It’s the only thing that seems to make sense to me turn his salary into 2 players and cap space
Me too.
I know they all didn’t show up in playoffs against Panthers….but unless the guy coming back is McD, Kuch, Rosi, Makar, Drai, Mack or even Hedman. You don’t trade AM and MM before forcing JT out.
If JT kept saying No….then you trade AM and MM
but I don’t think JT will say no unless it looks like a cap dump, he has too much pride to stick around a team who doesn’t want them. Esp in a market like TO. Every time when the Leafs struggle, the medias will be on him like if only he accepted the trade….

Last 2 playoff
Isn’t that interesting like i said our real core group is get better yearly all three captain needs to go even if we lose Robertson and a pic I’m willing to take a loss for serviceable players Tavares is still a good player but he’s hand cuffing is at that price when almost 30 mil is tied up in the other 3

But just let see whats option is if leafs want to move 1 core player

Matthews at 11.6M who was best 5v5 offensive player after mcdavid since hes in the NHL and he still 1 of best 5v5 goal scorer in playoff. Hes in top 10 of most 5v5 goal in playoff since hes in NHL.

Marner : if you watch last 2, he had been leafs best foward ...

Tavares whos overpaid at 11M but with a No movement clause and he scored a lot of important goal last 2... scored to came back gm 5 last year, tied game and gave lead late in 2md gm 6, scored a goal who had been disallowed gm 7. Scored a hat trick gm when leafs just cant lost this game, scored game winning goal gm 6

Nylander who had been nothing else than a pp specialist pretty awful at 5v5 last 2 but his cost is 4M under the rest

I would put everyone on the table and see what comes in. That doesn’t mean you have to trade anyone, but you should see what the interest is and who wants to overpay.
If a deal comes in for one that is just too good to pass up and you think it makes your team better as a whole, regardless of which one, you have to consider it.
If you are offered 2 B prospects for Nylander but get a Hughes,McAvoy, whatever offered for Marner, that makes a big difference.

Is Dubas still currently working or is he at home contemplating his future?

He is still under contract until the end of June and all these so called "testing the waters" type moves to test market value and return would be calls coming from and through the GM's office.

What if Leafs are planing on moving on from Dubas, then would Kyle be allowed to make a big future changing deal without Shanny or Ownership signing off?

Which is why I think we should resign AM, MM and Willy and just endure with JT's contract for 2 years. At this point it's sooner than later.

Retool the bottom, play a different style of hockey that's not super possession based and get players that are willing to get dirty.

That’s the 40 million dollar question.
If Dubas doesn’t return, does Pridham (if GM or interim) share his everything on the table philosophy or will Shanahan tell him just run it back? Nobody knows. Strange way to run an organization.

Glad you posted this. I'm a fan of Nylander but it's amusing how his horrible defensive effort gets a pass while Tavares who's much better all around takes all the flak for his ES game because of his lack of speed.

What if the current GM would prefer to deal Nylander but the next GM prefer to move one of the $11 mil contracts instead?

Until there is clarity of what is happening going forward its hard to do business as usual including putting irons in the fire of potential Leaf offers for current players.

Meanwhile the clock in ticking on pending NMC.

You mean you didn't love Fletcher trading Steen and Colaiacovo for Stempniak before Burke had a chance to consider? :sarcasm:

Exactly and whats matter the most in playoff??? Whats every team who still left, whats the o ly thing every of those 4 team having similar? Effort, they working extremely hard

playoff how hard you will work defensivly... to be in passing lane, block shot, came back as fast possible in D zone, how hard you will work on forecheck and put your opponent under pressure, how hard you will work to drive the net, goes in dirty area... how hard you fighting in 1v1 battle...

Carolina lost 2 huge piece in teravainen and svechnikov and still won, why? Play hard...Tampa won a stanley withkout stamkos and reach stanley cup final without point l, why? working hard.

You can have all the skill of the world, if you dont work in playoff... you will never get good result. Maybe you will still have succes on pp, but thats it...You can have only 1 player whos not ready for team commitment and thats affecting negatively every player on his line and maybe more

In perfect world i would keep him and he will finally understand he need to work harder... but right now the reality is Higher number of nylander playoff game raise= lower his level of commitment is...

Once again that doesn’t tell the whole story yes nylander is the weakest defensively of the four but he’s been improving his game defensively the captain doesnt drive play 5 on 5 and he’s still prone to errors just obviously more defensively sound that being said one is one the incline the other is on the decline even marner who’s all world couldn’t drive play in the playoffs with the captain and getting secondary matchups and I know it doesn’t mean much but he was arguably our best forward game four and five

I mean, Leafs are a competitive team. I rather not blow it up just for the sake of blowing it up. If there's better players available then sure, if not, roll with the same competitive core.
