LOOOOOOOOOL

I forgot about this classic gem from the season. Our elite players weren’t all that elite in that one. LOL. I guess keefe is an idiot, but he got that one right. Too bad he’s too much of a p***y to stand by ot
And whats weird is our president was a mean talented sob when he played and our coach was a nasty little prick when he played.....something doesnt add up

Dubois has 0 grit he's just a dirty hockey player that's not grit it would be nice to stop confusing the two. He's also going to Montreal and has made that abundantly clear. just deal with it we will part ways with Matthews and not have a 1C again for 12 years like last time, its what everyone here seems to want.
Its kind of like saying you arent happy in your relationship but you dont want to be alone so you'll stay.

The reason not to sign him at all in 2 years is his 5 on 5 quality of play is completely erratic here in 2023 and his skating is awful. We could have another legacy player a la Thornton, Spezza, Giordano, Marleau. But why not just a 20 something prime aged guy with the energy to do the job?
His 5on5 quality of play and skating are erratic against the role and expectations of a 1C. Lowered paid 1/2 goalscoring LW? Still an asset. If he can do a job at an appropriate price point (or less) not bringing him back "just because" is acting like a jilted ex, not rationally. JT would be 35 to start his next contract. Marleau was 38, Thornton 41. Absolutely nothing wrong with Gio and Spezza's time here.

.

While I appreciate anyone trying to apply more advanced statistical analysis to sports, sometimes they can be misleading especially when the absolutes are so low like goals. Quantifying all the subjective and constantly changing environments within a game render most of these UTTERLY useless. Expected goals per game? LMAO.
Bingo.

I would empty to the bare walls. It's time to reinvent the Toronto Maples Leafs. They are getting dangerously close to people wanting a second GTA team. I am leaning that way, the organization is a zombie.
I hear ya .this brand is getting old fast

Imagine a power forward like Tuch on Matthews' wing? One can only dream
Keefe and the soy boy core would ruin him or the Tkachuks or Kane or any other gritty forward because any intensity and give-a-shit is cultured right out of any player that steps into that locker room.

It doesn't matter one bit who you add to the core - Maroon, Perry, Reaves, whoever - their grit will evaporate as soon as the disease enters their body and mind.

Full nuclear teardown is the only fix: Marner, Nylander, Matthews gone and Tavares stripped of the C. No letters at all for anyone until earned as determined by a taskmaster HC.

JT is going nowhere .. he can't play C anymore in NHL either .. he is moving to LW next year for sure .. and he will be ok as a 2nd liner winger for rest of contract

Matty it all comes down to whether he will take a reasonable contract below MAC and McJesus .. it is entirely in his court .. if he won't then he will be traded

Willy and Mitch .. bottom line you only need one 5th wheel winger .. use either/or to go after after another top 2 C, a 1D and a 1G .. you can't have more than 1 close to 10M per scoring winger on CAP .. to me I would move Mitch as he will get more assets #1 and Willy is faster and bigger

No but that player likely didn’t sign there as the biggest UFA and probably wasn’t coming home. Listen anything is possible but I doubt Tavares is moved.

San Jose tried to move a 100 point Karlsson and couldn’t make it happen because of his cap hit. We are stuck with JT.
Tavares for karlsson? sold!

Not really, if you look at it from Matthews' perspective. If he says anything before July 1 he might be traded somewhere he doesn't want to go. After July 1 he calls ALL of the shots.
No he'll be asked where he wants to go and where he'll agree to be extended like MT did last summer. You can't let him do what JT did the Islanders.

The problem with that is Spezza was outskating Tavares when they were both on the team together.
