We've got a bench as quiet as a library, a core that doesn't like to drive the net come the playoffs, a defense that hates a strong forecheck, two injury prone goaltenders, two pending UFA's that need to be signed, a 11 mill 100 pt winger that can't get his shit together in the playoffs and if not traded a no trade clause kicks in........

Change needs to happen, unless MLSE is happy with the (lack of) results.
This core has been given multiple chances to prove their metal and they have done so, year in, year out.
BIG changes need to happen. There can be no sacred cows.

And the multi billion dollar company is waiting on the idiot who built this flawed team to see if he wants to continue leading this charade. You can only get away with this if you have a rich, passionate fan base. Shame on the people who fund these non deserving clowns. Give us an expansion franchise Gary.

It’s pretty wild this management group is waiting around for Dubas… Most people would die to have a job as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yet we’re in a time crunch and waiting for someone who built a team that needs serious changes.

But, they can make him ride the bench..game in & game out. He'll beg for a trade....
Alienation of the team's captain aside, having Tavares not play doesn't sound like much of a recipe for boosting trade interest from other teams.

If the goal was to win cups, Toronto would have done that a long time ago.

This off season, like the previous, will show that winning cups isnt the goal.

The goal is to make money for the owners. You do this by wearing f***ing TikTok logos on your helmet and then try to convince the players that they aren't just stupid pawns in a game to make money for MLSE and the other owners.

You working with human and youre not in a video game, if youre acting with your player without any kind of respect... Do you believe making tavares life pretty miserable to get him out of town will help you to keep key player like Matthews long term or convince player to come playing in Toronto?
well, no pain, no gain.
no guts, no glory!

Imagine the Leafs losing AM34 to a homeless team in a desert
Like like the ring of it, Moses leading his people out of the desert into salvation

I’ve often wondered, could you get a 2nd Toronto expansion team, build it like Vegas/Seattle and get further in the playoffs?
Interesting experiment.
Call the team The Markham Knights.
Be great for everyone, competition breeds success, the Leafs resting on their laurel's would be a thing of the past imo

Very true. Boston/Tampa/Toronto really haven’t had much push in the division.
Florida was up and down, if Detroit/Buffalo/Ottawa ever get on track, competition in the regular season is needed. Make fighting for a regular season spot more like the playoffs.

The Leafs would make a f*** ton of money if they won the Cup lol. Obviously it's a goal.

hometown boys? I see whole bunch of hometown retirees wanna play in Toronto!
Tavares was far from that stage of his career upon signing with the Leafs. Even if the following possibility ends up being highly unlikely, how about a McDavid? A new plan needs to be formulated if said plan is deeply rooted in trying to get a player/captain to waive his negotiated NMC at all costs.

There's pretty much a 0% chance he commits to going there with the way things are looking. The number one argument people made for him leaving was him going home to Arizona. Why would he commit and sign a long term deal there when the team might be gone a year later? Hell, they may not even be there when he's a UFA (if he gets that far).

well, rangers made quick decisions when they wanna part away with Garland, ex-captain Ryan McDonalgh, Do they care about their players feeling? Rumors spread out already regarding Alexi Lafaneer.

Even a #1OA Pick who no shows in the playoffs?
I don't think it is likely at all .. to me it is absolute last place in NHL where Matty would go .. as another poster mentioned Chicago is completely depleted of talent and makes zero sense for Matty to go there and sign .. zero sense

Exactly! Look at all these shots from outside the slot!

Tampa trading away McDonagh? Tampa's current GM neither traded for the player nor did he sign him to his current contract (which included the NTC). McDonagh also is from Minnesota and was not Tampa's captain. Vastly different circumstances and situations involved.

I should probably just halt this bit of diversion here. Cheers!
