It sounds like the discord comes well beyond Shanahan vs Dubas, and comes from much higher.

If you didn’t have concerns that our current ownership is inherently flawed, this paints a pretty bleak picture.

The piece we need to get rid of is Tavares, he is The Problem. He's on the decline, awful 5 on 5, a power play mirage and otherwise probably not the captain we need, but he's the one's that's most locked in.

The one we are afraid to lose is Auston Matthews, and I think they are looking at stability as the biggest selling point in bringing him back.

Marner and Nylander would be sacrificial trades, but Marner ensures you're a great team for 82 games and then it's anyone's guess in the playoffs, while Nylander is up and down over 82 but don't seem as burdened in big games as everyone else.

I think the idea is you solve for Matthews and just drag it out long enough that Tavares goes away.

AM dosent want to be here...wishful thinking. These guys are losers and you want them extended? They should all be shipped out. We need a new vision, new coach, new core..enough!

Sorry, just saw what other posters said regarding this. He CAN'T sign before July 1st.

What I am implying is he will wait for his full NMC & end up not signing here. JT did exactly the same thing.

Personally, I feel it doesn't matter who we bring back, who we trade for, whatever is done, as long as Bell and Rogers own MLSE, things WILL NOT change!

As structured, I passionately hate the way they play, the lack of grit, drive, willingness to do what it takes. The me, me, me attitude....I watch and compare to the teams of prior eras and it appals me. Perhaps you're ok with the status quo (you keep bringing that same argument up) , I keep hoping for better. I want a winner not a whiner.

Did JT say it? He just streched the process out & moved on. Let's just call it a hunch....its a huge gamble waiting for that NMC to kick in. Are YOU prepared to take it? Then if he moves on and we're left zero in return ....then what? You shrug your shoulders & say that's life? This is BIG business...it transcends sports. Letting him reach his NMC is a bad/risky decision all around.
Besides, we need change....this core is rotten.

You seem unable to come up with an original thought. Always debunking others' ideas. Matthews did not say he was not signing. I have no proof that he did. He said he would blah, blah, yada ,yada,..fact is July 1st his NMC kicks in and then ?. It is of MY opinion he will not sign.

I thought that he said that he plans on signing with the Leafs, but what else is he going to say and it probably won't happen until July 1st.

I read that as well...but, its a HUGE risk. What if he dosent? Besides, lets be realistic, for what he's getting paid he should carry the team on his back. This past year was disappointing. His attitude, body language and drop in performance don't bode well.
