@RangersFan fyi Hughes has a whopping 9 more even strength goals in his career more then laf

This notion that laf is a complete bust is tired and quite frankly annoying
It's the wheels. Speed is very eye catching and Laf is not fast. As for stats, I mean sure goals they are not far apart but with assists they are. They were both touted as playmakers and Hughes has lived up to the billing. The bust thing is a joke. He is still young. Disappointing however I think is fair to say.

For anyone struggling with finding positives, let me help:

- 4 game win streak
- W over Vegas (4th in NHL)
- W over Colorado (defending Champs)

- W over Devils (2nd in NHL)
- Kakko: 3 goals in last 4 games
- Chytil: 2 goals in last 3 games
- Lafreniere: 2 goals during 4 game win streak
- For the majority of game today, our top 4 was solid with 4 guys under 24 (Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider)
- Aside from against Tampa, game against Vegas was most complete defensive effort (blocked lots of shots, enduring and survived Knights 2nd period push)
- Igor has looked back in last 3 games
- Despite losses to 5/6 worst teams in league, we've also now gone 6-3-2 against teams we have played that are currently sitting with over 35 standings points (top 12 teams total with us (35), and we haven't played Toronto (42), Pens (38), Canes (36).
- W's: Tampa, Colorado, Dallas, Devils, Kings, Knights
- L's: Jets, Bruins, Devils
- OTL: Kraken
- SOL: Avs
- Disregarding games in hand or P%, we are in a playoff position right now.
- Haven't seen extended period of Igors best play, hope we are in midst now.
- Our PP creates at top of league, just haven't been finding back of net. Normally averages out.

Should be noted: lots of games with teams above us in standings to come, and lots within division. Crucial to win these games or atleast ensure gaining losers points (we sadly won't win every single one of them) as shoddy goaltending and some poor games cost us our "easy" cushion points against bottom feeders.
Now we need to get them against the teams we are fighting with, and more importantly the teams we are chaseing. BUT, we seem to play up to the competition so maybe that added pressure will play in our favor, who knows?

I think we can conclude, for whatever reason, we play up and down to opponents. God knows why, it shouldn't be this way with a team with ample veterans to avoid this, but it seems they are the culprits of the up/down play while the youth are our most consistent, continuing the trend from playoffs of them being our "energizer bunnies" that would, even if they frustrating didn't convert more, built momentum and frustrated opponents with play.

This is a great analysis.

Disappointed so far in Lafs failure to create for his linemates or improve his speed? Absolutely.

Bust? No. No PP time, 19ES goals last year. Like OG poster said, just 9 less ES goals than Hughes with less top icetime with top linemates.

Laf just doesn't have the speed to catch the eye for highlights or dazzling moments. He certainly needs to improve his speed, but he's not a bust. Disappointing so far, but plenty of time.

Can’t get ahead of yourself. Need to Win 2 of the next 3 and the ship has been righted… somewhat.

That would be 6 out of 7 and a possible 12 of 14 points after a dreadful stretch ending November.

17-11-5. 39 points.

Problem is yes, they are in a playoff spot but they’ve played more games then everyone. As usual.

If they are at that record they’ll need to go about 10 games over .500 with 49 left to get 99-100 points which is usually around the mark teams will need in this conference to get into the dance.

They need to continue this run to give themselves some slack because there isn’t any right now

I will agree his production has been disappointing, however I’d like to point out while Hughes has only played 29 more regular season games then laf he’s played almost 1200 more minutes then him in his career

JACK HUGHES HAS PLAYED 1200 MORE CAREER MINUTES THEN LAF AND ONLY PLAYED 29 MORE GAMES

Laf would have to average over 41 minutes a night in his next 29 games to equal hughes

And I agree I’ve been disappointed but when Hughes was having 2 point nights yet coming out a -3 and playing 20 minutes a game that’s what you get. Put laf in hughes’ shoes and he has similar numbers

We were two games from the finals last year

By fine I mean perennial top 5-7 team for the next decade
"BuT cOpP vAtRaNo MoTtE...."

They were deadline additions that helped create depth, improve play, and drive the run to the conf finals. Without the Kid Line, I doubt we get there, and without the deadline additions that line doesn't see the time of day.
We got through the majority of last season off of high opportunistic SH%, good special teams and Igor, before the reinforcements helped us improve underlying and play in general and become an improved team.

Every contender adds at deadline based on needs/capabilities.

This year we are a team with better underlying numbers (suggesting we deserve better than we've gotten to date), with an elite G, elite D, elite W and elite C. We can add to further improve depth at deadline whether that be top notch rental or just another Copp+Vatrano+Motte type committee addition.

I totally agree we will continue to be a top 5 team in the NHL for years to come. People are just off their rockers with negativity.

Curious why you think this.

What does struggle mean? Not win a round?
The playoffs are different. Things get tighter in the playoffs and more things are let go. They are a smallish team who may just find it more difficult to find time and space. They also have little playoff hockey experience which does matter. We will see how they do.

Did not get to watch. I assume Kakko and Laf are no longer on the first line and Kreider and Vesey are back?
I don't think necessarily that the lines are broken up again. I think the lines were juggled to get a spark after falling behind 2 goals before the first urinal cake even got splashed on.

I get that. I was just curious how you define struggle in the playoffs.

We still got our shit kicked in at 5v5.

Nothing has changed. This team is bad at 5v5. That's a major problem. Transition. Puck Movement. Defense.

Honestly, what does this team do well at 5v5? Seriously. Answer the question honestly

Totally agree. 100% We as an org with state of team were never in a position to get Laf or Kakko, they fell into our laps.

Most teams that get these guys have immediate openings and no real urgency for immediate ALL-AROUND GAME results. Hughes could have 2 points and the Devs lose 6-4 and everyones happy because he played 20 and had 2 points despite being a liability defensively.

Early on, A) That was never there for Laf because of Kreider/Panarin and B) we couldn't afford both him and Kakko top 6 RW on those learning curves when you are a team with Panarin, Zibaneajd, Kreider, Trouba, Fox, Shesterkin (and at certain times) Buchnevich Strome Trocheck etc. We had/have significant LT big $$$ commitments that we couldn't waste potentially playing our way out of standings pointd and W's for the kids sakes.

It would have absolutely been better for them if we did, but we coulnd't. So it takes them longer to develop all aspects of game and confidence. They're coming around, and other than the odd benching between Kakkos GTG and Chytil GWG seeing only one shift, getting more ice time at ES as 2nd line or split amongst top 6.

Highlight
Glad I could contribute.

I got to see 4 minutes of this game. I literally turned it on when the power play started & Trochek scored to make it 3-2....7 seconds later we score again. Out of nowhere my GF starts a massive fight with me because I farted six years ago or I'm not into the British Baking Show or whatever f***ing reason. It finally ends when OT is in progress & I see Panarin make the drop pass for that laser beam from Fil.

So as far as I'm concerned the Rangers looked like world beaters tonight. My GF on the other hand is probably still mad at me...for something I'm still unaware of.

While our whole season stats were still awful because of how putrid we were, if you split the season up into before and after January the stats are quite a dsignificant split.

Even more so if you split it pre-TDL and post-TDL with additions.

Well, for starters I don't know the stat 100% but we control something like 54% of gameplay and chances at ES....seems like a fine start to me. Control more than the other team. We lead the league in posts hit (finally one went in in OT), you regress us to league average, thats extra GOALS and extra WINS because we likely can outscore Anaheim 4-3 instead of losing 3-2 because Halak stunk.

Just reposting since its now page 5 of the post game chat following our 4th consecutive win and people are still whining and complaining...

I'm talking about playoffs. We were easily the worst 5v5 team in the playoffs.

We've been declining since early November.

If this team did something well... anything.. I'd have hope. We do nothing at a high enough level to be anything in the playoffs. Sure, things can change but I haven't seen anything over the past 2 seasons to say that's going to happen.

How can you not like the Great British Bake Off?
