The Core Has To Go

These same core guys that keep collapsing are never going win anything.

They're all super-rich super-crybabies.

More worried about how many zero's will be on their next contract than contending for the cup. Winning is an afterthought to stuffing their bank accounts. If they ever even thought about winning at all.

This is where we are at.

The team is becoming more and more dis-likeable. All because of the country club mentality that protects certain players. It frustrates fans having to watch a guy like Nylander getting away with SLOWLY learning what it takes to win.

While guys like Kadri leave, only to win it all on their new team a few years later.

At some point you have to question this core. Matthews was drafted in 2016. Since then they've won a single lousy playoffs round.

Cowardly, soft, weak, divas don't usually do well in physically aggressive sports like hockey.

Which is why I don't see these guys ever winning anything. So mentally fragile and insecure. They're all softer than baby shit.

If the Leafs actually wanted to contend, they'd get rid of a couple of these softies too afraid to go in the corners to take a hit.

Bring in some hard nosed players that really want to win.
I agree with most of your post, but Kadri would fit right in here with these overpaid babies. With his random career year right before a payday, before returning to 50 point form

Howard Berger still not happy with the Leafs:

If anybody knows about corpses, it's Howard. In this case, he is not any smarter than most of the poster here who know they are not winning anything rolling back the Corpse-4 again with Coach Keefe. Shanny reminds me of the emperor and his new clothes. Just a pure loser when it comes to running a team.

Howard Berger still not happy with the Leafs:

lol that was awesome...I specially like the way he wrote

Brendan must actually think it’s the fringe of the roster that creates a roadblock in the post season, not the Corpse–4. As the character–less quartet did, among one another, while embarrassing itself in the exit interviews with media. None of Tavares, Nylander, Marner or Matthews acknowledged a shred of responsibility for the fold–up against Florida, the eventual Eastern champion. They only spoke lovingly of “wanting to stay together”, lest there be inconvenience in their private lives. Like knuckleheads, management is apparently bowing to that command yet again.

Made me laugh then made me a little sad cause these character traits are not what I had envisioned when we drafted these guys and add JT. What a disappointment.

Just a reminder for all of those who are down in the dumps about running it back, Shanny says that this core is going to win a Cup !! Keep the faith.

No way in hell I move Power for Marner if Im the Sabres
Yup they probably would want to add Skinner if they'd even consider it.

After he took a team friendly the first contract, then watching Matthews, MacKinnon, and pretty much every other teammate above his pay grade he has played with go for the money, I don't blame him for going for the big bucks his last opportunity.

A smart soldier looks at his leaders.

And follows their examples.

Management believe in the core but fans dont. 72 percent support trading marner to get younger and cheaper. We need cap and a better defense just to win 2 rounds. I see empty seats soon and the playoffs showed Bettmans NHL is dying.
Ah, that's a bit extreme. The Leafs will remain a business machine, despite the frustration we fans may often feel.

Team friendly? He got what, if not more, than he was worth at the time even at 4.5.

I thought $4.5M was a good deal for a guy that scored 32 goals and 60 points.

And it would have been if he signed that contract after he accomplished that feat. Which he didn't. I only thought he did.

But I just doubled checked, and you are correct, he signed it that summer, and then went on to outperform his contract.

At least they got their money's worth on him I guess.

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your comment here properly. It's a little ambiguous mentioning the players with M-NTC that have a ten team no trade list or whatever. I can't tell if you are using it to justify Treliving's spotty trade history, or if you are referring to trading Nylander/Marner or Pieteangelo/Hamilton coming to Toronto, so I will address both.

Marner and Nylander didn't have trade protection until this coming season. They could have been traded to any team in the league and there would have been nothing they could have done about it. I'm also pretty sure the Leafs could have traded either of those guys to virtually any team in the league except maybe those at the very bottom looking to tank.

Pietrangelo and Hamilton were free agents and allowed to sign anywhere they wanted.

Both are also from Toronto/GTA, so coming here probably wouldn't have been an issue for either.

If you are using the M-NTC to justify Treliving's trade record, you may be on to something, as we all remember Kadri not waiving his NTC to go there.

I don't think it justifies his spotty trade record though.

I'm talking about players with modified NTC and UFAs, they don't want to come to Canada, Canadian teams are generally mentioned in 10 team lists they submit as teams modified NTC players don't want to be traded to.

Why would any quality player want to play for TO, Edmonton, Calgary, all Canadian teams, it's a real thing. UFAs of quality such as Stamkos don't want anything to do with Canadian teams, it was mentioned when he was an UFA that TO offered him something like $13 mil. per but he signed for $8.5 mil per in TB, he was also told he could make an extra $7 mil. per thru other means like ads.

It was also reported that Tavares left money on the table to come here....

The fact most Canadian teams are a dumpster fire right now might have a lot to do with free agents not wanting to sign with any of them.

Toronto can't afford any top free agents either, so theres that.

On the other hand, I don't even like living in this frozen wasteland where it's winter six months of the year very much anymore either.

If I could vote with my feet I would be in California right now too.

To some degree, but I don’t think Toronto suffers from the players don’t want to sign here to anywhere near the extent other of Canadian markets.

I’d also say Stamkos is a bad comparison. 1) I don’t believe it was ever a 13M, pretty sure it was more like 11M. 2) Ultimately, Stamkos is making about the same take home pay in Florida at what he signed for to what he’d have gotten here. 3) Choosing to stay where you are (Tampa) isn’t rejecting another place (Toronto)

The only money Tavares left on the table was on his kitchen table

There is some silver lining here;

The core has set SUCH LOW expectations, all of us would be genuinely shocked to see them go past the 2nd round or even make the 2nd round again.

Shanahan will be next to go probably next year or next 2-3 years when they get smoked again.

Shanny dosen't want the aggravation...I blame him & ownership. Only a serious fan drop off will shake up ownership. This is worse than pathetic..
.bring losers back with a raise?? It defies logic.

He cares more about the theatre and NYC's social life....what a disgrace

The Pens hired Dumbas as POHO. The NHL is full of dummies. Hell the commissioner has been running back the Coyotes for how many years? And then you have Parros, LMFAO. The only people dumber than the dummies running the Leafs are loyal Leafs fans.

The only wake up call is when fans get fed up & move on. Losing $$$ is the best wake up call..
