It's amazing how many guys lose their wheels and mojo when matched up against Danault.

In 2021 he did it to Matthews and then Stone/Pacioretty. (jets and scheifele did it to themselves.)
Last year.

That said a guy like Mcdavid you hope to contain and limit the damage. he is too good to shutdown all series
I don't think Danault has slowed McDavid down. McDavid is still flying out there... some if those shots haven't gone in ... and they will. Then Patrice Bergeron from Alibaba will go back to being that.

Messier won the Conn Smyth over Gretzky during their first cup win.

Malkin also won it over Crosby his first cup win.

When an opponents gameplan is to shut down the best player in the world, #2 guy is often given a huge opportunity to shine and that's what Draisaitl is doing.
Draisaitl like messier is built for playoff hockey. Just a straight large man that takes a boat load to get knocked off the puck. Works better them speed in tight checking hockey. I think la had mcdavid shut down last year 2

I like your analysis.

But McDavid had 4 goals and 10 assists for 14 points in 7 games (+10 if it matters to some) against the Kings last postseason.

No question he’s due to wake up soon. It’s kind of encouraging that they were not far from being up 2-0 with him not scoring, picking up just an assist, and making a costly goof in Game 1.

Thing is he's had some changes but the finish wasn't there, he could have around 3 goals already.

Uhh no. They most certainly did not shut down McDavid.

Sleeping. Mcdavid doesn't even look fast out there. I've noticed Nick Bjugstad more than I've noticed Mcdavid.

Danault's a good player, but he is not the reason Mcdavid doesn't have his wheels right now.
Mcdavid has his wheels its just between him and Hyman they are both trying to skate through the entire team and Kings just collapse with their sticks and wind up causing turnovers. Hyman is better suited for the third line in this series but Woodcroft hasn't come to that realization yet.

After 2 games it is Draisaitl for me. Let's see how it alternates if I do this every ~2-3 games.

I’m not trying to stir the pot here but Draisaitl’s first assist last night was a shot that deflected off a stick, off the end boards, and onto Derek Ryan’s stick, who then flubbed the shot under Koprisalo’s pad. His second assist was a pass in the neutral zone that Evander Kane then skated into the empty net. If anyone is just looking at stats to make judgements about his play, it doesn’t tell the full story.

Draisaitl has been Edmonton’s best player, but he was more dangerous in the game one loss than the game two win in my opinion. I don’t know how the Kings will be able to compete when Edmonton is going 11/7 and plugging Draisaitl and McDavid against their fourth line.

Lol why did you leave out the absolutely undressing before that “deflected shot”. And the fact that he also scored on a great one timer

He was also quite dangerous last game

False. Carey Price did it... the Matthews line had some of the best scoring chance generations in the entire playoffs from just one series... Danault is good, but he wasn't in that series, Price was.

Price was good, but in games 5,6 and 7 in particular Matthews did it more to himself than anyone.

There was zero push from the leafs after going up 3-1. Price was solid, not otherworldly. As I’ve asked others who push that narrative, let’s all look at the entire video package if Price’s first round that year. Solid play. Highway robbery type saves, not as many as people think. Especially in those last 3 games.

I really think Matthews has learned, is learning how to be a more consistent competitor from Marner in particular, who is the lifeline of the team.

I remember watching a 10 min highlight pack from Price that playoffs, 5 mins were Leafs... he played 3 other series. He was their best player BY FAR.

He was most integral in the leaf series, but even still, it wasn’t like a 2003 Giguere performance, or even close to it. Especially after the leaf series.

The keys were swept. I could’ve played in net in that one.

Against Vegas, in the first two games on the road, he was definitely most responsible for taking a split for the Habs, but in the next 4 games, Montreal was the better team.

Against Tampa, he probably played some of the worst hockey of his career.
