I don't understand the overreaction. They are stress testing Tarasov to see if he can do a large workload before trying to figure out what to do with Martin (and to an extent Tarasov). Can't go moving on from Martin and have Tarasov get injured 2 weeks later for the rest of the season and screwing over Cleveland yet again. We need to see if Tarasov can actually be the 1B or even a 1A. Can't do that if he can't even go a month workload without injuring or crashing due to the increase in starts. They did the exact same thing with Elvis like 3 years ago.

I wouldn't at all be shocked if Tarasov works 2 and Elvis works one for the next month. The reason Martin dresses is he probably not going to be playing much from here on out so this is basically his only chance to get into a game is if either crashes/burns. When Martin is starting to make consecutive starts then I'll start saying the sky is falling

I think you are right. Good post.

But don't you then dress Elvis as the backup versus the obvious odd man out of Martin.

I'm ok with Tarasov getting a stretch of a few decent starts if shows he's capable but they clearly seem to be pretending that a goaltending duo of Tarasov/Martin is an answer while pushing/punishing Elvis as an odd man out.

I get when they scratched Tarasov on games he wasn't starting because you don't want him coming in cold off the bench during a lower body injury recovery. However, Elvis hasn't dressed in over a week and hasn't been put on IR. There is either something wrong with him they aren't saying or they are punishing him for something.

Or he requested a trade and the front office is trying to accomodate him.

Wait, so he’s not the “MVP of this season”?

I guess we’ll just add it to the long list of things said about Elvis that turned out to be, uhhh…..not true.

Sad it’s come to this. I’d say nobody saw this coming….but I won’t say that.

So if buyout is potentially on the table, wouldn’t expect us to buy out Andrew Peeke (or vice versa).

I absolutely hate the way they're treating Elvis right now - I hope it's all just rumours and conjecture.

The fans and team that ran Bobrovsky out of town, now doing it to another #1 goalie. Shameful

Just agreeing with others here. Unless Elvis is hurt and they aren't publicizing it, it makes no sense that he is the odd man out of the rotation as a healthy scratch nearly every game.

From his comments today it seems that him and team have agreed to find a "new scenario" for him

Elvis' play this year has been good, this is not the level of play that merits a buyout.

Either Friedman is making poor speculation, or there is something off-ice that is a lot worse than his play.
Yeah zero chance they are going to buyout a goalie who actually has looked like he's getting back into shape after a disaster year. Some names with worse sv% this season than Elvis: Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy, Saros, Oettinger, Husso, Korpisalo...

i don't think they'll have too much trouble moving him. will probably have to take some money back or retain to make it happen.

Why? He's playing pretty well this year.

The whole thing is very bizarre.

From the "i'm not a backup goalie" comment I'd guess it's an ego thing as it often is with Elvis. He didn't like sitting for Tarry and got mad and said he'd want out possibly, who knows. And team agrees to let him, why not since he'd have some value right now.

A divorce is probably best for both sides. I like the guy and his character, and like others have said he’s played pretty well this year, but there’s been an obvious disconnect with him and the team ever since Legace left that has gotten untenable ever since the capitals game.

I feel like this applies right now to the trainwreck this organization is.

it's not that they don't love to win.. it's that they don't hate to lose.

Say whatever you want about Elvis but he's a guy who hates to lose and we are going to drive him out of town because the front office ego probably thinks he's the reason they aren't winning and that absolutely not true this year.

We seem to have settle that the reason for the current sitch is ego. Now we just have to determine whose.
