he’s a good goalie. Players don’t change from bad-to good-to bad-to good-to bad again.

It’s been easy to see who the problem players have been and why the team continues to lose games.

While I don’t know the plan for Jet, I’m all for finding out what he can do in an NHL run and would like to gain some of that insight this year rather than waiting until next year. At this point, I don’t think Tarasov is the answer and I’m getting the sense that Waddell/Evason don’t either. Right now this team is searching for longer term answers at both starter and backup.

That's fair but marathon training is different than sprint training. Elvis has been ridden hard for the last month. Could this mean he plays better with a slightly lesser workload later in the year?

Maybe they were testing to see how he handled it. Maybe they did it out of necessity because they know Tarasov isn't capable of doing it. Maybe its all of the above but we are not a playoff team and I think they all know that. It's all about putting people in situations and seeing what sticks.

I do think Elvis is due for a rest to reset. Sometimes a day to clear your head and work with the coaches might help when the opportunity is afforded.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Tarasov waived or dealt if Jet proves he's ready for NHL time since his deal next year is a 1 way..

I'm disappointed with Tarasov. I was hoping he was putting it together at the end of last year, but he hasn't shown anything this year. It's too bad, but I agree that Tarasov being released is a probability.

if you think elvis has played well this season then I can’t imagine what you’d think of even an average goalie’s play this season like Logan Thompson for example.

He had a stretch of playing well followed by a stretched where he hasn't played terrible well.

If you take out his worst games, his sv % is respectable. It's really only a few games that make his numbers look as bad as they are. it just happens that 2 out of the last 3 games are among his worst. He does have a .96 sv% mixed in between those 2 and we can all agree the team as a whole was dogsh*t last night.

As a whole, he has been decent but a few really bad nights stand out. But society likes to focus on the bad and never acknowledge the good. Should he have been better on those bad nights? Sure. But I also think expectations for this team are too high when you consider what this team came into the season with and some of the biggest contributions on the forward lines from a 3rd and 4th defensive perspective are waiver claims and last minute training camps signs. The reality is this team is nowhere near as complete as the rest of the division from top to bottom.

Every save and every goal is different.

The “statistics” mean nothing. From the most simple, to the most advanced.

Let’s also NOT FORGET about players not wanting to play in front of him. What’s changed?

And if you take out his best games, his sv% is shit. I think it would work this way for a lot of goalies.

You're not wrong technically but there is a reason olympic scoring strips out the high scores and low scores to prevent outlier from impacting the final results.

But Elvis has a better sv% than Jeremy Swayman and comparable numbers to both Panthers goaltenders right now and I don't see people tearing them apart and calling them the sole issue with their teams like people want to lay blame on Elvis for this team's issues. Everyone watched last night's game right? This team has multiple issues.

The difference is both of those teams (Bruins and Panthers) are in playoff spots right now and we are in last place.

I'd assess Elvis as taking positive strides this season in both play and attitude.

Is he elite? No. Is he serviceable? Yes. Should the team try to obtain a better goalie? Of course.

Based on all the factors that I see, I view Elvis as a capable 30 games or so back up. He'd be overpaid as a back up, but the net cost of getting a back up similar to Elvis would be about the same should he be bought out.

I think he's on track to earn another year on the CBJ roster.
