with a ton of unlucky bounces too i would imagine he finishes between .914 to .921 range top ten in the league Elvis is nasty lucky to have him!

We're past the quarter point of the season and it's great to see Elvis is being credited with the (limited) success of the team so far.
Team MVP to this point.

New goalie coach, and cutting out all the 'noise' seems to have helped. Team D in front of him is better too.

Is it? Hes faced an average of 38 shots against the last 5 games. Hes straight up been standing on his head. I feared the relationship between Elvis/Manny changed after that unfortunate incident. I dont think that Manny was a bad coach but it was a needed change and Im very happy for Elvis

As much as many people wanted to trash his performance last season, (and it was very much mostly deserved) I think most people saw what he was capable of prior to that under Torts when there was at least a sliver of talent and structure in front of him..

The talent was there and I felt confident that Backstrom was going to be good for him. He's building some confidence and swagger. Now the team in front of him needs to stop forcing him to need to make 40 saves a night.

After watching the interviews tonight, Elvis thinks coaching has nothing to do with his resurgence. That's totally possible, and even if coaching helped you to become better, it wouldn't diminish the fact that you made the changes and stop the pucks. Nobody is stealing your credit, just helping as their job is.

Vincent suggested Backstrom has been huge for Elvis. (Hopefully Elvis doesn't throw a fit over that)

Goalies are weird. He might attribute success to some superstition or some change up in his routine. Like one day he poured the milk into the bowl before the cereal and he has kept doing it and he has been playing well. Or he started wearing mismatched socks. The new goalie coach has obviously improved his game.

We are an odd lot. When you’re on top of your game the puck looks huge and moves slowly. Of course if you’re off it looks like a bb shot out of a cannon.

I think this is picking and choosing quotes. Elvis said Backstrom has been huge for him mentally.

Of course Elvis himself put in the physical work over the summer when there is no coaching but being better mentally allows him to remain focused and this be in better position.

Everyone who has talked bad about Elvis knows he was a head case last year. The mental aspect of playing goalie is much more important IMO. I think everyone who made it to the NHL "Knows" what good positioning should be. It's all about maintaining the mental and physical presence to actually do it. It's not like Elvis was a remedial goalie who didn't know what he was doing.

How come I keep hearing rumors of trading Elvis (I've seen multiple posts online)? Specifically rumors swirling regarding Edmonton. I realize the idea is to buy low-sell high but Elvis is finally starting to live up to his contract and the team is having success and there is no reasonable replacement for him on the roster. Why would the team at this moment even consider moving him? Are these just delusional Edmonton fans starting rumors or angry CBJ fans who don't like Elvis and refuse to recognize he has played pretty well this season?

I've heard they were fighting each other today, him and Marchenko. Merzlikins is Latvian and Marchenko is Russian. Won't be great if it's something more than typical hot temper...

The Oilers had their goalie scout following us around.

Yes it doesn't really make sense.

Marchenko apparently tripped over Merzlikins stick and went down hard. Got into it, got over it and Merzlikins apologized. Whole lot of nothing

Maybe looking at Martin for a cost effective backup

Elvis Merzlikin (without the Latvian s at the end) is half Russian and speaks fluent Russian, he’s been a big friend of other Russian players like Gavrikov. No way there’s any politics involved

I had no idea how Elvis was going to perform this season. I was of the mind that if he didn't return to some semblance of quality NHL goaltending this season then a buyout was probably in order.

I suspected that the death of his buddy had a huge impact on him. Hell, I've been distracted for far lesser reasons and have had my job performance suffer.

In any case, it's good for him and good for the CBJ that he is providing decent goaltending this season no matter what the reasons for his revival are.

Elvis might not admit it but the coaching change is probably what saved him. Him and Manny were bound by grief and by moving on from Manny Elvis was finally able to move on from the incident which he even stated so this summer with his joker tattoo. I don't think people realize how important closure is to move on from a traumatic incident especially when Elvis was low key showing signs of PTSD which is perfect reasonable response for someone who witness such a devastating event.

where did you read elvis apologized? I read that nowhere.

Hey folks.

It seems like this year you are all pretty happy with how Elvis has played. Based on discussion on our board I'm just curious what you all think about the prospect of trading him. Fully understand if people aren't interested, especially since I'm obviously an Oilers fan. Could a deal around him and Campbell realistically be had if Edmonton really sweetened the pot or is it just a deal breaker?

Just looking for some firsthand perspective, as I was ignorant to how well Elvis has played this year all things considered.

Cheers.
