Assuming a round 2 loss

Maybe not the entire core, but a major shakeup is needed. I move Marner. Elite regular season player, biggest f***ing p***y on the planet when the playoffs come around. Guy is always terrified on the ice, scared of contact, scared to make a play, complete no show when it matters. Demands 11M, entitled attitude, after every game in his interviews this guy has no accountability. After the Habs series, he said I thought we played great and generated tons of chances. He's the guy I ship out.

The level of entitlement with him is beyond insane, and it kills me to say this. I was a fan of this kid since London, I have an autographed hat of his from a previous playoff series and a jersey, but it is what it is. He doesn't care about winning or competing and he never wants to be held accountable, demands 11M and doesn't show up.

Nylander, despite the blunder in game 2, has shown up to compete in almost every game. I would keep him, a serious conversation needs to be had with Matthews and see where his head is at. If we move on from Marner, very likely Auston wants out too. Can't let him walk, trade him if that's the case and rebuild.

Keefe needs to go, he gets outcoached every single game, his team is never prepared to start a game or period on time.

Imagine we kept Hyman and Kadri and moved Marner instead looool.
Nice plan, I would get rid of prez and Gm too. They kept inept Keefe for multiple seasons.

Now that the league knows that the Coyotes won't be drafting Bedard, they still have a new 16k seat arena about to be built and will need to be filled. They have new financing and so that means the ability to spend. I just wonder if Matthews wouldn't mind playing at home, going head to head with McJeebuzz, Bedard, MacKinnon, getting all the money and zero pressure.

Not going to suggest what the return could be, but be advised they've got a ton of picks, some decent players and some recent high picks ready that now are ready to play.

Also a small note, everyone talks about that NTC about to activate on Matthews, those same clauses are about to activate on both Will and Mitch

Lots of work to do and not a whole bunch of time to do it

I would believe that if its not same old f***ing shit every goddamn year from this guy.
The more he talks, the larger the fanbase that wants him to be the one to go, grows. He comes across as an arrogant, selfish POS. Sorry Mitch go shove your taped hockey stick and right wings up your ass.

It would take a hell of a commitment from their ownership to invest what it would cost to pay him. I doubt they'd be willing to foot that bill.

I could see it if he was working his ass off and producing but he is not.
He is simply delusional and I’m now firmly in the get rid of Marner camp

I hope they can come back but if not the entire management group should be fired the day after they lose so we can get someone in to handle this tough time

The ownership needs to take a good portion of the blame here as well. They let mediocrity linger for too long with this team, I suppose the multiheaded ownership group is like turning the titanic in a snap. I would prefer one owner dedicated to winning and not these corporations that just like to hear the jingle in their pockets. Tanabaum had some degree of integrity but now his son does the speaking.

the 'core 4' isnt our problem, its our soft as fresh pudding Defense, who also happen to be mistake prone, and then add bad coaching to the mix, and we are where we are.

and by bad coaching, what i mean is, you have Austin bloody Matthews, and you should design the offense to give him as many looks, shots, and 1-timers possible, and play him till he drops.
Instead, we have a basket weave offense and nobody is ever in the right spot for a 1-timer because they are too busy skating back and forth to the point it looks like a dance class.
who has the best 1-timers in hockey?
OV
Drais
Pasta
Matthews
etc
etc
...every other team sets up their guy to take that 1-timer as often as possible, and non stop on the PP
How many opportunities has Matthews had this series, or this entire season? ...he had a bunch of 1-timer goals last year, and almost none this year, but, he barely gets set up to take them either. (BAD COACHING)

This. So much this. Some of the times these guys are just lost cause the coaches are telling them weird shit.

And it worked all season long. Until now.

Keefe and his 2 assistants can be fired the second we lose on Wednesday

Matthews has a fragile wrist and Marner aka mitch the b..h has too fragile soul for the playoffs. They need to be traded as jt has ntc while Nylander is the only one with the balls.

Dubas screwed this team up so bad.

He gave big money contracts and didn’t even get term out of them to Marner and Matthews. Now they can’t even be traded for full value and they hold all the power in the future.

He signed Tavares to a buyout proof (essentially) contract with a NMC when he wanted to come to Toronto anyways. He overpaid him to be a 2C after sending away a homegrown 2C for much less money who was younger.

And the icing on the cake is the Matt Murray deal they’re going to have to give picks away to dump.

I wasn’t mad about the dollar value on Marner and Matthews nearly as much as I was that it carried them to UFA in their primes. You never pay top dollar without term. Now the league is full of young players who signed 8x8 or around there to carry them to 30 while these guys hold the teams future ransom.

One final annoyance is Dubas’ total disregard for team toughness and for top guys who go in those dirty areas. He’s got a team full of perimeter players who won’t work to score and rentals from other teams to try and patch the holes. A player like Evander Kane or even Kadri who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty is absolutely what they need. I like ROR but one third line centre isn’t enough to push this core to win.
