The thing is Marner puts up more points than Point plus has been PKing.
"Curious Case" is very accurate for Marner. He's a top player in the League, and yet... he leaves you wanting more.
Talk about his points and goals in the playoffs. He’s lived up to that top 5 nhl contract he demanded in the playoffs when it matters right?

Point's contract was always going to be lower's than Marner. It's not a surprise or shock
The tax card is very real. He is making less but will take home way more than Marner still
Tax card isn’t the real. Google Alan Walsh Canada taxes

he’s one of the biggest agents in the game. He would know better then any of us fans

No other city gets as many endorsements as toronto when it comes to hockey.

Both marner and matthews make 2+ mil when i doubt point gets anywhere near that.

Add on how much we front load and all the signing bonuses. The tax thing is blown way out of proportion.

But Ben here seems to be a massive dubas fan so I'm not suprised he think this. Somehow there's always something or someone to blame. Never Kyle.

Why are you insulting Marner by comparing him to Point?
Marner's comparable is Kuch, thats the tier he is in. Both of them lead their teams in Points. Both of them were selected as First Team NHL All Stars. Unless you think Kuch is a tier above Marner but that can't be true.

Come playoffs, I'd take Point over Marner every day of the week.

Tax situation is very complex and not as huge as people think for most players. Just my opinion can elaborate more.

nope for the Leafs players that sign massive signing bonuses and have rcas its not. instead of repeating what I already said you can read my post there

How do we fix the imbalances in the cap system?

Also note that these players are paid in US dollars. If I was getting paid the same as my annual salary in US dollars it becomes more in Canadian dollars.

Definitely, but the Leafs also have a bit of an advantage as well. Look at the break down of there contracts. Marner is making a lot of money upfront. $16M last year and $15M this year. A dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow.

Marner bled Dubus dry (which was his right to do). He got the sun, the moon, and more from his deal.

You can’t reason with Dubasites. He’s the beacon of hope that you can suck at sports and run an NHL franchise. They’ll defend him to the death

Sure it is his right to do. It is also Dubas' right to trade him next year before his NTC kicks in and he has very little real dollars left, which has driven his value way up.

Aren't the leaders of the team supposed to sacrifice?
Our core reading that:

Yeah it seems like he represents some sort of "progressive" and "analytical" side that certain fans have fallen completely for. The results have proven them wrong but they just keep going.

I wonder if they will still be around after he's gone.

They’ll follow Dubas to his next team. They certainly won’t be busy playing hockey that’s for damn sure. Or they’d see the fallacy in half the stunts our current management and coaches pull
