All l know is being top heavy hasn't gotten this team past the second round. l'd like to see a different approach.

Pens have Alex. Wonder what Dubas would give up to unite the brothers ??
You have been saying this every spring for the last 7 years. Lol.
He's had terrible takes in the last few years. But he's bang on here.
Rielly took a fair deal and was lights out in the playoffs. Why is it that it seems that most other teams’ star players either take less to stay with their respective team, or sign for the full term, showing their commitment to winning with that club, and yet, none of ours do either??? Just something to keep in mind.
Whats boggling is ....why cant ownership & mgmt see it? Or, they do & dont care. I wish they felt the financial impact of their crap team's performance more...possibly then they'd get off the elitist, high horse stance & remember they once had a winning tradition.I usually agree 100% with your posts but I have a bone to pick with this one. Frankly I find the Leafs' perimeter ring around the rosie non contact hockey boring. And as we all know you certainly won't win playing that way in the playoffs.
Time for a change.
You want to bitch about grit, you take out the worse forwards for hits and blocks. Fortunately for us, it is the same guy and his name is WN...your idol.3 balanced lines could be a winner. Say you had two elite goal scorers in Nylander and Matthews surrounded by hard nosed guys that can move and play with grit. Maybe even score 20 a season. Of course add in 3 good D pairings and a legit G.
Heck you could probably think yourself a contender with that.
Handsome / Personable / Kind Steve Simmons says Matthews will want between $14M and $15M a year from the Leafs. Then, of course, Marner will says, "I want the same".
With the Cap all but frozen, this is a recipe for disaster.
Lol keep Marner... Yeah keep the soft, small, mentally fragile, perimeter player who looks like a 3rd liner in the playoffs and is a top 5 paid NHL player.

Are you even remotely aware of this team and game? You crap on players far more gritty than Willy for lack of grit. The irony is rich because the whole team is grittier than Willy.
Even $12M seems like a LOT for Marner but we know how greedy he is and how highly he rates himself. $14M to $15M for Matthews is too much, although I am sure he will get it.If that is determined to be accurate they should move marner at the draft.
Leafs can't be paying a 30 goal scorer over $12mm.
That’s their bargaining chip. The Leafs are the only team they can ask for an overpayment so why wouldn’t they try?Even $12M seems like a LOT for Marner but we know how greedy he is and how highly he rates himself. $14M to $15M for Matthews is too much, although I am sure he will get it.
Assuming they re-sign JT at a reasonable price, those saving should go towards some depth, not to the wallets of the Big 3 who have never won anything.
If Vegas and Florida have proved anything, you need depth.
For what term. The last time they lowered the term to 5 years in order to lower the AAV to 11.634.Handsome / Personable / Kind Steve Simmons says Matthews will want between $14M and $15M a year from the Leafs. Then, of course, Marner will says, "I want the same".

Not sure. I just hope they play hard ball with these guys, although, I know they won't.For what term. The last time they lowered the term to 5 years in order to lower the AAV to 11.634.
We can and we will. It just so happens that Marner's new deal kicks in after JT's ends. Lots more money to go around. If that is determined to be accurate they should move marner at the draft.

LOL. Ranta scored 55 goals this year and is making 9.5m. Pasta just scored 62 and 115 points and got $250k more than Marner for 8 f***ing years and bonuses nowhere near what 16, 34 and 91 got. This after coming off a contract that paid him less than Willie Nylander. Willie scored 40 and is going to ask for $10m (LOL). Robertson scored 41 last year and 46 this year and got 7+m last summer. We can't compete with these proven playoff duds eating up 50% of the cap. Move them. If they are such great players, GMs will be lining up to overpay for them.Yes I am aware of this team game. It's called failure under pressure. That's the Mitch and Matthews leadership right there, failure. It's not got it done and with JT they make up 3 of top 7 cap players in the league. Do some basic math, 3 of 7 top paid players in a league of 32 teams can not get past 1st round most often, lucked their way through it 1 single time and practically got swept. Fantastic players they must be.
You should alias change to Dekes for Marner. Marner is a showy stat padding player that does not score. He's soft, the kind of player that the guy in your profile pic laughed at.
Let's see if they bend Tre over a barrel like they did the rookie. That’s their bargaining chip. The Leafs are the only team they can ask for an overpayment so why wouldn’t they try?
Maybe Shanahan truly doesn't want the 4 touched?
I still think one of them goes this summer but there is apossibilitycertainty that Shanahan is going to sinkorswimwith them

Not going to lie, was hoping a Panther would knock Mitch and/or Willie on their asses like they did poor Kampf a couple of times. They either can't catch up to them which I doubt or they thought they did not have to.I am not going to lie. A big part of me was really hoping Tkachuk would have absolutely filled him at the end of that game 4.

They could trade them - Matthews still has a year and Marner has 2.They can’t play hardball this time. The players are pending UFAs with full NMCs. The team has zero leverage this time around. Pay them what they want or they go to market.
