Nylander was a minus 3 Maner a plus 7 wining his minutes in the playoffs.

Not that difficult tp see or understand
In the second round it seems they both had 3pts. -3 and -4 respectively. Now are they almost equal players? Maybe against a more physical team Marner drops off to Nylander level. Must be. Ok so Nylander and Marner become = in a rough series.

You have been saying this every spring for the last 7 years. Lol.

He's had terrible takes in the last few. But he's bang on here.

100% how many of our guys check out after the first 10 minutes of that game? Who needs that shit ?? Our guys prefer the beach, golf course, vacations in the Carribean, and their cottages. "Who wants/needs to play hockey in June" ?? - Auston, Mitch and Willie 2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018

Playoff hockey has never really resembled the play style the Leafs wanted to play with under the last regime: high skill at a mid pace, mid effort level, overhandling the puck, self imposed retreats, and avoidance of dump and chase at all cost, small soft defensemen and cross your fingers goaltending has never been the road map to success.

Of the core 4 I probably have the most affinity to Nylander (if I'm Nylander I'm pissed I get lumped in with guys making almost twice my salary), but I watched the last Vegas Florida game just to see what's up and I've realized this core is just straight not made for the playoffs. Seriously none of them are true "playoff performers" Matthews doesn't have a second "world class player" gear he can tap into. Marner.... He's just not that guy in the playoffs, dumb mistakes, kinda gives me lil b**** vibes. JT is past his prime and ineffective most shifts, also no second gear, no drive, no playoff warrior in him. Nylander has 0 nastiness to his game and leaves a ton to be desired on defense. Nylander should be finishing his hits aka Matthews given he's a big strong man, but you see maybe one decent hit every series.

When your playoff leaders are these guys you're going nowhere fast. Six years of playoff woes and this is the learnings they have to show for it? If Matthews doesn't sign at a reasonable price I think you have to start looking at a major retool at minimum and full on rebuild as a worst case scenario.

Unfortunately, it looks more and more apparent that it will be the core 4 that ends the terror reign of the core 4. They'll walk as UFA or price themselves out of the team. Shanny will continue to run it back until he's shown the door. The day we won the lottery should have been the start of great times but Leafs management screwed it up once again.

I'm trying to be optimistic for change - even just change up the comfiness - huge off season

I feel for Nylander. Straddled with Eeyore as his center for years. Nylander is usually dynamite playing for Sweden, so it wouldn't surprise if he really shines in the right situation.

The impression i get is that they like where we are and they liked Dubas. Makes you think.

I would trade any and all of the core 4 for the right price. Tavares I would give away for free if I didn't have to retain. He's yours. Matthews and Marner are the heart and soul of this current team. The catch is this team has no heart or soul. And Nylander is terrific value at 7 million cap hit. Put that up at 10 and he's not nearly as appealing.
This is the hard truth IMO. It sucks given the skill levels but it is what it is.

yep take a look at Vegas And Panthers cap structure.....way way different than the leafs

3 balanced lines could be a winner. Say you had two elite goal scorers in Nylander and Matthews surrounded by hard nosed guys that can move and play with grit. Maybe even score 20 a season. Of course add in 3 good D pairings and a legit G.

Heck you could probably think yourself a contender with that.

When you put it like that......:eek3:

Anybody who knew anything about hockey knew that. It is why many were calling for the head of the guy who had visions of blue and white smurfs hoisting the Cup. What still puzzles me is that Shanny wanted to continue the charade. I just hope whatever spell Dubas had Shanny under is gone, cause if Shanny still believes it, we are doomed.

Except the worst, hope for the best. The pain is more tolerable.

My opinion is a mini rebuild. Matthews and 28 to Anaheim for 2nd overall, Mintyukov, and Mctavish and their 2nd round pick. We get their 1st round pick lottery protected next year if he resigns.
Marner to Columbus for 3rd overall, David Jiricek, Kent Johnson, Sean Kuraly and Next year's 1st Top 5 protected.
Nylander to Minnesota for their 1st, Ryan O' Rourke, Markus Foligno

This Team with the core four set a new record for futility. How many games did they lose to the bottom dwellers this year? At least 12 if not more. It came to a point where we dreaded playing the lousy teams because we were sure to lose. We haven't beat the yotes in the last 3 years at least. On Saturday nights we could be guaranteed to lose to a sh!tty team and not just lose but get dominated by AhLers and back up goalies. Does that sound like a contender to you? With all this supposed talent? I call it embarrassing. Haven't been to the final since'67 and Vegas with a bunch of cast-offs are going to win it in 6 years. Kraken will be next. Where do I sign up for this? Scrap this team and give me an expansion team.

I know it’s not going to happen, and almost everyone wouldn’t want it either, but I would be fine with trading as many of the core as I could.

The return we could get for our top 3 would be incredible. The Leafs could be completely rebuilt into a real Cup contender with those three trades.

The salary could be spread out so much better that way and we could reinvent our identity! I really wish Treliving would pull the trigger and set a bomb off!

That would signal a new rebuild. Not sure there is enough time for a normal GM given he has less than 4 weeks to July 1 when the Dubas gifted NMCs kick if for the guys he gave everything and did not get much playoff success in return.

A mini rebuild that would make our team better than it is right now. As you said though, too little time to make it happen. A real shame.

Let's pretend for a moment that none of the core 4 deserve any criticism for their commitment to win in the playoffs. It has to be obvious that the salary allocation to 4 forwards is out of whack and will be even worse after the players get their extensions.

Though in two seasons Tavares 11 mil cap is freed up. The core 4 will become the core three without a trade happening. Tavares only sticks around on a Gio level deal or a hair more
