Hayes on Overdrive is absolutely destroying Holl for that 1st goal last night and asked the fans if Holl should be a top 4 D-man for the Leafs right now?

Its debatable Holl should be a top 4 for the Marlies nevermind the Leafs IMO.
I can't imagine listening to Overdrive in the year 2022.

The team sucks, and also reading this thread it's apparent some people don't have a healthy relationship to watching hockey and would benefit from finding other things to do with their time that they actually enjoy.

My guess, the morale is low amongst the team because of what the GM dId in the off-season. Put yourself in their (AM, Mitch, TJ, JT, Rielly) shoes and tell me you wouldn’t be disappointed with what management didnt do.

Make no mistake the advisors, agents, and themselves ( AM, Mitch, Willy) are responsible for taking advantage of an inexperienced GM, putting them in this situation.

The team forages for scraps and this year the pickings were scarce due to limited cap flexibility. This GM has been proven to be a false prophet.

"We can, and we will"

I want this management group canned.

Mr Musk can you buy this team and gut it like you're doing at Twitter?

I dunno if it does for me even then. I swear we were more well rounded or had more to work with back then. feels like we are just so depleted, sure we got some nice prospects still but that doesnt really help us right now, and if we trade them then we are just risking more of our future.
Hard to believe in this team, I love them but I just dont think they even believe in them selves at this point.

kinda feels like we are back to the muskoka 5 except this time it's not the players that wont leave its us the fans and our GM who either don't know who to move or dont want to move our top 5. funny how we're almost right back where we began when the salary cap came into the league except this time we got a couple top 10 players and a few more prospects to work with... maybe
Crucial phrase right there.

GM has depleted us right to the bones.

It really comes down to that, competitive players tend to see other competitive players and want to be better than them. This team for what ever reason is looking for a lighthouse in the fog. Add a Gilmour (93) and a Clark (17) to this line up ... unstoppable.... nah who am I kidding this teams give a shit level is at an all time low... you could add a Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman, Jagr, Messier all in their primes and they'd get the life sucked out of them too. Do we need a Shaman or a Witch to rid us of this freaking curse of mediocrity?
I think this team need a Scott Stevens and Patrick Roy and they should do after that.

Hockey doesn't seem to be the issue. It seems like their are some that hate putting more effort in than the players. But as fans, they still have to watch, because they're fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs and that trumps any shite that is put on the ice.

Sounds unhealthy.

Prospects only look promising because up to this date they are envisioned by how they fit around the core.

We will be a lottery team if any of the current group has to be a go-to guy.

Is it a coincidence OP of the dubas passed the tests thread now prefers following dubas sad ass prospects over the best core Toronto will ever see?

Kadri had to go, all he did was hurt the Leafs, too bad he wasn't the player he is now a few years ago. He was given ample opportunity to succeed in Toronto, but failed.
He became the player he is now *because* we traded him. Needed something to wake him up and actually live up to his promises to stop going out of control. Sucks for us.

It's everyone's fault except for the guy who built the team

No he didn't. He scored 32 goals back to back season while playing in 3rd line

He was always good. He just got buried in depth. That happens

He was always that player.. he didn't magically become good. Only difference is he didn't get all the points.. his game hasn't changed much

Dubas and Shanahan are both at fault. This team is the most gutted it’s ever been.

Our defense is bad. No cap space. Goaltending’s not established this far into the rebuild. The same core has stayed after all these years of failure and continue to show the same mishaps. The core is definitely a huge part of the problem, as it has always been.

If only Dubas was able to separate his emotions and hockey business. Who knows what potential trades there could have been for some of the core players.

I’d like to see Dubas and Shanahan gone. They’ve had their chances and blew it. Incoming rebuild once again, the joke continues.

If you don't understand being a fan of a team, I'm sorry but I cannot help you.

There's a decent chunk on here that come across like they scream at their kids or wife after the Leafs lose a game. It's an entertainment product, if you aren't being entertained and it's significantly impacting your mood in your day to day life, maybe a step back isn't a bad idea.

The only season Kadri played 3C minutes he scored 16 goals. The only time he got close again after the trade was when he averaged 19+ mins a night in Colorado last year.

Nah, I don't believe that one bit. I think this place is set up for them to vent. I think you're misreading the situation in all honesty.

Not to rehash this old thing again( probably going to regret even mentioning it) but Marleau in particular was a fairly odd choice for mentorship.

The guys had a fairly "quite" career in the grand scheme of things, and had a very cerebral playing style, it's not as if he was an guy like Igilna who was willing to sacrifice the body or play agressively ect. And then you have the whole Sharks choking history (which should be fair isn't just on him).
It should have been Justin Williams instead of Patty. I hated the contract and term from day 1. They could have had Mr. Game 7 teaching these kids...but Babs had a Hard on for Patty and the rest is history.

There's more than a handful of guys who go on and on in detail about how much they hate every aspect of this team but will also stay up drinking until 1am on a weeknight to watch that same team lose twice in the same week.

If it was a cup final or important Olympic game that late, sure, but it's an October roadtrip against bottom feeders while we're in a slump playing un-entertaining hockey.

I'm sorry I'm not blaming early season issues again. This trend of playing down to teams is here once again.
This is all on the core players which the GM continues to support.
We need changes and it can't be the coach or be the only one. Either Dubas needs to change this dressing room or someone else should.
The Leafs have been playing down to opponents going all the way back to when DOUG GILMOUR was here...

When they're down a goal or 2, they look like they couldn't give the slightest f***.
They're like that at even strength, too. This core has always fallen apart when things aren't going their way.

On the plus side, this year I had zero hopes for them so they're basically living up to my expectations.

What would we like to see from the core before we can exclaim that they “have passed the tests” ?

PSA:
- Matthews' full NTC kicks in July 1, 2023 (no guarantee he will re-sign) - pending UFA
- Marner's full NTC kicks in July 1, 2023 (not pending UFA but Dubas decided to give him this anyway)
- Nylander's limited NTC kicks in July 1, 2023

No cap space
Squandered assets for 1st round exits
No plan
Re-build looks like a JOKE

Never have I been so frustrated by a GM who was given so much and done so little. An absolute JOKE of a GM

No, no, you can keep losing people and picks and just grab projects and hope it works out.

I said years ago, the only way this Dubas top heavy model works is if you have a steady influx of cheap young drafted players coming in. Last week I read it’s been years since we’ve added a homegrown bottom six player. We just keep letting guys walk and hope we can replace them. A Bunting a great pickup, but so many failures too, it always seems we are scrambling to round out our lineup, to makeup for the lack of cheap kids coming in.

Dubas made me stop watching the Leafs for a couple years now. Ask me if I'd not care about the Leafs 5 years ago and I'd laugh at you. He's insufferable. Montreal series was the final straw. ANd they kept their jobs. LOL

It’s becoming painfully clear that the make up of this core group does not work.
not much we can do about it this year but both Marner and Matthews needs to be traded for more competitive skilled guys. Before anyone jumps on me look at Calgary. They lost some of thier stars but went out and replaced them and are better then before.
also consider that there are some successful great teams out there and none of them have Matthews, Marner , Tavares or Willy. It can be done without those 4 if thier value is spent wisely on thier replacements

For the Flames THIS GUY might have something to do with it. No takesy backsies by Sutter btw.

Dubas assembled Boyz II Men. Well that's what Mitch thinks.
