Hey folks.

It seems like this year you are all pretty happy with how Elvis has played. Based on discussion on our board I'm just curious what you all think about the prospect of trading him. Fully understand if people aren't interested, especially since I'm obviously an Oilers fan. Could a deal around him and Campbell realistically be had if Edmonton really sweetened the pot or is it just a deal breaker?

Just looking for some firsthand perspective, as I was ignorant to how well Elvis has played this year all things considered.

Cheers.
Probably nothing EDM wants to give up, I think they'll continue to roll with Elvis to see if comes back fully before they trade him away. It would have to make sense and with Campbell, CBJ wouldn't have a real starter (not saying Elvis is 100% back).

I guess you'll find different opinions on Elvis' deal, some would still like to move him, some would rather keep him.

But the value gap in a Merzlikins - Campbell swap would be absolutely enormous. You don't have the futures for it. Trading Elvis is one thing, trading him for a worse goalie is something that doesn't work at all.

You might have better chances moving Campbell to a club just starting a rebuild like San Jose, maybe for a couple 1sts. The Jackets aren't in a position to take on a multi year cap dump like that. If you move Campbell, then maybe Elvis goes to Edmonton for practically nothing, if Jarmo is eager to move him.

I’d trade Elvis and a third for future considerations. I am not taking Campbell unless the Oil decide to burn everything down and he is packaged with Drai, and your ask in that situation would be huge.

Being 100% honest with the optics of that trade it would require an unprotected first here. With that trade it signals that the rebuild is a failure and would need to reset the rebuild. After a trade like that Jarmo might as well put his letter of resignation in because it shows that the team is not ready to compete by taking bad contracts spite making moves to start moving onto a windo . People really need to temper expectations of a trade like this happening.

Even though Elvis has played better this year, he's been pretty inconsistent in his career as a whole. I don't think that the Oilers gain too much over Skinner and should Elvis go south (which is entirely possible) Oilers management ends up with egg all over their face (again) with respect to how they've handled their goalie situation.

I'd think that the Oilers would be best served to roll with Skinner and do a Trade Deadline goalie acquisition with a team with a hot goalie.

Just regurgitating something he tweeted in passing 2 weeks ago unless I'm missing something.

But I get it, I'd want out if my teammates left me at the firing squad every night. Based on how he has played this season put him on a team that plays decent defense and he'll have a chance to excel.

Let's flip him to NJ and I'll be happy. They average giving up 5 less shots a game than the CBJ.

EDIT: I also just listened to the talk on the podcast. He's spitballing and wondering. Move along, nothing to see here. No real information.

And go with whom?

I really don't want Greaves permanently on the big team until there is a solid #1 he can learn from while being a solid #2...Good luck right?

2nd straight start for Tarasov after giving up 5 goals on 29 shots and Elvis is backing up. Interesting. Is he still sick?

I think maybe they want to make a decision soon on which goalies to keep.

I could see Tarasov continuing to struggle and getting waived.

So basically a win is not a priority?
It's a young developing team, wins aren't everything. You need to know what you have if you want to improve. We have no idea what we have in Tarasov and know exactly what we have in merzlikins.

Also, just because they're starting Tarasov doesn't mean they don't want to win. Elvis has started plenty of games after giving up 4+ goals. You don't get out of a slump sitting on the bench.

Here is the written version of Friedman that came out yesterday. Seems more like he is thinking out loud than he has heard anything.

“Elvis Merzlikins was a scratch last Saturday and backed-up Daniil Tarasov during Columbus’s 9-4 beatdown of Buffalo on Tuesday. He'll start Thursday against Washington. There’s potential for a move, but probably not until the offseason.”

which is what 32 thoughts is to begin with. His thoughts often get lumped in with his actual reporting but they shouldnt

This is the third or fourth time recently that Elvis has missed or left a game due to illness.

I know he has a little boy at home and kids always have sicknesses and spreading germs, but my goodness. Something has to give with this.

Its not something you can really understand until you have kids. But even furthur than that guys like Gaudreau with young children could carry and not be symptomatic. Its pretty fun being a parent to young children. I know we think athletes shouldnt deal with this stuff but it ignores noone. If you decide to have kids someday you'll understand. I used to go years without being sick and now Im happy to go a few weeks or a month in the winter

I feel like there is something more to this that needs to be addressed either in the organization or in the locker room. Not sure what. Last time he was sick he immediately went on IR for a week. No questions asked.

Like is he legit sick or does he just want out from under this horrible defense and his runny nose is a reason to not be behind them.

I've always been a supporter of him and he has played pretty well when he is on the ice this season but it does no good if he just can't pop some dayquill and suck it up. It always seems to happen after the first period too.

Ok, this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

I'm bringing this post here from the lines & roster thread as it's being bombarded with Laine talk.....

Yes, I'm very concerned with what's going on with Elvis.
This official explanation doesn't make sense - don't dress your #1 goalie because you're trying to see if your rookie back up can handle a starting goalie load?
GTFO

“We want to see Tarasov will get hurt again playing a lot of games in a row, because if not, it will allow us to trade Elvis Merzlikins.”

I for one am SHOCKED that the front office that can’t stop stepping on its own dick is having yet another messaging problem.

I don't understand the overreaction. They are stress testing Tarasov to see if he can do a large workload before trying to figure out what to do with Martin (and to an extent Tarasov). Can't go moving on from Martin and have Tarasov get injured 2 weeks later for the rest of the season and screwing over Cleveland yet again. We need to see if Tarasov can actually be the 1B or even a 1A. Can't do that if he can't even go a month workload without injuring or crashing due to the increase in starts. They did the exact same thing with Elvis like 3 years ago.

I wouldn't at all be shocked if Tarasov works 2 and Elvis works one for the next month. The reason Martin dresses is he probably not going to be playing much from here on out so this is basically his only chance to get into a game is if either crashes/burns. When Martin is starting to make consecutive starts then I'll start saying the sky is falling
